Thanks. It was either going to be that picture. An autumnal landscape that is very pretty but seemed the wrong time for it. A bookshelf, but that would have been too obvious. Or a picture of Olaf with the words 'Do you wanna build a meth lab?' but that would have been too me - and the words didn't fit, sadly.
I've been meaning to get an avatar for 7 years now. I just never got around to it. I guess that makes me the laziest WF member.
I see your 'avatar' like one of those wind-direction thingies you'd find on the roof of old barns. Your arrow is telling us that the wind is going...that a way!
You wear a suite when you teach? Wow, at least there's no question who's the ultimate authority in the classroom, then. Come to think of it, the British profs (the men) at my uni also often wear suits. Not ties, though, 'cause that'd be too dressy here. Americans are more relaxed (jumpers and cottony pants, mostly) and Finns are the least mindful of their dress code.
Cultural differences are always fascinating. Here it's pretty much required for men to wear suits if they are teaching in schools, or at least it was in the schools I've taught at. In universities and some other schools (like private schools) it's much more relaxed. When I do my private teaching, though I just wear whatever I feel like.
You wear suits in, like... public schools? Like grammar school, upper secondary etc. I thought it was a uni thing. I wore stuff like Converse and band shirts when I was subbing in high schools. It's a lot more relaxed there than when teaching adults.
Yip, especially in public schools. It's to set a good example for all the learners, regardless of their socio-economic place. I've taught in both an academy (which did my head in) and a secondary comprehensive school and both times had to wear a suit. And I'm envious of the casualness! I have it in private teaching, the ability to wear what I like, and when teaching functional skills I appeared in a suit to the college on my first day and was told by my mentor 'You know, you don't have to dress like an asshole here. The kids don't respect it, and it's just more faffing for you'. Safe to say, I liked that guy a lot. Go, Katie Perry wardrobe malfunction! Come on, you know some people watched on the chance they could see that.
But if a female popstar flashes a tit or something, doesn't the wardrobe actually serve its function? You get more coverage on tabloids and more people show interest in you -> more money. It's kind of unfair male popstars can't take advantage of this 'cause their wardrobes aren't that hazardously put together. Maybe if they forgot to zip up their jeans or something, and the pants fell off during a dance routine.
What?! :O Mr Bringing Sexy Back? I'm guessing at least two more men than that would tune in just to compare junk-sizes.
Well, yeah in the real world. Just making light of the well-known, undisputed fact that no one cares when men get nekkid, but when it's a woman, especially a famous one, the entire world grinds to a halt.
Haha, I know. It's true though. A guy gets down to his underwear on stage, no one cares - women do it, and everyone loses their minds. I think it's because women's bodies are works of art, while men's bodies seem to have been made on God's off-day.
Meh, in truth, I totally disagree, but I guess I wouldn't be married to a man if that wasn't the case.
@Wreybies Yes, they are! I just noticed on the paper there's a Tom of Finland exhibition in Helsinki, detailing both the life and the art of Touko Laaksonen. Should be plenty of dude butts there.
I think it's so awesome that you guys get to claim him as an icon of subculture. I mean, only Finland could pull off trolling Russia by sending them post with official Tom of Finland leather-daddy stamps issued by the Finnish government. That is some epic shit right there.
That was some epic trollage, yeah . Didn't expect we'd have the guts 'cause usually we're extra cautious when dealing with Putinland...
And I saw the packages, at least one of them. They used as many stamps as they could. It was like "Each of these stamps represents a fuck we don't give concerning your draconian regime."
