Why? If you're in love, it's an excuse to celebrate that love. If you're not in love, you don't even notice it. All upside, no downside.
Gigiiiiii! Well, I use it as an excuse to bake, so I'm fine with it. Just this year I unexpectedly had a guy confess his feelings to me the day before, and I unfortunately had to disappoint him and tell him I didn't return his sentiment.
It wasn't so bad. I found it a great excuse to drink port and watch horror films. ... oh god I'm lonely.
I'm a glass half full guy. If I'm not currently in love, it's a time to remember past loves and appreciate them. When I am in love, it's a good excuse to pull out all the stops and share that love. One year, I crossed the country to celebrate Valentine's Week with an amazing woman, and each day gave a gift signifying a different aspect of our relationship. Like anything, it's what you make it.
I don’t really think congratulations are in order, I didn’t enjoy doing that. In fact, it just feels like you’re telling someone they’re not quite good enough, even when that really isn’t the case- I like the guy as a friend, I just don’t feel any kind of attraction besides that. But anyway, I am super picky and already know I’m just going to end up living with ten cats or something. Whoo.
it'll be good for him. that sort of thing puts hair on your chest. or, you could always wait until the next day...
Are you sure he didn't try to manipulate you into giving him a chance by doing that just before the effing Valentine's Day?? Maybe it was a coincidence, but it's still pretty sucky -- to both of you.
That's a good point. I mean, respect to him for at least trying, but it seems like the sort of thing designed to sway you.
LEO TOLSTOY: (Levin discusses proposing to Kitty) " ‘Why should you think that?’ said Stepan Arkadyevitch, smiling at his excitement. ‘It seems so to me sometimes. That will be awful for me, and for her too.’ ‘Oh, well, anyway there’s nothing awful in it for a girl. Every girl’s proud of an offer.’ "
Off topic, but I can't remember the context of this conversation. Why did Levin think it'd be awful? I remember he was into farming and stuff, and to be honest, largely skipped some of his chapters.
Yeah, I would never do that. I'm not that horrible. Yeah, technically I only wrote him yesterday, so I guess that made it slightly better... Well, he told me in a later message that when he gave the letter to my sister, he was completely oblivious to it being Valentine's day that weekend. So yeah, I'm just gonna believe him on that. And anyway, Valentine's day or not, it wouldn't have changed my answer. But yeah, it's a sucky business. What I thought was worse, was that one of his friends apparently thought I was just playing 'hard to get'. That bothers me because I make it a point to never play around with a guy's feelings, and this guy knew pretty much from the moment we met that I was not interested in a relationship- and I don't feel like I was acting any differently. But yeah, I'm kind of paranoid about that kind of stuff, because I've been called a flirt in the past, and that's really not who I want to be.
You skipped chapters of Tolstoy???????????! Guess what? I skipped the whole second half. He wanted to propose to Kitty and he was afraid she'd say no. She did say no but I guess later she said yes? And then they went farming together and lived happily ever after. The train can not come too soon in that story.
This for some reason has got me thinking I wonder how some of us on the forum might actually get along if we met in person.
