Weirdest places you have put your story ideas...

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Link the Writer, Jul 18, 2011.

I've read about writers that put their story ideas on walls, and I often thought about taking an expo dry-erase marker and writing out story ideas/thoughts on the bathroom mirror while I brainstorm. (I'd erase it after I'm done, of course.)

So, what is the weirdest place you've put your story ideas? If you can also remember how others responded, share.

A while back I really struggled with the perfect name for my character. It had been going on for ages. Then one day it comes to me without warning, and I have nothing to write on or with. I'm terrified I will forget it. What do I do? Carve it into the table with my fingernail of course.

And this might not be that weird, but I often write ideas on my arm. It's not rare for me to have loads of random words, that totally makes sense to me, up my left arm.

^Haha, I have a friend who writes on her left arm too. Doesn't it hurt?

My place isn't really weird, but when I was going into work the other day, I suddenly had this idea for a specific detail in my story. Unfortunatly, I hadn't remembered to bring an index card and a pen, so I wrote out my idea on a notepad on my Tracphone.

The only weird place I could think up of is on the back of an old math worksheet. It was a long time ago and I can't remember what I put down, but that's what happened. :p

Everyone says they write about their ideas on their arm. But what about jeans? A few of my pair of jeans are now littered with a story board on them.

I once wrote three paragraphs on my forearms. It went over well in school.

Now I make sure I have a notebook or sticky note somewhere close.

When I have older pairs of jeans, I take a Sharpie to them. Makes them look pretty cool, too.

I never go back to it afterwards. I like to keep my ideas where I can see them, on my person or on stuff I own.

I once got caught up out of town stuck in traffic with out pen/paper, or my tape recorder...
Oh what does one do in cases like this?
I exit the car and start knocking on random ppls windows asking for a pen and paper anything. A lady was kind enough to give me her empty dentyne gum box which I tore open and scribbled the thoughts down.
Sometimes I love Gridlock in LA.

I've written story ideas on the back of my college books.

I remember once I found a map of the globe in my geology book and wrote a short sci-fi idea in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Yah. XD I pretty much scratched out the real-world names and replaced them with my own, scratched out borders.

Like I drew a circle around Canada and wrote, "Hmmm...Serbian Empire? Questions: Why and how could Serbia form its own empire? What relation does Serbia have with Russia and how would this affect the world at large?"

I pay too much for my jeans. I could probably write on my shoes though. Bought three pairs of these fabric shoes(?) for 3 bucks a pair. I wrote Daffodils by William Wordsworth on them. I wrote the four verses divided on two pairs, so the third one has nothing on it yet. Could be used for note-taking.

Darn, now you make me feel... normal. I'm not used to it, and I don't like it. :D

My weirdest place was inside a roleplaying game on my computer. I forgot which one, but it doesn't matter. The game had a notepad where we could write down small notes and stuff (excellent feature, by the way. Very handy.) I was typing in a biography for my character in the notepad (I know... geeky), but the bio started turning into a story on it's own. I never actually wrote the story, but the notes were done from start to finish.
