    Well, here I am!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by fantasywriter, Jul 14, 2008.

After looking over the site for only a few minutes I decided to join. I'll go by fantasywriter on this forum, I'm 14 years old, and I love to write. My dream is to someday become a well-known, published author, but currently I enjoy writing short stories and song lyrics for my band. I also love to read (fantasy mostly). My favorite book series is the Dragonlance Series, and I hope some of you have heard of it. I'm also into drawing, and find myself often sketching pictures of my favorite book characters, or characters from my short stories.

Well, that's me, and I hope I'll be able to meet a few friends here.

Hello Fantasy Writer, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Hello and welcome.

I LOVE fantasy also. Most of my mini library collection is fantasy. Hope to see you around, and share some books to read!

Hey, I haven't really been into reading much but I used to write. It's been two years but since my gf is going 4 hours away for college and I'll only get to see her every other weekend I'm probably going to get back into it... Anyway, I love writing fantasy and was wondering if you could post a few suggestions of books to read to help me improve a bit.

Well, I'd definately recommend the Dragonlance series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman! They're the best.

Thanks. I'll try to check it out before the next eragon book comes out. Anyway, you cannot post a story here without previously reviewing (two other stories?) Well, is there something specific you do to post a review or simply like a regular post?

It's just like a regular post. All you do is fix any grammatical errors, and make comments and such. If you need help getting started, I would recommend you read other reviews before posting your own.

Also, if you have any questions on Dragonlance, I'm free! :-D
