WF Book Club Nominations for July

We'll be continuing the WF Book Club in July, so please post nominations here. After I get about 10 books, I'll make a poll so that you can vote for the book you want to read most. Just in case there aren't enough nominations, I'll take a few of the nominations from last time.

I know it kinda fizzled after the initial thread got deleted, but is anyone else still keen to try reading and discussing/analysing a short story or two?

 

Yes, depending on what's chosen, though I have no suggestions at present myself.

 

I don't mind. I actually would really love if this was extended to published essays too.

 

I'm definitely interested. Are you thinking of doing it at the same time as the Book Club, or do you want to alternate between the two (read a book one month, a few stories the next, etc.)?

 

Maybe we could pick both a novel and a couple of short stories, then spend one month on the stories, so that people have time to have read the novel to discuss that in the next month (so, pick some stories for July, and a novel for August, so that people can read during July).

 

That's not a bad idea. What does everyone else think?

 

For the novel, I'd like to recommend Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell.

 

I second Winter's Bone.

 

Anyone else have any other recommendations? I'll leave this thread open for a few more days and then set up a poll.

Also, I like arron's suggestion of reading and discussing short stories next month (July) and then discussing the novel in August, after people have gotten a chance to read it. What has happened in the past is that some people don't finish the book, which makes it hard to discuss it with others. Doing it this way will hopefully allow everyone to finish reading the book by August.
