Aargh. I must leave this thread NOW. I'm getting hungry, and it's nearly midnight. Not time to be gnawing on brats.

  8. I tried that with fresh Szechuan peppers once.

It ended about as you'd expect.

I am really curious about your use of ` instead of '

    Is the button wonky?

  12. There's a...sauce? Topping? Something like that here that people make in the home, basically you get the fresh szechuan peppercorns (which should be available soon) and marinate them in soy sauce, adding other stuff to taste (garlic I think, maybe hot peppers as the szechuan just provides the "hum" and some saltiness). The vodka wasn't, as I'd hoped, like a Chinese version of Absolut Peppar, more of a salty mess. Oh well.

You guys are making me want cream-filled doughnuts now. Even better, a chocolate eclair...

Cooking tonight: Probably salad, because I had a fucktonne of chocolate today.

ETA: Make that half a turkey sub from Subway. I'm starving.

  14. Mrs. A is out of town today for a ceremony related to her late mother, so...

I may eat something from the convenient store!

Mind you, this isn't the helpless married man who doesn't know how to cook for himself, this is the guy who loves to cook but is rarely allowed the chance to eat pure garbage.

Yeah, it's gonna be pizza niku-man I think (steamed buns)

I love making those kind of drinks - I am more of a beer drinker than fruity gins and vodkas but great things to bring out at dinner parties etc. I have managed to get a cycle of making "next year's" sloe gin "this year" - I might try to make an extra lot this year and increase the period to two years, but they certainly benefit from being tucked away.

the best I ever made was a white rum flavoured with white damsons - we have a tree in the local woods but it is a struggle to get the fruit before the birds or jam-makers clear the tree (c:

Dinner last night was a pork pie (well, half a pork pie washed down with a bottle of beer).

One simply doesn't pass close to Denby Dale -- home of the world breaking Denby Dale pie -- without visiting David Gawthorpe the butcher for a pork pie.

It is one of the courses of my death-row meal...

A friend of mine had to drink half a dozen shots of chilli vodka after losing at a game of "Mexicano" in Chamonix.

For him it ended with running, screaming, out into the snow. He wasn't seen again that evening.

This is a betrayal of my mother's Southern roots, but I can't stand catfish. You know how occasionally trout can be just a tad too "trouty"? Catfish has a stronger gamey sort of funk. I'm told it's bred to be milder than it used to be, and I try a bite occasionally when a friend orders it to see if my tastes have changed, but nope. I'll stick to trout.

ETA: Dinner tonight was the other half of the turkey sub I ordered yesterday and a handful of raw baby carrots and radishes. (Let us all take a moment to praise the radish. Love 'em!)

  18. Made a sliced pork sandwich, but oversalted it whilst cooking.

    Gaak.

    Tuna Pasta (with salmon)

This would be perfect to serve if I had my own pasta bar / all you can eat buffet/pasta bar that serves food I make from Chinese to Italian to English Breakfast to sloppy joe, because, my Tuna Pasta (with salmon) I made tonight, made me crave a Coca-Cola.
I washed it down with a Coca-Cola, felt right.

    This would be perfect.

    Tastes better than it looks.

I have left overs in the fridge though, I am stuffed.

Honey and garlic chicken thighs cooked in my new pressure cooker. The boyfriend was impressed with how the meat came out (no need for a fork).

Soft tacos, from the recipe we used at the amusement park where I worked one summer as a teenager.

Avocado deviled eggs. The beet dye turned for some reason, so they came out a bit more sickly brown than purple red, but they still taste pretty decent.

Oooooh, that sounds good! Beets and avocados are two of my favorites. Might that be a recipe you'd be willing to share, Dap?
