No marzipan there either (I do not like almonds, bleurgh). Just coloured chocolates with a truffly centre. If they have them again this year, I may send some to CT.
We're having the closest thing to Sunday Roast I've ever had in my entire life - it's made out of quorn. Also trying cranberry sauce for the first time! We think cranberry sauce and lingonberry jam are close enough to replace each other and testing the theory today. I'm having Lost cooking, though. I'll be cooking all next week when he's a work, so I'm slacking off today.
Not a huge fan of cranberry sauce, especially not the canned stuff. Cranberry relish on the other hand; that's another story.
Haven't been doing much cooking lately with all the day job drama/stress, but today is Easter so I'm taking the time to make a feast! Sous vide rack of lamb, minted pea puree and glazed carrots, with a homemade coconut cream pie for dessert.
I love living in Scotland, don't get me wrong. But at Easter I really miss the special Easter candy I used to get back home in the USA. Fruit-nut egg. Speckled crunch malted-chocolate eggs. Those marshmallow eggs covered in a candy coating. Jelly beans. Marshmallow chickens. Funny that I don't really associate Easter with a lot of chocolate. Over here it's ALL chocolate. I mean I like chocolate ...but....
Aw, I'm sorry you're missing your faves, Jan. If I could instantly zap you some, I would. I've never had a fruit-nut egg, although it looks tasty. Confession: I'm not religious at all and consider Easter to be the Chocolate Day. Well that, and Spring renewal and all, but, who are we kidding? It's Chocolate Day!!!! ETA: Later I'll be making chocolate bunnies topped with Cadbury Caramel Eggs, garnished with Russell Stover Chocolate Coconut Nests ham with pineapple and baked yams.
Going to a diner part tonight in a bit but still made a small meal just for me and mother earlier in the evening. Pork loin, yams, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, and cranberries. We also split a beer. Nether of us are drinkers....at all..but it was nice.
We’re just doing our standing Sunday night fare, NY strip steaks with fries and a six cheese mac & cheese. Although, I did do french toast with scrambled eggs and thick cut pepper corn bacon for breakfast.
Yaknow... last time I checked, the US postal service was able to get things to Scotland. UPS, FedEx, and DHL too. Maybe if someone gave us enough of a heads up some kind soul might send some delicacies abroad to help salve the homesickness.
'Tis true! Someone might! Easter candy usually comes out the day after Valentine's day, for consideration for 2020...
OMG, L.K., that pie looks like exactly what I picture when I think of the perfect coconut cream pie! Yum!
I used this recipe and it was freaking perfect! https://www.momontimeout.com/best-coconut-cream-pie-recipe/
A lovely thought, BUT the few times somebody sent me candy from the USA, it arrived in a huge wad of gunk. (Candy canes, maple sugar, etc.) I don't know where the postal service stores the packages, but it was inedible. Sugar doesn't travel well, I'm afraid. Ach well, I'll live. Probably longer if I don't eat Easter candy.
Thank you for sharing that! Coconut milk, half and half, whipping cream...yup, that'd do it. I was having a look around that blog, and her carrot cake is nearly identical to my family's. It's fantastic: https://www.momontimeout.com/to-die-for-carrot-cake-recipe/
Brought home bags of left overs from the dinner party last night. Actually quite a bit of food stacked up in the fridge. Will probably be eating the left overs through out the day. Got some ham and kabawsi for an omelet.
A mix of vegetables with some spices. I'll put some parmesan afterwards, and probably two scrambled eggs beside them.
