Funny you mention the hi/lo. How else are you going to get $20 for a side dish if you don't pair something highly coveted with something that is accessible to everyone? Lob macs are as American as apple pie now. Living next to the ocean doesn't hurt either. Oh, yeah. Haha. Like death and taxes. Servers are like puppies: they need discipline, exercise, and affection... in that order. Good for you telling them to fuck off. Help me clean my station and then I'll make you a sandwich.
In the spirit of casseroles, yes. If you can throw it in a dish and bake it indescribably, it's spiritualy a casserole. Casseroles are defined more by the vessel that creates them than their actual contents.
Sariyah the lovely old Muslim lady three doors down makes this amazing curry every Monday. Yesterday I bumped into Abdul who came into my garden to have a peek at my progress, so I mentioned it to him that whatever it is that his wife cooks on a Monday smells absolutely awesome. So he disappeared and came back 5 minutes later with an old glass jar of authentic middle eastern spices. Gave me some insider tips, admired my garden some more and left. Today, is the day where I put these bad boy Arabic spices to the test.
Tonights dinner with the afore mentioned badboy spice from the middle east. When I closed my eyes and inhaled the smell of the cooking I was immediately surrounded by merchants selling the finest rugs and incense. Beautiful.
That looks remarkably similar to what I made last night. Let's see...clearly mushrooms, tomato, and pineapple. What else is in there? I made homemade barbeque sauce, but then it turned out I had peaches I needed to get rid of, and no ketchup. So I cooked down the peach flesh with tomatoes and pineapple before adding spices and soy sauce. I dare say it was delicious, except it didn't thicken as well as usual. Seriously, peaches make really good sauce.
omg I had no idea the picture was that big lemme adjust @GraceLikePain It is, a handful of chicken strips ( despite being Pescatarian ) Italian Tomato sauce. Red and Yellow Peppers, red onion, Mushroom and some herbs mixed in. With the amazing authentic Spices. No Pineapple though. For some reason I can only drink fruits not eat them.
That's fair. Pineapple is really only edible for me in sauce form. It's very thick and sour. Thanks, I want to eat that dish now. It's making me hungry just to think about it.
It's a good dish. Make the mixed herbs Italian. I've no idea what the spices are, Sariyah just gave me that mystical and knowing look that only an Arab woman can give. So I can't help you there but the smell, offfft, its something else.
Salad tonight again, this time not with butternut squash. Just zucchini and carrot and red cabbage with some balsamic dressing of sorts. After a run.
Turkey is a wonderful place and the Turks are, in general, a very friendly and hospitable people. I'm not a big fan of the direction their current leadership is heading but I'd still go visit in a heartbeat if funds and the global health situation permitted.
I'm dying to go to Cappadocia and Pamukkale and will do damn it! Somehow... It's so near it's irking me. As for the eating stuff, yesterday to today's menu: Coffee, rum, ham, ham, rum, rum, sandwich, sandwich, rum, ham, ham, rum, coffee (now). I think I oughta cook something today, but don't know what. My appetite is slowly diminishing. Something simple, tasty and fresh, but with some protein source as well. Hm...
I've never been to Pamukkale, heard rumors that the terraces are all filthy from too many tourists and that the water supply got cut off accidentally when they built a hotel too near, but Cappadocia rocks! If you've got the inclination, there are a couple places there that offer quad-bike tours. I was last there in 2004 or so so I can't speak to the prices now, but a three hour guided tour for two people was under a hundred bucks back then. Little off the backpacker price range, but well within the honeymoon budget.
All I have to do is reheat the spaghetti from the fridge, but I ain't gonna. I know I need to eat something but... not hungry or, might be somewhat hungry, but not in the mood to eat about it. I mean , you could bring a pizza to my face and I'd be like: "Meeeew...". Does anyone gets this from time to time?
