Been rocking a lot of turkey BLTs with the Thanksgiving leftovers. Kind of want to add that turkey is super-overrated. I mean, it's not bad, but it's a giant mound of relatively non-tasty meat. Mom cancelled the big gathering due to Covid, so Mrs. Potvin made out own turkey and fixings. Never again. Four fucking hours, and what in the hell am I supposed to do with the leftover 10.3# of meat? Already made the soup, three quart containers of dog food, and like 12 sandwiches.
Brine it over night and use a fryer. Only a couple hours of work spread across a couple days and you get a sweet, flavorful turkey with a delicious crunchy skin. Makes for a good meat in soups as a left over.
Yeah, I brined the shit out of it. Added bayleafs, juniper berries, apple cider vinegar. Rubbed and stuffed it with enough herb butter to kill a horse. Ain't saying it wasn't delicious, but still boring for two people. And depressing as fuck to be without family. I'm doing a baked rigatoni next year if this shit continues. Thinking of making meatballs and sauce on Sunday... 4# of the former and 8 cans worth of the latter. Quart and freeze in two meatball, one sausage portions... usually yields about 8 servings or so.
I invited all the discarded military families, so we had a grand old party over at my place haha. At least it burned through left overs. Even though the ham wasnt ready until late...
I envy you. RI is burning with Covid again, so no festivities here. And with me working with the public and my wife being a nurse, we're damn near radioactive to civilians.
I haven't had sourdough bread in decades. Despite the supposed extra time at home, I'm too busy to mess around making it myself and my hosts consider Wonderbread to be tough, dry, and overly flavored. Shokupan in the toaster oven it is.
Mrs. A and I are having the hard talk about whether to get a turkey for ChristmasGiving with her dad and brother. The virus situation isn't good here, but... well, too many details. And I'm poor this year and a 10lb turkey runs something like $60-80 bucks.
Anejo, Mezcal, Cocci rosa, fresh lemon and grapefruit juices smoked with rosemary and applewood chips. That's a drink.
Just spaghetti and cheese for one since I had to have my darling, old dog put to sleep on friday. I missing cooking for her but more than anything I hate the silence...all animal lovers worst nightmare, having to say good bye to their best friend. But a lot of people loved her and cried when I told them - even my vet cried. She was adored, worshipped and spoilt rotten.
Sorry for your loss. I lost my cat a while ago and still miss her; a good pet is a reals companion. I have commented before on how I would have happily joined your dog at the trough, and ironically I cooked beef-cheeks today which used to be something that the butcher virtually gave you "for the dog", but has now become a bit of a delicacy! Took three and a half hours to cook, but worth the wait.
Thank you and sorry to hear about your kitty. It broke my hear losing her as she'd been with me 18 years and been so loyal and devoted. You never seem to get over losing them because they are family.
I am so sorry for your loss - we had to put our 13 year old kitty Buttons to sleep at the end of May (because F*UCK 2020) due to kidney failure, and it was so tough. Sending you love and sympathy from a fellow pet parent.
Bless you and thank you. Yup 2020 has been a shitty year and not just with co-vid it seems. Sorry to hear about Buttons (that's a great name by the way)
I know what's meant when a dish includes things like "wilted arugula," but from a marketing standpoint it always sounds like something you left in the vegetable drawer too long.
Im tired of scrounging for food. Got off work at 8 and am now marinating chicken to put in the oven. Late meal it is!!
Chicken rice soup, homemade. I cut (boneless) chicken thighs into squares. Potatoes, celery, carrots, with some vegetable broth. Made enough for two days worth of dinner, because I like to make food last.
Love soup season. I made a courgette soup yesterday, unfortunately the local shop only had "low fat" creme-fraiche so it has kind of curdled and will go down the toilet. I also made a huge shepherd's pie which is just divine so will have to save a portion for the gods...certainly filled no.1 son and no.1 daughter-in-law up after a long journey - perfect comfort food (c:
