Tonight I'm going to try making meatballs in the sous vide. As Italian as I am, I've always struggled to make meatballs as good as my grandpa's, and unfortunately he passed away before giving anyone the recipe. While for sure they weren't sous vid'd, they were so juicy and tender I really think sous vide might give me a similar texture. I'll put them in a pot of homemade marinara sauce and serve them with a mix of spaghetti and zoodles.
I'll be making a baked ziti tonight, complete with a home made tomato sauce. This is why people pray; if I can't do it well, at least let it be edible. I spent a lot of money on the ingredients.
A ziti? How does that translate. I'm salivating. Dominoes for me, of course it was disgusting. Although, now in my twiglit years I don't even have to choose for myself, just: 'One Delicatto, please, and one bloke pizza number two, huh huh, pepperoni, meat meat, zzzzzzz zzzz.'
Everything fresh, organic, and artisan. No ragu in this. I did the sauce from scratch, puree'd the tomatoes myself. The pasta was made today, and the sausage was made Friday, and it came out fantastic. No leftovers tonight.
Home made pizza. And I'm alone tonight, so I get to make it the way I like with no one complaining about there being weird herbs and spices in the crust.
I'm debating whether I have the energy to make pizza, the energy to go nacho chips and make a Nachos Bell Grande (home edition), or just the energy to order Dominos. Side note, I feel like buying a plastic model tank or APC and decorating it in Dominos Pizza Delivery colors, but that's neither here nor there.
Chicken curry with a lot of vegetables, no rice, I guestimated at 350 calories but probably less. Breakfast varies. Coffee with almond milk and agave, always. Usually the highest protein Greek yogurt I can find, and I add almonds and gogi berries or blueberries. Sometimes I'll do walnuts instead to mix things up. If I'm not having bread later in the day, two slices of toast with Irish butter, or one slice of avocado toast with sea salt and pepper. If it's cold that week, I make a batch of grits or steel cut oats to nuke, and I make some sort of topping. (This week it's grits with cranberry cinnamon compote.) I hate eggs but need protein in the morning, so more often than not it's the Greek yogurt, but I get bored with it, so that's when the carby stuff comes in...maybe twice a week? And, full disclosure, on those mornings when I just can't? A handful of Popcornopolis Caramel corn with a small handful of almonds thrown in to nibble at my desk. Seriously. Popcornopolis Caramel corn is 130 calories per ounce, and it's a whole grain, so there are far worse things (many of which are advertised as breakfast). Or another thing I do is, if I'm craving desserts like mad, I'll have it for breakfast to get the calories out of the way and adjust from there.
That'd do it. The other night I was going to make homemade pizza, but it would have been like $25-$30 for ingredients because the pantry and fridge were empty, so I made filet mignon for less. Glad your pasta came out well!
@matwoolf, http://www.recipeking.co.nz/9378-recipe-jackie-kennedys-beef-stroganoff.html Attention @matwoolf, the link I gave you to the stroganoff had incorrect roux measurements!!! See corrected link above! ^^^^^ You want this one, from A Treasury of White House Cooking. Also, we use the tomato paste option.
I don't eat breakfast, and if I do I usually eat it late enough that I'm not hungry for lunch. Lunch during the week is either a frozen dinner like Lean Cusine or leftovers. I prefer to consume most of my calories at dinner - it's definitely the biggest meal of the day for me.
I just went to Whole Foods for the first time. I feel like a lot of my posts on this thread going forward will include ingredients purchased at Whole Foods.
Roast lamb, roast potatoes, buttered parsnips, cabbage, gravy, redcurrant, mint sauce, Bisto gravy and wine. ... Later, after I washed up everything, my sous wife made an 'Eton Mess,' she called it, single cream, raspberries & meringue, in a pint glass, beautiful. Cheese at 12.30, I think, then only Radio 5 Live, and on...
fry up tonight bacon, eggs, beans and mushrooms, and a sticky toffee pudding with extra thick double cream for dessert I can feel my arteries hardening
@Mousse that is shit, packet of bacon & plastic pudding? Sort it out, bake bread or do that Japanese crap they all adore. You're now bottom place, almost off the thread. ...sorry.
I think you deserve a more uplifting engagement on a Sunday night, what with your work in the morning. And bacon's out of fashion, those potassium nitrate granules in your teeth, the botulism, cancer diet. Tho' I'd kill for posho, rustic sausages. They don't sell them in the North of England, an identity thing. Also 98% of bread here is pre-sliced, and also nobody likes me, yet - in supermarkets I am completely ignored/ checkout glacial as soon as I open my speech :/
Sous Vide is a little passe on the scene, ach. Most of us are now on to insects and hornets, locust...
I did a chintzy beef steak and bell pepper wrap. If I got the math right it should have been just a bit over 350 calories. It was a little light on substance, but it was tasty and colorful. I used red, green and yellow bell peppers.
I actually ate proper food today. Have mainly eaten fruit and cheap noodles since Wednesday, so I guess it was well needed. Mushroom and paprika pizza. Homemade.
