I just finished a book of poetry in translation called I Don't Believe In Ghosts, by Moikom Zeqo (Albanian). I've been avoiding Bukowsky's Hot Water Music... a friend let me borrow it, and so far the book and I have not been getting along.

Just finished C J Sansom's Dissolution. An absolutely wonderful sense of time and place and pretty good characterisation, well-paced and gripping, so very well written in those regards. I felt it fell down a bit as a murder mystery because he made it blindingly obvious who he didn't want us to suspect, which is a complete giveaway for anybody familiar with the genre!

Helliconia, please end. I've got through 1,215 pages of you and it feels like you're never going to finish, even though I only have 90 pages left.

In the mood for something light-hearted. After mentioning it here the other day...

Been dipping into The Jeeves Omnibus 3.

    Never lets you down.

Currently listening to an amazing audio book called The Essence of Success by Earl Nightingale. I found out about the book from some youtube vid someone posted which contained an excerpt of the book. Not meaning to extrude hyperbole this early in the a.m., but I think this book could be life changing for me if I could apply even a small part of the wisdom the writer provides as he explains how to be a success (in the best sense of the word) in all areas of your life.

Well, now that I'm finally done reading all of my summer assignments (papers still to write...), I've just picked up a few interesting books from the library. One of them I've read before, The Dark Lord of Derkholm by Dianna Wynne Jones. I'd buy this book myself if I could find a copy, but it's an older piece. The other ones, a non-fiction entitled What Technology Wants by Kevin Kelly, and The Alchemist by Michael Scott, all look interesting, but I'm using them as a reward for finishing the essays. Anyone read any of these before?

I'm reading The Forest Dwellers by Judith Arnopp.

'When Aelf and leo encounter a trio of normans molesting Alys, a forest girl fairer than any they have ever seen, they stop the attack the only way they can....Violently. The Resulting social upheaveal ends only with the death of a king.'

Really really good. Its a historical fiction set in England sometime after 1066.

I may be biased, but shes had many good reviews by people not related to her. Its only a matter of time until she surpasses Mr. Bernard Cornwell. On a side note, i cant wait for his latest Uthred book to come out. Im all excited.

Finished Brave New World some time ago. Lately I've been doing other things, mostly relaxing because after a lot of personal things my nerves are shot, but I've been reading a canto of The Divine Comedy a day recently and I am greatly enjoying it. So far I'm up to the outer circles of Hell.

Ok, I've given up on Game of Thrones, because the writing is insufferably bad. I passed it on to my daughter (studying English Literature at university) and she too has given up on it because the writing is insufferably bad.

Reading the Da Vinci Code. The plot is good, not particularly loving the execution though. I will read through and see how it goes.

That's cool about your mom being a writer! My aunt is a writer. She writes horror novels and scifi type stuff, or romance novels that include horror/scifi elements.

I'm currently reading "The Book Thief." I've just started. That and the second Hunger Games book.

I'm currently reading Wonder Woman by S.D. Perry and Britta Dennison. It's actually pretty good so far. :) The annoying thing is it was adapted from a screenplay tha apparently got cancelled. Sigh... it would have been sweet with a Wonder Woman movie. Especially as the new tv-series got cancelled.

Finished The Wrong Boy by Willy Russel the other day. It's fantastic; a weird, very unfortunate boy's life story told through letters to his favourite singer. It's moving, tragic and hilarious all at the same time.

I'm at my boyfriend's house and bookless now...

Machine Man by Max Barry. It's decent, though the main character seems loosely defined sometimes.

Finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yesterday, so now I'm reading Animal Farm for school.
    So far, it's decent.

I looked this book up and it looked really interesting, but my library surprisingly doesn't have it, and on amazon, it appears that it's imported from the UK. Not sure why it's not sold in the US, esp. since it looks really popular in the UK with something like 50 or 60 reviews on amazon. Anyway, I bought it used for 4 bucks.
