Lucifer's Hammer has one of my favorite examples of an ambiguous description. Late in the book, there is a gun battle taking place (I'll omit other details so as not to introduce a spoiler). Niven writes about a bullet "passing through the space where her head had been a moment before..." Imagine my surprise a number of pages later when that character is taking part in a conversation. It wasn't at all clear from the writing that she had actually fortuitously moved out of the way just in time! So even a great writer like Larry Niven (or Pournelle, but I think it was probably Niven at the keyboard for that part) can drop the ball. The rest of us shouldn't feel too bad when we leave a glaring ambiguity or two.
The Secret of Excalibur by Andy McDermott. Love it! Don't know what i'm going to read until the next one comes out in May...
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon I've already read it but I wanted to read it again.
I just finished Lie Down With the Devil, by Linda Barnes, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy mystery novels, and especially if you have read earlier books in the Carlotta Carlyle series. It may be her best one yet. I am just starting Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card.
A good book; one of the few really prime examples of good science fiction out there these days. Reminded me a little of the Martian Chronicles by Bradbury, actually. I'm reading "the Agile Gene", in non-fiction, and I've been digging for a good new fiction book for a while- last good one I read was "Altered Carbon", which I highly recommend, especially if you like tight, gritty dystopian cyber-punk rife with sex and violence. Hard to find anything decent at my library and I lack the funds for a Barnes and Nobles run. Guess I better stick to comics.
Finished: The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly (4.5 out of 5 stars) Starting: Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
Almost finished The Da Vinci Code (wanted to see what all the controversy was about). Soon starting The Judas Strain by James Rollins.
I loved The Da Vinci Code, but I sort of think Angels and Demons was better. There's supposed to be a third book in that series coming out some time, but I haven't found it yet. I finished The Riddle last night, and I'll probably start Dracula, Prince of Many Faces-His Life and Times on Monday.
Letters From The Inside I've jut finished reading Letters For The Inside, It has really made an impact on the way I think about things as it has a twisting plot, can't say i'm too pleased with the ending though!
I am reading a book called Charity, I can't remenber the authors name at the mo, I only started it yesterday. I just finish 'Life's to short to frost Cupcake's' by Rosie Mellower (i think that was the surname), a bit of a chick lit book, but it made me want to get bus home from work somedays. which is a good sign.
I am actually reading Edith Wharton's "Ethan Frome" and I am completely fascinated by it. I read it a few years ago and all of a sudden I suddenly decided to write a Book Report and fell on the book quite by chance.
I am actually reading Edith Wahrton's "Ethan From" and am fascinated by the story and the style of the writer. I read it a few years ago and now all of a sudden I decided to write a Book Report which I used to do in class. I fell by chance on thsi book and hear I am on it.
"Ship of the Damned " by James F. David. A creepy book about the Philadelphia Experiment and people with psi powers, etc etc...good read.
Right now I'm reading Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana by:Michael Azerrad I've been on a biography kick as of late, but the last fiction Book(s) I've read was the Lost years of Merlin by T.A. Barron.
Finishing: Till We Have Faces - C. S. Lewis Starting: As Simple As Snow - Gregory Galloway Taking with me on vacation: House of Leaves - Danielewski The Thief Lord - Funke Just Listen - Dessen
I am currently reading Shadow Kiss, the third book in Richelle Mead's series, Vampire Academy!! OMG, I so love Dimitri, my hot Russian damphir!
I finally got round to reading Edgar Allen Poe today! I'd only ever really read The Raven before. It's really interesting, some of it is quite brilliant.
