Reading 'CHESS' by Stefan Zweig. Story about how the world war led to a man going insane over chess. Very chilling book. Short but still a good read. Especially good if you are a chess player like i am.
I envy you Speedy. I really wish I could read that series again for the first time. Just started Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Haruki Murakami, A Wild Sheep Chase. I think this man is the only author who can write one hundred pages of characters talking nonsense, and keep me interested enough to read another hundred pages.
I read that book, personally I really enjoyed it, but I see your point. I think I have wake, I haven't read it yet, but I still have like 50 new books from my birthday and christmas combined to read lol Right now I am (mainly) reading The Princess and the Hound by Mette Ivie Harrison and The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, though i'm finding the second still fairly hard to really get into. Though I finally finished The Phantom of the Opera which was pretty good, though I like the play better personally.
I was given two books recently and haven't started either. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Drinkers of the Wind by Carl R. Baswan. Which should I start?
I'm waiting for GONE, the 3rd in the series. It comes out 2010 though. Luckie!!! I have no books left over from Christmas and my birthday to read. I'm babysitting to earn extra cash to buy more books, since I'm addicted to books (like everyone else here ) and I have a long list of books I need to go buy. Oh, and I'm rereading Wicked.
lol well I got a couple gift cards and like a million other books from my family because I asked for a ton and they know me and my addiction to books lol but another part of it was I'm so busy during the school year that I couldn't read as much as normal and i was reading other books cuz my friend and I do this book trade thing so yeah...
I'm reading Malacandra: Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis... It's not going too fast, since I'm busy wuth a lot of other stuff...
I don't know the 2nd book, but you'll probably love Water for Elephants as most people who've read it do. Myself, I found it way too sentimental. ---- Finally starting You Are Here by Jennifer Smith. Also, just recently finished Paranoia by Joseph Finder. He writes corporate crime thrillers. I love most of his stuff.
Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife (good read.) I am currently working on Autumn by David Moody, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. On a zombie kick, seeing how other writers do it. Also reading Magyc to my son.
Has anyone read A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens? I'm trying to expand my reading spectrum by reading some of the classics. Anyway, is it any good?
I read it. I personally find Dickens to be an extremely dry writer, and I am a fan of many classics. As it is, it is still a classic and many people enjoy it; when Dickens published a new chapter every time, people were clammoring for it... I still disliked it though. Try it, but you have been warned. I'm reading Lolita right now.
some consider the opening line in that book to be one of the best ever... I'm reading "tragedy and hope" by carroll quigley.... well trying to again LOL
Re-reading Haruki Murakami's After Dark, for the upteemth time. It's a novella set over the course of one night in Tokyo. Maybe if I read it enough, I too will write something this cool.
The Songs of Distant Earth - Arthur C Clarke More human than his other work and better for it. Highly recommended. Intend to read next Pride and Prejudice - Now that I've read the zombiefied version I'm interested to compare it to the original.
Currently reading: The Good Guy By Dean Koontz I will also be starting on the fifth book of the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King sometimes soon. Taking a bit of a break.
Currently reading 'The Great Gatsby". Its the book i will have to study in class next year so i figure i'll check it out first.
