How We Are Hungry, by Dave Eggers, which are some of the most inventive stories written this decade. He's kinda my idol.
I liked Eggers' first effort quite a bit. The breathless rant near the end interrupted my cardiac function somewhat - extraordinary indeed for a few marks on a page. Do you visit McSweeney's(sp?) at all? Hit and miss but some fun stuff there (from amateurs). I'm off for a time; my packed bag includes Wain's biography of Johnson and Passmore's 100 yrs of philosophy. What larks!
I read a couple of his stories today, I liked them and planning to check out that book. I'm rereading Skellig by David Almond so I can read My Name Is Mina.
Reading A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin. I've heard good stuff about the Earthsea novels, so I thought I'd read at least the first one in the series. I'm about 50 pages in, and it's good so far.
The moon is a harsh mistress. I've been excited to read this novel for a good long time. Now it looks like I'll be able to.
=3 I fell in love with The Disc World series when I bought the first 2 on a whim. I will definitely get some more! ___ I've just finished reading the original version of "The Gunslinger" (3rd time's the charm!). Now I'm waiting to get home to read it again, but the updated version so as to compare the two, see precisely what he changed (he changed the end A LOT).
Just finished Wicked a few days ago, and am currently working my way through the Oz Chronicles. I'm currently on the third story, Ozma of Oz. And so far, they're all fantastic (though in the letters to his audience before each story, his frustration over the popularity of the series is clear as day).
Rereading 'How I Live Now' by Meg Rosoff which I love, and reading 'Mini Shopaholic' by Sophie Kinsella - both for uni.
I'm reading some of the essays in William H. Gass's The World Within The Word. If you like literary writing and the beauty of the English language in itself, you'll love William Gass.
Seventh Son - Orson Scott Card Incarceron - Catherine Fisher Fantasy's not usually my thing, but both books came highly recommended.
This morning i started and finished the book Wake and it was fantastic, I can't wait to get the other two!
I am reading Iron Coffins: A Personal Account of the German U-Boat Battles of World War II by Herbert A. Werner. It was a gift from my brother--one right on target.
I'm starting Lord Jim, by Joseph Conrad. I recently read his The Shadow Line and I guess I'm on a Conrad kick. He's one of my favorite writers.
I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth today. Finished it in about 20 minutes... it was an Xmas gift to my brother, but he let me borrow it. I read the whole series while babysitting this past year, they're pretty good kids books.
I read/finished Fade, sequel to Wake (Those books are so fantastic, I have yet to read one over the course of multiple days) and this morning I went and bought Gone the final book in the trilogy which I'm about to start. In between finishing Fade and getting Gone I read another new book from christmas called Impulse by Ellen Hopkin. I just finished it and it was a really powerful novel. The whole book is a series of poems from the the three main characters, all of whom are teenagers that end up in a mental hospital due to their seriously messed up past's. It was very good, and very hard-hitting.
Im reading Evermore by Alyson Noel. My friend gave me this book for Christmas and it is by her favorite author. So far it is amazing. I highly reccomend it for anyone who is looking for a good read.
