Last night I had a dream I was up really high on a ladder and the ladder fell back and I hit the concrete and heard my neck snap. I then saw my own funeral. It's the first time I've fallen like that without waking up. I actually watched as I fell all the way down. When I did wake up later in the night I had a head ache. I had always heard an urban legend that if you didn't wake up before you hit the ground you would have a heart attack in your sleep and really die. Anyone else ever hear this? Anyone else not wake up when falling?
Good grief. That must have been scary. So what do you think now? Does the dream have any meaning for you? Was the falling a feeling you recognise or were any of the props things that you know about? What happened at the funeral? I occasionally have falling backwards dreams, but you're right, I always wake up. Usually with a huge jerk of my body. Strange sensation.
I have to be honest, the fall felt quite peaceful. It was like I was finally letting something go that I had held onto for a very long, long time. When I saw the funeral is was from a long distance, and there were actually more people there than I thought would show up. Then it felt like nothingness.
Not really. I didn't get to see it very long and it was from so far away. It was just like a blink to show that the crack I heard and felt when I hit the ground did mean I died.
Perhaps you've come to peace with something recently? There's so much finality in a funeral scene, so... calming. Or perhaps you're finally ready to face something you've put off, like talking to an estranged relative/friend.
This is something to reflect on. Dying in a dream is not completely unique. Tensing up while hitting the ground might cause some stress on the body if you aren't completely paralyzed, but most people are not fragile enough to die from heart issues. I've actually committed suicide in a dream. The dream was frustrating and leaving that was probably more of a contrast than a signal that the afterlife is automatically peaceful.
There a far side cartoon about this but I can't find it. So you get a picture of Albert Alligator getting molested by an eggbeater inside his stomach.
Funny I figured you would offer to buy me one. I find it odd that no one else has chimed in with their own type of dream story.
I only ever said that you are a clown who's posts I will no longer take seriously, not that I want you to die.
Never had a dying dream, just the usual crap: teeth falling out, falling but waking before splatting, running around naked, etc. I think those are all pretty common to most people and have some relation to stress, but the last actually makes sense for me since I run around naked when awake all the time.
What If You Don't Wake Up While Falling? If you don't wake up, then you died. I've never had it happen to me, but I knew someone who did.
James, I think you need to change you name. Some members might assume that you are the author of Ulysses, and that would be plagiarism.
I've died in my own dreams before. I've even literally killed myself once, and in that one, I was holding up the top part of my head by my hair (my lower jaw and the rest of my body were missing, oddly enough), looked into my own eyes, and remarked something about how I looked defiant, and I remember scoffing in disappointment that I just didn't look scared enough to myself. I was even devoured by a giant snake, and then got reincarnated into another woman, and entered the same basement that I died at previously, with no memory of a giant snake in there until I saw it again... My own deaths were weird experiences. I was unfeeling, and kept wanting to "sleep". I don't know why I would have murdered another me in such a gruesome manner, but it creeped me out most of all.
^ I hope that you mean my second dream and not my first mentioned one. I don't want to think that I cannibalized myself. That would be rather unsettling.
I sorta did, but was keeping it tasteful. I have weird dreams all the time, mostly about hellavators and breaking teeth. (The breaking teeth thing has ceased to majorly bother me in real life.) The most interesting dream I had lately could be summed up with... "I gave birth, and was pissed that it hurt less than my monthlies," and something about regretting that I would have been happy as a teenage slut. I'll try to remember something weird if that is what you want.
I usually 'fall' to sleep. What I mean is; as I'm about to sleep I see myself falling down a large black hole, and that's how I fall asleep, no pun intended. I have never actually fallen in a dream... well... that I can remember. Some odd dreams end with me either getting shot, stabbed, axed, drowned or strangled (my braincells must love me), my presumed death is what wakes me up. So hitting the ground while falling should be fine! Nothing starts the day better than waking up after just having been shot! It really makes you appreciate the mornings.
Okay, that might explain why I constantly dream about my teeth falling out. I've also died in a dream, but I can't remember having died by falling down. I remember dreaming of falling on my face, like, tripping over, and then I twitch awake. The most memorable death dream was about me being a sheriff of some lawless town and then I got shot by the salon doors.. It was kind of awesome.
