What is your way to write a book/ story?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by HenWii, Sep 18, 2021.

    Hello people,

I want to share my way how I write and plot my storys, I would love to hear, how you guys do it as well to get some insights.
    I list my process here:

    1. I have an idea to write a story
    2. I collect ideas and just write them down
    3. I put my ideas in order
    4. I look how I can put more into the story to fill some gaps
    5. I write a plan for the story
    6. writing
    7. let it sit for a week
    8. correction 1
    9. read it out loud
    10. correction 2
    11. layout design, painting some pictures for the story
    12. print/ create a PDF file
What is your way to create a story/ novel? I would love to hear your process.

    Have a good weekend! :)

    I typically follow this process:

1- Get an idea for a MC or plot
2- Build on the MC or plot and connect the two, then thought dump
3- Arrange my ideas in order, (subject to change as I'm writing my draft)
4- Decide on any important themes or morals to carry through my story
5- Write the first copy, only breaking to fix major plot holes or adhere to a full redirection
6- Allow roughly one month to pass before circling back to edit
7- Usually my rewrite is a total restart of intricate edit to polish every aspect of my story
8- Let it sit and do a less extreme edit then repeat a week or two later
9- Seek beta feedback on anything I'm too uncertain about
10- Choose my layout for ascetics
11- Hide it away on a flash drive until I collect myself enough to pursue publishing or publicizing (still waiting on this step.)

    ~ Finished ~ :)

Like Ant-man above, my process is completely organic and different each time. Each story grows from something, it can be anything really. Then it grows outward from that and begins to take on a vague shape. You know, even that isn't always the same. All I can say is that each one takes its own form in its own way.

For the current almost-available book, I heard two lines in a Judas Priest song that made me go, "Hm hm, yes. Thousand of cars, aha. Oh, and a million guitars? You have a point, sir."
Wrote a slightly bigger scene around that, and then took an old idea for a videogame to get enough content to call it a book.

I'm doing more or less the same for the next thing. Got an idea, started writing. Then I got more ideas because of what I was writing.
Basically, if an idea is dumb enough to turn into an idiotic big deal, I'll give it a shot to see where it goes.

    Mostly nowhere.

    1. Get an idea
    2. write
    3. write
    4. write
    5. outline (maybe)
    6. write
    7. finish (let sit)

    then.....
    1. reread
    2. edit
    3. research
    4. edit
    5. reread
(i am in this phase in one of my WIPs... editing/researching/rereading....)

See or read something I think is a cool idea but could have been done better. Use that as the launching point, and fill out the story from there.
