Similarly, the show has me wondering if maybe I suffer from undiagnosed anemia. Coming from a certified hypochondriac! ;D Just finished binge-ing it. Sad that there's not a second season, nor have there been any announcements of one. Maybe one day soon. COVID already took away the new Oregairu season from me. This timeline is cruel.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - The fear of long words. Floccinaucinihilipilification - The action or habit of estimating something as worthless. Can't wait to use these in a conversation.
This was originally coined as a tongue in cheek term referring to people that go out of their way to use big words that mean nothing (it's literally 5 Latin words that literally mean "nothing" smooshed together), so I'd be careful of using it seriously around too many English majors, or you might be inadvertently making yourself the butt of an accidental joke.
Oh, I wouldn't mind. In case I used anyone of these two words it'd be on the very intention of floccinaucinihilipilificating. Twice the glamour.
When I was very young, I would combine a long string of random syllables together to sound smart. 10 year olds are easily impressed. Or, I was easily self-deceived.
Nipperkin (noun) 1: a liquor container or vessel with a capacity of a half pint or less 2: a quantity of liquor contained in or able to be contained in a nipperkin I love it and I am using it in my story.
Next time I get to Istanbul, insha'allah, I'm going to get a calabash meerschaum pipe. I have a small collection of meerschaums of no special provenance along with a couple of other tobacco pipes. I rarely (less than once a year) smoke a pipe but to me they are a form of art.
It sounds brutal to me for some reason. Her warm smile, her ever so tender touch just below his earlobe gave him (a) frisson. Feels like the man has just been executed by electrocution.
Really? I think of it as that little positive shiver that can come from something fairly innocuous, kind of like what the ASMR people report feeling when there's a nice voice through the headphones or the sound of a brush going over a rough surface.
I've also heard it used in other contexts, like a frisson of fear or a frisson of guilt to indicate minor occurrences of those emotions. "He felt a frisson of fear when he saw something moving out of the corner of his eye, but relaxed when he realized it was just his pet cockroach Gus inspecting his sandwich."
A Grue is a term a shiver or shudder out of fear/cold.Llike she felt a grue of conscience creeping up on her. But I've also heard it used in other contexts, too, like You have been eaten by a Grue.
I never do it for pretentious purposes, I just like using big words sometimes. It makes writing and speaking much more interesting and intellectually stimulating.
