Naked And Inflamed
Seek Medical Attention
Not a new word as such however, from the film 'The sound of Music'
And I have no friggin idea what it means.
I didn't learn this today, per se, but growing up I always thought "nonplussed" meant unfazed. As I got older I came to realize it meant pretty much the exact opposite: "(of a person) surprised and confused so much that they are unsure how to react."
I guess it was the "non" in there that made me think otherwise?
ETA: And if you can be nonplussed, why can't you be plussed?
I thought that was Mary Poppins.
kutte - those patch-covered denim vests that bikers wear. (Learned this from @Iain Aschendale in the 'things that annoy me' thread.)
Learn to pronounce
adjective: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious; adjective: supercalifragilistic
extraordinarily good; wonderful.
"the only word to characterize Kepler's discoveries was ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’"
1940s: apparently a fanciful formation based on super, popularized by the 1964 film Mary Poppins .
shipping: to mean a desire for two fictional characters, or two real well-known people, to be involved in a romantic relationship.
Forgot to put this in with the discussion of "inflammable," but
For me, the word never fails to conjure images of early days at the DLIFLC where I learned that word as the 3rd person singular perfective form of the Russian verb to go (идти).
Are you saying that conversate is not a word? Hahaha... Oops...
It can be a word if you want it to.
Yeah, I think I've used it plenty... The right verb is "converse" but even when I write it as "conversate", it doesn't highlight it as wrong, which is confusing. So, here I was thinking that both were correct... for years... At least I know now.
Well, it is a word; make your own conclusions as to whether you want to use it or not.
In vino veritas
"In wine, lies the truth."
In cupam imperium:
^lmao! I'm so drunk right now. That was incredible. With that, I bid goodnight.
EDIT: So many of those comments are top-freaking-tier. Oh my God.
Contrition - A deep and sincere feeling of remorse that is customarily associated with the pious repentance of sins. (My words)
I always thought contrite was synonymous to anger. I picked a great time to learn this word.
*Has flashbacks to Catholic school*
I thought about entering the poetry contest until I saw this prompt and clicked back because I have no idea what it means
Basically means "by coincidence". Something that happened purely by chance, luck.
Separate names with a comma.
