I mean, I kinda knew this one but didn't know the details: Sutler A sutler or victualer is a civilian merchant who sells provisions to an army in the field, in camp, or in quarters. Sutlers sold wares from the back of a wagon or a temporary tent, traveling with an army or to remote military outposts.[1] Sutler wagons were associated with the military, while chuckwagons served a similar purpose for civilian wagon trains and outposts.[2] Snagged from Wikipedia, bouncing off a youtube post on the Roman army.
Pompatus is a nonce word coined by Steve Miller in his hit single “The Joker” - Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah Some call me the gangster of love Some people call me Maurice 'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love a
He didn't actually coin it, but borrowed it from some singer he knew from his youth. I think it was one of the Spinners or Platters, or some Motown act, who used it in one or two songs. He met the guy at some music festival and asked if he could use the term, got permission, and the rest is history.
Steve Miller's father was an electrical engineer who participated in the early development of the electric guitar. Steve's godfather was Les Paul.
Not a new word, but a definition I hadn't heard before, that brings new light to things. Postmodernism—the belief that words don't describe reality, but create it. This puts many things into perspective.

Ouroboros: emblematic serpent of ancient Egypt and Greece represented with its tail in its mouth, continually devouring itself and being reborn from itself.
It was in the early days of PC's before it was well known. The early CAD programs had as the first seven colors the ones specified by IEEE as the standard colors for a color CRT test pattern. Red Yellow Green Blue Cyan Magenta White. Maybe this should be moved to Random and Useless Facts.
I've included it in my writing on occasion, although some of the stuff I used to write was way out there and I've toned it down a bit for the writing forums. I didn't always refer to it as Ouroboros though, sometimes I would call it The Eternal Serpent because it was a better fit for what I was writing at the time.
