"We're weaponizing pacifism," said the activist. "The UN has weaponized international peace-keeping." "Before the coupe, they weaponized civilian disarmament." "Pelosi is weaponizing gun control."
The whole concept of "left" and "right" in politics is well-past obsolete, except as an insult. Reducing the complexity of the diverse differences people have in political thought to a one-dimensional metric infantilizes the discourse.
communism its like a dirty word that has come back into pop culture again. Ive read too many Russian novels with prophets like Fyodor D. to ever like the word. Yes the word is sometimes used unfairly by rightists who hate consensus and anything achieved outside the individual. But JP doesn't like it how can I possibly argue with him. Does get confused with cultural Marxism. Not sure I know the exact difference.
yes but...… so political parties are obsolete? they can be bloody boring and predictable but are they truly obsolete? a leftist might say something like you've just said..."its more complex than that". And sometimes it is. But sometimes the truth is simple too.
socialism ostensibly a word that sounds compassionate. cares about the group. especially the exploitable workers. by the right, a disease that needs to be rid of.
compassion according to many on the left, conservatives don't have it at all. They (the left) own it. Thats' why they should be in charge. because all you need to run a country is compassion. Don't worry about the economy or security. They will take of themselves. Just feel empathy for the oppressed.
Actually, they are worse than obsolete, at least in the USA. An obsolete thing simply isn't useful anymore. Political parties have become the opposite of useful. We'd be better off without them. Let every candidate run on his or her own merits, and let them vote the interests of their constituency.
that sound idealistic to me. Pragmatically speaking we need big parties who can organise themselves to run the country. as jp says capitalist democracies aren't perfect but they are the best systems available
