Sawyer would probably pick, Miss Browne, the waitress at the cafe in town. Something about her just doesn't sit right with him - she seems to know more than she lets on, and quite frankly, she gives him the creeps. For Benji, it'd be whoever controls the military base on the outskirts of town. He doesn't like how they're always getting in the way. Your MC is suddenly in a sitcom, and must live with someone who is the polar opposite of them. Describe this person. How does your MC react to them? How do they react to your MC?
Tony would probably get an artist who hates precision and insists on making abstract art. Hey, maybe I should actually add that in the story... it might create for some interesting conflict... Anyway Nimblefinger, Monocle, Blackjack and Doppelganger would probably get an oppressive, tight-ass government official, a paranoid hobo, a suspicious gambler who tries to upset his tricks and whoever gets in his way, respectively.

For the sake of saving this thread from dying out, I'll just throw out something I threw the other day: Your MC has the chance to be invisible for a day. What does your MC do?
If invisible for a day: Lapis the diplomat would probably use it as an opportunity to steel important documents, schematics or anything else that he thought could be useful. He would then turn those over to members of the ethnic minority he belongs too who are also interested in gaining independence. Portia the genetically engineered soldier is a little more complicated. She really has less of an agenda and really just goes with what is happening when not given orders. Her only real loyalty is to Lapis. she would most likely use it to cause mayhem for fun, and to steal stuff. What/ how is your MC’s romantic life? are they married, perpetual bachelor, widower, ect, and how did they get there?
Well, James, thanks for touching on the ONLY two subplots that I'm really not all too sure about. President Robert Ellis: His first wife, Sarah, was killed in a terrorist attack bigger than 9/11, which took place 16 years before he became president, and 24 years before the timeline the story is focused on. After a few chapters we discover that the first lady, the second wife, happens to be the policewoman who saved his life that day (Alana). Their marriage is not going too well. She hates some of her husband's causes, and hates the fact that he pretty much used her, and used his personal tragedy, to get to where he is. She also thinks his best friend is a psycho, which of course is true. I am not really sure how to exactly what I would make of this whole Ellis-Jeremy-Alana plotline. I'm thinking maybe to have her having an affair with the VP, whose policies she agrees with. I could take it into a pretty hilarious place, if VP Donovan wins the elections and marries Alana, she'll be the first person in US history to be a first lady in two different administrations Kevin Craig: As a young man, he met a girl in the "Yasser Arafat" cafeteria of "Flick University", also known as "Flick U". Sort of a commentary on the fact that it's legitimate in the US to name cafeteria after mass murderers like Castro's former minister Che Guevara while ignoring the feelings of the Cuban Americans. Since the book is focused on him as a young man and an old man, without a lot about his life in the middle, I don't know if this is the girl he'll marry or not. But we do know he was married once, it didn't work out, but at least he got a daughter out of the whole thing, which he loves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Your MC could touch the head of one person in his world, and see one of two things: 1. A little background: Sabby is a sociopathic assasin for an underground empire bent on overthrowing any and all forms of government on the West Coast of the U.S. who has an alternate agenda with her brother Warden, and has made it a mission in her life to kill the guy who raped her. She's also OCD to an extreme degree. Warden is a mechanical genius, operates and works within his own manufacturing company- he feeds info to his sister Sabby and pays her to take out his competition- is slowly becoming the face and name of the aboveground empire on the West Coast, and is the only person the FBI can't figure out. Bentley is an undercover cop who acts as Sabby's clean-up guy, and Empire law enforcer, silently building cases and evidence against those in the upper eschelon of the Empire, working to take it down. Bentley and Sabby have a very complicated history. Sabby would choose to see the past of the Empire's leader, Chale Aquino, because he's the only person who makes her feel fear. She would do it to look for weaknesses, chinks in his armor, to better manipulate him. Warden would choose to see the future of Sabby. He worries about her, and hopes that if by knowning her possible (if not certain) future, he could do something to change it so she wouldn't die young, or tragically. Bentley would choose to see Sabby's past. She keeps her history to herself, and since most of those who helped turn her into the person she is now are dead, it makes Bentley's attempts at investigating her impossible. Bentley just wants to know why she's so batsh*t, and how she came to be that way. If your MC could slowly rewind time and freezeframe on a specific memory- good or bad- what would it be, and why that memory?

For Lapis, I think he would probably freeze-frame, ( I am taking this as giving him a chance to relook at the moment and gain new insights) the death or departure of his wife ( I don’t quite have this part figured out. Its between suicide, killed in military action, or she left him) he always ignores the question from others Portia would go to the time she was beaten up by an assassin. Incidently, my story has 3 different time periods in it, so some characters appear in plotlines of more than just one time period, which makes it easier for me to think about it. So I mended it a little bit, and I had my characters meeting themselves from the past, and giving themselves advice. Kevin Craig: Kevin in his 60s could visit Kevin in his 20s and tell him that he should brace himself. He shall soon see a violent conflict between two people, which would put him in mortal danger, but he'll survive. Later he'll meet a girl reading a book by St. Augustine. They'll fall in love and she will break his heart. Also, he could tell him that when he'll be in his 40s, a man standing behind him will be murdered, and he can stop it. The older Kevin knows the exact date and the circumstances. Then he'll tell him that his daughter, who doesn't yet exist, would be a very successful person, and that he will be proud of her. President Robert Ellis: He would tell the younger Ellis of just how his wife will die. He could save her, but then it's not certain he'll be VP, and therefore, won't be president. If the older Ellis meets a version of himself AFTER the death of his wife, he'll tell him about the identity of his second wife, and that they'll fall out of love, and it's tragic. Then he would tell him about everything that went wrong with the administration, in hopes he could fix it, including the identity of a US soldier who would one day sabotage a piece of military equipment on a rather crucial night. Jeremy: This psycho works in the Ellis administration, but he might recommend that the younger Jeremy doesn't do so. He might go the way of Beef in "Back To The Future" or McComb in "Timecop", giving the younger Jeremy information to make him rich and powerful. If it's within the confines of the Ellis administration, fine. If not, that's fine too. But he would tell him he must keep his friendship with Ellis, because Ellis will be powerful. (Gonna answer as though Sawyer and Benji lived in the present, because I'm still not totally sure what era their story's in yet. Wahaha) I can't see Sawyer being much of a music person. He's also really behind the times on pretty much everything, so he'd probably like whatever one-hit-wonders were popular the previous year. But he might also be a closeted death-metal fan, because all the crazy, chaotic sounds would be strangely relaxing to him. He'd be too embarrassed to admit it to anybody, though, because he isn't at all tough or cool, so people would just think it was funny. Benji'd definitely be a fan of reggae and psychedelic music. Anything with a peaceful vibe to it would appeal to him. He wouldn't sit just listening to music, but have it playing as background noise for when he's doing something more productive, so he wouldn't like anything particularly loud or harsh. Maybe he'd be a fan of classical music, too, for the same reason. Raiden would want to be rewritten in a high fantasy setting, but she would demand to be written as a normal human being. Because of her biological "upgrades," she's often the center of attention and is given more responsibilities, but she wants to be a background character for once so she can enjoy her life without anyone giving her a second glance. (Plus she's sick of all the science in her current genre and wants to be in a magical setting for a change.) Emery would want to be in a superhero (I guess action?) novel. His job forces him to remain anonymous, but he wants a little recognition for all the good he does for people. Things in his ordinary life aren't looking so great for him, but maybe if he was a superhero life would be a breeze.... Fin would want to be rewritten in a romance novel. She dreams of her knight in shining armor coming to rescue her from her mundane lifestyle, but no one in her current story line seems able to sweep her off her feet. She knows having such high standards is making the future of her love life seemingly bleak, but hey, she can still dream, can't she? The ground opens up beneath your MC and he/she begins to fall into a black pit. What goes through your MC's head? What does your MC think is at the bottom of the pit?

Portia would without a question touch Lapis head and see his past. Lapis keeps his past a secret. He also tells different versions of his past to different people. this drives Portia who is his bodyguard and chief of staff crazy. Lapis is a little harder. He would look for someone that would be likely to survive any political turmoil yet still be in a position to have access to a high level of information. Lapis would want this information to swing history in his sides favor. In the beginning he would probably pick Shamis, a political animal that is power hungry but would never let himself get hurt. Latter he would probably pick Tivvey, a female drug kingpin and something like an ally to him. What was your MC’s family like growing up? and what is there relationship with them like now?
Sophia is a very family-oriented young woman. She grew up in a family that comes from old money and they're still prominent Society; her parents were doting albeit her mother was a bit strict with her always. Her father is a very accomplished lawyer who moved from Paris (her original birthplace) to London purely for business as his partners were merging with a London firm. He expected her to go for law like her older brother did, but barely had much to say when she announced that she was going to college in America. All in all, they were supportive of her in almost all of her exploits, though her mother still is very nitpicky about the things her daughter has chosen for her life (she disapproves of her career choice in Economics and Political Theory), they just won't do for a Society woman. They still have a good relationship, and she comes home for the Holidays and part of summer. Regardless of the differences, she loves them too much to truly leave them. Your MC loses the most important thing in his/her life. What is it and how would they react?

He felt a strong pair of hands lift him from under his armpits and he was thrown out of the way. Yet he still couldn't take his eyes off the headline which had caused his legs to shake and fall. 'Edwards And Barton Affair Scandal!' Huey's eyes drifted to the accompanying picture of his girlfriend, the town's respectable young MP, with her arms round the neck of a colleague, lips locked together. Their relationship had been rocky recently but Huey never thought she would have gone this far. A lump formed in his throat as realisation hit home. He had lost her. Write a scene in which your character is more scared than they have ever been before.
Is it just me, or is everyone waiting for someone else to do that last request? I think it's a little too hard. The whole fun and charm in this game is that you get sort of a quick instruction within a certain framework "your character is experiencing X, describe how they would react to X". What we see here is more of a "Invent X and write an entire scene about it". So, I'm rootin for Matty to give another instruction. Unless someone wants to go ahead and write that scene.
Lapis was dragged into the hanger bay of the spaceship. His legs where shackled and his hands where cuffed painfully tight behind his back. the two soldiers then shoved him onto the ground in the middle of the hanger. Lapis got to his knees as he watched them leave, and then seal the doors. “no, no, no” lapis started mumbling The alarms began to sound that the hanger doors would open.
