I have only one recipe book and that is for cooking for babies and toddlers. I wanted to know the best foods to cook for my children and so I bought it. Learnt a lot from it and got some great ideas as well. Otherwise I don't bother with recipe books at all. Experimentation is the only way to go in my opinion and that is how I learnt to cook.
I have a large quantity of recipe books. I usually use them for a starting point, and sometimes I'll look up a few versions of the same dish in different books. The problem with off-the-top-of-my-head experimentation is that I tend to fall into similar recipe patterns. I'm actually more experimental when I see unique recipe ingredients I would probably not have thought of.
somebody once asked me for my soup recipe. I just sort of went duh I learned to make soup from my mother and she learned from her mother. you take some meat put it in water spice it the way you like and toss in all the vegetables that are left in the crisper the day before or the day you get groceries. How do you tell someone that is your recipe. Same with stews or casseroles. You make them to hide things your family doesn't particularly like. I love to read the recipes and then mix and match them to make them my recipe.
I had store bought pizza with meat and more cheese added by me. Tasty, but I left it in too long and the crust was harder then usual. I really need to find some yeast.
.33 cents is 2.30 yuan here. They can buy meals for less if here if they want to bargain a little. And they prefer their own noodles to foreign ones, thats why I have to buy imported spaghetti instead of buying local. Good idea in theory though.
Not sure what we'll be having but for afters we will be having the chocolate log I made at school today. It looks lush, a chocoloate swich roll covered in chocolate buttecream. Yummy.
two questions what is Tika Masila and what is. chocoloate swich roll they both sound either exotic or interesting. get to cook dinner for myself again tonight and haven't decided yet. But I will be cooking bacon and eggs and toast for breakfast for Don in a little bit.
thought it might be the swiss roll. think I will pass on the tika. never a fan of curry. thanks for explaining.
Tiki Masala is actaually a mild, aromatic, somewhat creamy curry. I like it, although I favor the hotter ones like Vindaloo.
I'm looking forward to going out to a nearby diner with a bunch of friends and eating some buffalo chicken tenders. I've had the weirdest craving for buffalo sauce + meat recently.
There's a chain of pubs in the States, Buffalo Wild Wings. They feature wings with your choice from 14 sauces from Sweet Barbeque to Blazing (my own favorite). The sauces are available for mail order as well. The one I went to was in Kansas City, and it became my favorite place for a meal and a beer (or 3) when I was there on work trips.
Kewl. Not sure what i'm having tonight... i'll have a jacket potato whilst i'm at school though. Probably with cheese.
I had Kentucky Fried Chicken and it was really yummy. I had it for lunch as well. GOtta gain weight somehow
I need to lose it but oh well. That aint gonna happen anytime soon. Might have scotch fillit steaks with vegies. If my BF gets a move-on and washes the pots!
I had a bit of baguette, four things that i don't know what they're called, they're rice, garlic and a bit of meat wrapped up in a wonton like wrapper and steamed quite tasty. And I had whipped cream and pastries filled with more whipped cream for desert. Very nice.
