Ok I'm gonna see if someone can help me here. In my YOUNG LITERATURE (So it's going to be to that age range) class a year ago, we had to present books we'd read and basically talk about them and such. There was a book that seemed really interesting, but I don't know what it was called or who it was by. I think it was scheduled to be a movie soon. As they described it there's this village or something, full of a bunch of people, and there's one person among them who is chosen to be the holder of all their secrets. By giving that person their secrets they become happy and ignorant (I think) And eventually the chosen ones are replaced and sent off, but they find out "sent off" means to kill them. The current truth-keeper was born blind (I think) and he's "sent away", but escapes...someone else helps...and I think there's a sled. If this rings a bell for anyone...please let me know Won an award I think. It's like: The ______ ( 1 word)
I was thinking the same thing, The Giver, was stuck in my mind while reading this, but was not completely sure. But I remember liking the book, I have to read it again :/
^It was, but I had some shaky feelings about it at the end. I kinda was saying, "what?" in my head. But hey - it could just be my own preferences. A good read for sure though. EDIT: Oh really? They're adapting it into a movie? Are you sure? I think I'll borrow it from my local library and read it as well.
Oh yeah here's where I draw that conclusion from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435651/ There are also scattered websites covering the story but none too reliable. Looks like its scheduled for 2011
