@Wreybies didn't respond, but Id like him to know that I'm not planning in being a mod anytime soon and stealing his job! I'm starting high school soon, so I need to wait a while.
I'm not worried, pet. It's like cigarettes. You really want one until you've had that first one, cough your lungs out, probably vomit at the end of the last gut wrenching cough, and then you wonder what all the fuss was about.
Lol! I've always wanted to be a mod on any forum, though, but it always seemed so elite, since all the mods were hand picked and had been there for years. But here, I will at least try!
I was a mod for a year, I like to think I was ok at it but it damn near killed me. Kudos to @Wreybies and @minstrel for keeping this place afloat!
I like this place so much better now that the mods are changed...It's not often you see people banned now, and if they do get banned it's probably for good reason
I have always wondered that. If there's a heated debate or whatnot, how do you make sure your political/religious/other views don't get in the way? Seriously, hats off to these guys and gals.
You do your best, try and let the people have their say, and hope no one crosses a line. One someone crosses the line in political/religious/etc. deals, it's always a Kobayashi Maru for the mods. Take action, piss off Group A. Don't take action, piss off Group B. *shrug* Not always easy. With all the Let's Talk About How Gays Should Or Should Not Be threads that were happening there for a while, as a gay guy myself, it was a trying couple of weeks.
The mods seriously do a great job. It's not easy finding the right balance between fascism and anarchy.
who's ginger gonna dance with now? it feels like orphan twins being sent to different foster homes, one each coast - this is terrible...
I think this is the key - know where the lines are, then make sure they don't move. Easier said than done.
Thanks. My mother used to live on a very small island in British Columbia and I visited her a lot there. The whole island had two police officers. Every New Year's Eve, these guys would be rotated off the island and replaced with cops from somewhere else. The reason was that it was expected that a lot of people would be drinking and driving that night, and the regular cops wouldn't want to arrest them. The cops were friends of everybody, living in the same small community and all, and it's tough to bring the Hammer of the Law down on someone you have coffee with each morning. Strangers have an easier time of it. That's what it feels like being a mod here.
Now Ginger will just look like that extremely drunk woman at the work Christmas (Holiday party ) who is dancing with a presumably invisible friend.
I hope she'll forgive me for saying this, but I always thought that @GingerCoffee was at her worst when she was butting heads with JJ (even when I agreed with her and disagreed with JJ). I thought the opposite was also true. Ginger has offered up innumerable astute observations on this forum, and I often look forward to reading her take on things. So I think she will look like any other calm, rational, intelligent member of the forum.
So I take it we will be starting a Mod Appreciation Day soon? Now really, though, great job to the Mods here. They are pros. Sometimes I wonder what it's like watching from from their elevated perch, eyeing all our activity like sagacious hawks... But more often I see them as patrol cops walkin around with cool shades, who are just so friendly you forget that they can cite you. It helps that almost everyone on the forum is generally civilized (I mean, there are a few who might be writing in from uncharted parts of a jungle somewhere. ) I didn't even realize JJ had been banned. I just figured he had been quite busy elsewhere. Maybe I didn't have any major issues with him or debate him as frequently, but from where I sit, he will be missed a little. He was a ruthless and sometimes scathing titan for the Christian perspective, and his debates generally allowed for many more perspectives and challenges to arise. On that note, if racist or demeaning comments were made, it is good to see him gone. I think the debate room may be a lot less fired up too, as there will be fewer people insulted or pressured into arguing. There may also be a bit more variety in the debate room (that is, not every discussion of religion and science will whittle down to him and Ginger in circular debate of biased perspectives). Ah well, it's a new day, and everyone can breath easy. Thanks @minstrel and @Wreybies for all of your dedication. And you too, @Lemex. You were still a mod when I joined, so you get kudos too.
I think this too. Her and JJ would never agree, and were not ever likely to agree. They both had their own convictions and would be unshakable in them. You the man.
