    Where's the spirit? (Contest)

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by NaCl, Jul 16, 2008.

Are you too busy to vote in the site contests?

Some of our members put their work on display in our site's writing contests. It would be nice if we could support their efforts by taking just a few minutes to read their entries and vote. There is nothing more discouraging than to see a small number of votes...it implies that nobody cares. As far as "winning" or "losing", I have the utmost respect for these people who place their egos on the public chopping block. They are all winners in my book. No outside editing. No help. No place to hide...they expose their work to you for judgment. The least we can do is participate.

Right now, there is a poetry contest in the voting stage. Some of it is very good. I have already voted. Won't you join me in offering your respect to our fellow members?

I would vote, but it says I can't. Do I need a certain amount of posts to be able to vote?

Harmire, I get the same notation. I wanted to vote in the last short story contest a few days ago but the post would not allow me to do so. I tried to vote on the poetry about an hour ago with no luck. There are some really good ones.
I checked the FAQ trying to find out why I could not vote, but found no answer.

Maybe the poll only works for a certain amount of time, like a day or two. Then it shuts off and doesn't allow votes.

I think the poetry contest only posted for voting today so that would be a rather small window of opportunity to vote.
Maybe Harmire is right and we have not participated to a level to be allowed to vote yet.

The poll is still open. The only thing I can think of is that a limitation was imposed for the Consequences Short Story Competition that required a member to have joined before the contest began and to jave a minimum post count. It may have been accidentally extended over a wider scope than just that contest.

I'll send a message to Daniel so he can look into it.

Thanks Cogito. That does sound right though, I hope Dan can fix it.

That did happen for the Consequences Comp so must still be applying - thanks for mailing Daniel I have had PMs about this and couldn't work it out. Hopefully we can resolve this for the next bouts of voting.

I was thinking that too, Gannon. I hadn't realised it would affected the weeklies. My apologies to anyone who is affected by this.

I'm sure he can. The Consequences contest is over, so in the worst case, he can simply remove the restriction. Hopefully in the future he can limit it to a single prize-based contest forum.

Yay! I, too, couldn't vote the last time I tried. I cried myself to sleep. I blame Banzai! :p

Thanks for fixing it. :0) I'd LOVE to write an entry for the short story contests once my busy travel schedule calms down. :0)
