This may very well be why submission letters and short stories are now to be pasted into the body of an email, so the submittee gets to read it in the font of their choice without having to screw with it.

And any sans-serif font takes far more energy to read. It's been proven scientifically, by gum.

I don't think fonts are necessarily designed to be read (in books.) A lot of them are for design purposes, or other purposes. Just because a font exists doesn't mean it's easy to read, or meant to be read in paragraphs, etc.

This is the current thinking, but I don't agree with it. There are fonts designed for reading and fonts designed to grab attention. Sans-serif fonts fall into the latter category. But using them for body text is just inviting readers to skip passages and not read the entire thing because, as I said earlier, they're more difficult to read.

Sometime around ten years ago, things shifted on the Internet and suddenly everyone was publishing the body text of articles in san-serif. Every designer I knew (and having a degree in art and design, that was quite a few) threw up their hands in despair. The world had gone just a little bit more nuts. I even know a couple of designers out in Vancouver who quit the business because of this.

It's impossible to buck a trend, no matter how much sense—and even conclusions backed by scientific studies—lies behind the argument one makes.

@Sack-a-Doo! You need to help me argue to my colleagues that we need to stop justifying text because "It looks nicer."

You hold them down, I'll punch them in the face with justified text?

When you say that comic sans is your favorite, this would imply that there is no other font that supersedes it, for you, by preference. When you then say that you prefer Calibri, this would logically undermine the order of preference established by your prior statement, hence confusion.

Duh.. I don't think there is such point to get confused. We have some things that we like, but subsequently we have to follow some prerequisites to keep the content formal. So, I prefer Calibri in such consequences.

So you might phrase that as "Comic Sans is my favourite, but when I can't use it I use Calibri."

(You also might skip the "Duh". You seem to be hopping from thread to thread, being needlessly aggressive. I'm hoping it's a communication breakdown rather than a deliberate choice, but in case you're unaware of it - I don't think you're creating a strong first impression.)

Ah hell...anything that I care to use as long as I can read it comfortably, in size 10 or 11. :p
