Who are you and what do you want

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by IndigoAir, Dec 8, 2012.

Hello there wordyfolk. I am here to answer all of your personal questions.

Don't have any? I'll make some up!

My name is Indigo (not really, but I pretend it is) and I am a shy quiet silly person who wants to be a pop star. And also a fantasy writer. I joined the forum mostly to help with the second one.

I grew up in a teeny tiny township in Ontario, Canada and am back there now. I've spent the last two years moving around a lot, stumbling blindly through failed attempts at independence which ended in multiple instances of falling and bashing my face in (metaphorically speaking). That didn't come out as humorous as I had originally planned, so now I'll subtly change subjects.

I'm focusing on my writing right now, because doing something productive helps me not be so broody. But I also find it hard to focus unless I have someone to pester continuously with the dozens of questions that pop into my head while I am writing, so that is the big reason why I am here. But I also have been told I am a good editor because I am critical and honest but not too harsh, so hopefully I will be able to give some help and not just leech feedback off of all y'all nice people.

And that's quite enough of that.

(Also hello, and I haven't met any of you yet, but I'm sure I'll be pleased to do so.)

Hi, I'm also new to the forum and I believe your stumbling attempts at independence would be a nice to topic to turn it into
a story - even a fantasy, even though general fiction would fit better if I was to write such thing (which I want, but am
now stuck with finishing my university, so my independence attempts are off-limits).

I would love to make acquaintance with you, as you too are a Junior Member and I too don't know many ppl here.
    Cheers.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Indigo!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome to the forum - also, welcome to the many failed attempts at independence we call adulthood. Nobody likes it and most people don't ever get it right. I certainly know I haven't.

Looking forward to seeing some comical work - laughter is the best medicine! Maybe not for the flu, but those hacking chuckles are still a bit pleasant. =-]

Hwaigon: I might turn it into something eventually (I still feel like I'm in the middle of it, so perhaps now isn't the best time) but it would probably just be a comedic autobiography, not a fantasy type of thing. But that is an interesting idea. What are you in university for?

Banzai: Hi, the link you provided for the rules is a thread on giving proper critique, but I managed to find the rules on my own :)

cmshepard: I don't really mind the moving around and falling on my face, it's just a lot more boring than I expected. But that discussion involves more details than anyone in the world has the time for. I do love making people laugh, though sometimes I try too hard. I just have to work a bit on... not doing that. It's nice to meet you!
