I like the accents of people that English isn't their first language but when they speak English they sound nice. My faves are the French and Japanese. The Frech is sexy and the Japanese is cute.
I like: British accents they are so formal and kinda cool Japanese accents Greek accents (my accent tee hee)
I grew up in an area of a lot of immigrants. Polish, German and a lot of Dutch and Romanian people. I never really thought too much about accents then. But I did like the Dutch accents. We moved to Sudbury which is Italian, French and English in that order. So the accents were really standing out to me since I had never heard a French person speak and no Italians until I was 16. Toronto has a very high ethnic population and it keeps changing. When I lived there it was a lot of Italian. Now it is Chinese and Philipino, and Jamacan. I don't like Toronto any more since if you are English speaking you get very nasty looks from some of the other groups. It is really kind of scary to be there for me at least. In Marathon a population of 5000 we have Natives (Ojibwa) French, Philipino, English and Newfies. Newfies are the hardest accent to understand. When they moved here in groups 22 years ago the school hired a speech therapist thinking the newfie kids had speech impediments.
Backwoods Maine/ New Hampshire accents. They're just so funny to listen to. Otherwise, German or Italian.
omg the Scottish and Irish. I love those accents, just make me melt. Can't understand a flipping word they are saying but I love 'em. And I can rarely hear the difference between our accent and American's, unless they are Canadian.
Justina I put that in to be phiseshius or silly. In Ontario alone there are about 6 different accents. Northern Ontario we have West Ont. and East Ont. the east being closer to the Quebec border takes on a more french Canadian accent where the west doesn't. We have southern Ont which sounds kind of American to a lot of people. Then there is Toronto which has an accent pretty much it's own. We have Native people who each have their own accent depending which part of the Province they come from. Everyone has an accent depending on where they come from the only difference is that some countries are more noticeable or memorable.
I read a little later and saw that you were being silly! Sorry! I live very close to Canada and definitely know Canadians have accents (besides having lots of Canadian friends). Because I live so close whenever I have been in other countries I have been mistaken for Canadian.
Russian sounds intimidating as the stress is often at the beginning of the word, so it sometimes sounds somewhat aggressive to the untrained ear. When speaking English, most Russians use the type of inflection they would with the Mother tongue, hence the accent loses some of its agression (as we understand what is spoken) but retains its foreign mysterious sexiness. Curiously, when foreigners speak Russian, they inflect as they would in English, giving them a sexy accent to Russians also.
Justina I grew up in a little town about 1 hour north of Windsor. So when we moved north everyone asked where in the states we used to live. So I understand the border accent issue. It is fun to try and guess where someone is from listening not only to the accent but the words they use. I have some my husband never heard of until he met me. And he has some that are never spoken anywhere but the city he grew up in.
Irish and Scottish They are wonderful, and my favorite! My sister's natural father was Scottish, and his mother used to tell her when she wouldn't stop talking: "You're such a wee litl cha-err-box."
Signed a million times. I can't think of a specific person at the moment though. Korean is nice as well.
I'm quite fond of the English accent myself. Being a southerner in the states, I also find a good southern accent to be appealing too.
Hmm, I happened to come across this. So I thought it was worth of reviving the thread. speech accent archive: browse
How about Haitian? Listen to Jimmy Jean-Louis, The Haitian on the TV show Heroes. It's a very mellifluous accent, truly unique.
I personally find the Egyptian accent quite appealing. That is - when the speaker is fluent in English.
how ill informed and downright rude. by 'British' i assume you mean 'English'? please explain to me how an accent can be pretentious. you appear to be a bit of a twit, by jove, wot wot!
Well, what a, "Downright rude," thing of you to say. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The fact that you disagree with someone does not give you the right to insult them. I even disagree with her, but did I make a fuss about it? No. I just moved on. I personally think the accent is quite appealing. But if she doesn't, I'm okay with it. Apparently, you aren't.
its the lack of distinction between the different members of the British Isles that got my goat. maybe i was a little rude. its first thing in the morning here and i haven't had my coffee yet. i apologise.
