    Who rates the threads?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by cazann34, Mar 24, 2013.

Basically what I said in the title, who rates the threads. This is something I noticed a while ago but didn't get round to asking. I see that some threads have ratings (in stars) I just wondered if it was members who rated them or moderators?

Edit: And what exactly is getting the rating, is it the thread question, the advice or the critiques.

I think it is based on views and replies

This has been asked before. There is a thread rating link at the top of each thread, and we have previously suspected that members with noting better to do play with the ratings. It's not the moderators, and many of the ratings make no sense whatsoever.

I've been a member here for years now, and I didn't even know threads were rated. I'm lousy at this forum stuff!

i agree with cog on it making no sense in some/most cases... i think that results from the thread-starters giving themselves a top rating... check it out... you get to give it as many stars as you want... and if no one else rates it, that's the number of starts that shows up... so if you rate your own thread as 'excellent' and no one else rates it lower after that, it has a 5 star rating...

i've just rated this one as 'excellent'... if several of you will give it a one-star rating, that should cut the awarded rating way down, as the votes are averaged out [i'm assuming]...

i just tested it and went out of the thread and saw it jump to the top of the thread menu, but no stars appeared... so either it takes a while or i'm wrong about how it works... we'll see...

20 minutes later, i came back to see if i could vote more than once and it wouldn't let me... so it seems you can't overload your own thread with multiple top ratings... but i don't get why my vote still doesn't show up as stars... yet...

I might sort all the threads out tomorrow then, if nobody else is doing it, tidy up a bit.

For the record, I gave this thread a one-star rating yesterday to see what would happen. The rating still hasn't showed up, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

By the way, I was able to vote again today.

I've just added my own vote. I thought it might need a certain minimum number of votes before the stars show up, but I can't see anything yet.

It could be broken. Whether it works or not, it's bloody useless.

I surround avatars with little plastic stars and glitter, look at the screen for a while, then get on with my research.

If I had a printer and lolly sticks with glue would do a tea party in the garden with all my favourite CW personalities on a stick, wait until sun comes out s'pose.
