    For history I love Michael Hicks, David Starkey and Antonia Fraser.

    19th Century then George Gordon and Hugh Miller

    I also enjoy Pliny the Younger and Plato

    Samuel Johnson or perhaps Edward Gibbon, if you like that sort of thing. Orwell or maybe Bertrand Russell if you don't.
