Why I'm here? For a sense of belonging that I just can't find on any other place. It helps that people seem to find me mildly amusing and sometimes helpful - okay, there is no voiced hatred against me here, and that is sort of nice. Why I'm writing? Mostly to stay sane.

Or a lot of times in my case, "I don't get why it's so hard, just make something up." haha Yes, staying sane - I didn't realize until recently how much my sanity and overall happiness depends on writing. Maybe a bit too much, but it's been a lifelong thing and I don't think I can change it!
I joined originally because I was kind of looking for information on composing a query letter for a manuscript I had written/I like to engage in forums, anyways. I got some okay help with the query and while I eventually managed to get a working query, I kind of stopped posting or coming here after that. Now I'm back into writing and I like to have something dumb onhand like a forum or something so that I can keep my brain involved in some kind of critical thinking (i.e., not just spacing out looking at youtube or something) while I'm working. So I recently returned.
I came here to find out if something I thought might be a big deal was a big deal, and it kind of was. I stuck around and found that there were some hella cool folks to bounce ideas off of, get inspiration from and just enjoy engaging in conversation with. I've found great sources of expertise and even a couple of new betas.
In my case, it should be obvious. Writers are nuts. I'm a squirrel. Squirrels like nuts. I'm here because this is where the nuts writers are.
Thanks, all, for these great replies. It's interesting that many of you aren't necessarily interested in eventual publication, which was my initial goal, but now I'm thinking, do I need that? Because yes, this is a great site just to connect with people passionate about writing, or just passionate!
