Why do you write? for my spare time as a hobby, I hope to get my work published some day

What Made you decide you liked to write? When I finished my work and read it over

What Do You Write? Anything that comes to my mind, I think I have a pretty broad genre I like to write

Why do you write? I think this is the same as the above question, so I will start here. I write essentially for two reasons. One, because I enjoy it as a hobby and as a creative outlet. Two, because I want to improve my own writing.
What do you write? This question makes more sense here, really. I primarily write science fiction and fantasy. However, when an idea strikes me I sometimes write outside those genres as well.
What makes you write what you write? I like to write fantasy and science fiction because there is the most room for freedom of expression in those genres. Honestly, when I'm not writing for fun or for practice I like to write to convey a message. Oftentimes a subtley political message too ;)
What made you decide you liked to write? I don't know, I've just been obsessed with writing since I was in elementary school. Pretty much since I was old enough to hold a pencil and use it well, actually. Although I do hope I've improved a bit since then!

    Why I write . . .

What compells me to write is a nagging story - a thought, a story line, a feeling suddenly turns into a story like a movie in my head and won't leave until a very irritating long time, or I finally get it written out

I write because it is a release. I write because it makes me happy. There is some satisfaction in the joining of these words and being able to engender, emotion or entertainment in someone else. I also write in the fanciful thought that maybe, just maybe, eventually, I may be good enough to make some money at it . . . probably not a living, but some money - that would be an accomplishment!

I decided I liked to write because I liked what came out when I finally at 30 years old tried it it. I never really wrote when I was younger, or in college or anything. Then a story emerged while I was listening to a speaker and it came to life in my mind and would not stop pestering me until I finished - that is now about 25-35000 words of a story that still needs a lot of finishing. I enjoy the feeling, the accomplishment and get satisfaction from my own writing, regardless others opinions (which, gratefully, so far have been fairly positive).

I write fiction - mainly the beginnings of a novel and am trying to gain some skill through attempts at scenes and short stories. I also write opinion columns that mostly no-one but my wife gets to read.

I left out a question, but I think it is adequately answered in the responses to the other questions.

I started creative writing at the age of 12 and continued from there. It's always been a thrill. I write because it's fun! You get to create, share and glean some feedback from others. I love finding out that I have something in common with someone I don't know. I like being unique, but I hate feeling alone because of it.

I don't stick to one genre. It's more fun to jump around. But I always try to empart a 'lesson' or 'moral' in what I do write.

I've been writing ever since I was six years old with the first friend I ever had. She'd been writing before I had, and I still dont really know why she ever picked up a pen, but I did because she influenced me.

Even though I dont truly know the origins of why I write, I write because it has always been a natural part of me. I know why I continue, however, and that is because I feel my happiest when I do so; I feel like I'm learning something --either about myself, a certain subject my story deals with (I've had to learn about herbs as well as the intricate workings of the judical system, etc), or just how people behave both inter- and intrapersonally. I feel like I have a more comprehensive understanding of the world and how it works because of my writing. No matter if it's a memoir or a postapocalyptic fictional piece, I'm learning something about something.

I write because I learn from it, and I learn because I write about it; I love it.

I'm a questioner. Incessant. I'm always dreaming up alternate endings. I always question what someone else is thinking, or how things would have played out if a minute detail had been changed, et cetera. I satisfy my curiousity by writing it out. Otherwise, I'd be further gone than I am presently. ;)

Furthermore, I write because it is a therapy for me. When I'm angry, I can easily channel it into a scene --or I can escape from the real world by writing something completely opposite from my feelings, and I am therefore able to abandon them, at least for a short time. I suppose it's a form of escapism.

    What compels you to write?

I want to help myself and others better understand the lunacy of life. And what better way than to write stories with universally familiar themes?

    Why do you write?

Because I can; because finishing a well-crafted story is a great personal achievement, no matter how small or long or complicated the story.

What makes you write what you write?

I see something or someone or some place that looks tragic, compelling, looks like it represents something much larger than itself, I feel like I have to write about it, share with whoever will read.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I grew up loving the idea of writing words. It was not up to the teacher, or your parents - you wrote what you wanted! It is not math, there is no formula. A story is never perfect, there is always one word that could change, there are always things to improve and embellish. That makes writing an incredibly frightening hobby, which makes it all the more rewarding. Everyone can figure out 2+2, but not everyone can handle such a subjective thing as writing.

    What Do You Write?

    Stories for humans!

    What compels you to write?

I want to tell good stories. I've always been a creative person, and writing is simply the best outlet of all of them to express what I want to express. I like good literature and I appreciate art in general. My goal in writing is to tell stories that will be remembered forever.

    Why do you write?

I write because I am good at it, and because finishing a story, for me, is like an athlete completing a big game, or a painter finishing his masterwork, or a construction worker standing and staring proudly at a finished building.

What makes you write what you write?

I get an idea from some abstract source, some quote or some scene perhaps, and then I expand upon it to create something weird, touching or fantastic.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

It's kind of blurry now...but I remember being in about 6th grade, age twelve or so, and wanting to draw for a living. I figured out I just couldn't do it as well as I could write, and so I changed gears. There was probably a lot more involved, but I don't remember, it was so long ago. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

    What Do You Write?

I write good stories that will appeal to a large variety of people who enjoy creative literature. I'm practicing at writing horror, romance, comedy, et cetera. Almost anything you can think of.

Absolutely NOTHING! I didn't start writin' until my Mum started ignoring me. I would come to her and verbally express all of my ideas, and, basically, they went in one ear and out the other. So, she, wanting me to STFU, told me to write it down. VOILA! I started writin'! :-D

I get idea, after idea, after idea. I find myself over whelmed if I don't, somehow, express it. I find writing it is the best because then I can share it, and it also offers me a chance to get a career going. Lastly, it allows me to express the rapid flow of ideas I get at the pace required.

Personal experience. Stuff that I have experienced has influenced my writing and ideas in unexplainable ways, the same way the Death of nearly everyone around Edgar Allen Poe influenced HIS dark and disturbing writing.

I don't know. My mum told me to write, and I started writing. Never stopped. I had thought about doing other things, such as filming, but that would of taken too long for me to express every single one of my strange ideas.

Short stories. What I like to achieve is this sense of epicness; of something bigger than the story actually tells. This is why I stick to short stories; I don't want to trully express the bigness of the unerlying plot, but rather leave such things to the imagination of the reader. I feel, from what I've read, that it makes a much more positive reading experience.
Beyond epic, I like to write things in a sci-fi setting, that base around either darkness/depression, or zombies... I'm a zombie fan, yes...
Everything else I write is mumbo-jumbo that pops into my head, and will, probably, never get touched again!

I've noticed, from both the people I hang out with and those in forums and such as this, that people tend to pick up the habit of writing around eleven to fourteen. I started writing at Eleven, and though it was only because my Mum got tired of my yapper, who is to say that I wouldn't of started anyways?
But, yea, I just find that interesting. :p

Why do you write? I just love it, I love thinking what could happen, and making it real on paper.

    What compels you to write?

So many different things. A conversation with someone, the view outside my window, dumb things which most people might overlook, but for some reason I find them amazing...basically anything.

    Why do you write?

I like words. I like the way they fit together, and all their different meanings. I find language pretty fascinating and I like playing around with it

What makes you write what you write?

A lot of my writing is dictated by my emotions. If I'm feeling down, chances are the bit of prose I write will be depressing. Likewise, whatever I write when I'm happy is bound to be something full of laughter and light.
Also I like exploring different situations, and fantasy/sci-fi stuff. How would I react if I suddenly found somebody who I could not ever live without? What would happen if the world around me became the most dangerous place ever? I write what I write in order to answer all the dumb questions and thoughts I have flying around in my head...

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I've read forever, and, as above, the whole language thing amazes me. I started writing stories when I was at first school, and it's just gone on from there.
Also, I think I'm alright at it. I have friends who can draw, or sing, or play an instrument beautifully, and I can't. It's something which makes me feel less worthless.

    What Do You Write?

Whatever is in my head. Odd bits of prose, or full storylines. I'm pretty good at romances, and I like doing sci-fi, fantasy and drama.

I am compelled to write by the massive amount of ideas floating around in my head at any give time. Things which enable this compulsion include my laptop, nice pens, and my cordless keyboard.

I write because my mother before me wrote, and she encouraged me to read many, many books over my lifetime.

I write fantasy/hero sagas because that's what I read, that's how I'd rather live, and that's what I'm good at. I write Religious Humor because it's a way of griping about my religion's backwards view without gaining an angry mob behind me. I write about Arthurian tales and Mythical creatures, because those are the types of stories I'm most likely to read.

I never really decided I liked to write, I simply realized one day that I can no longer shove my ability to the back burner because it's become something that I enjoy doing more than many other things.

I am a writer of fantasy. My fantasy spans several genres including romance, Arthurian tales, Science Fiction, Religious Humor, and Mythical Creatures.

What compells you to write: Nothing, actually. I haven't written in a while. When I DO write, it's usually because something got me interested, like, for example, a contest.

Why do you write? Because it's fun, and I want to create 'that' story; the one no one else has.

What makes you write what you write? It's what I'm interested in.

What Made you decide you liked to write? Writing.

What Do You Write? I write fantasy. Good ole fantasy.

    What compells you to write?

Self-appointed duty, there aren't better words to describe it. I must do something to improve the world I live in, even if only the tiniest bit. If someone out there becomes a better person from reading my book, even if it's only one reader and the change is minimal, then I will die a happy man.

    Why do you write?

Because I must, because it makes me happy, because my existence wouldn't be the same if I couldn't. Because I need it. Because I can. So many answers, and yet still not enough.

What makes you write what you write?

An inability to allow great things to become lost in the unforgiving sands of time.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

Can't really remember. I suppose it was the fact that I was creating something that would endure time itself, that would still exist even after I was gone. Not to mention the fact that it was a highly pleasurable activity that seemed to come naturally to me, and it was the only viable outlet for my overactive imagination.

    What Do You Write?

Currently? Fantasy. I've also written Mystery, Horror and Suspense. And something that might qualify as either Action or Adventure. Though usually it's a mishmash of them all.

I have stories stuck in my head, always running round and round. Took me a little while but putting them down on paper seems to get the stories to quiet down at least until another takes the place of one that i've just got out. If I didn't write I have no idea what I would do with my life. For so long its been apart of who I am to not write would be like not breathing. Might as well sit in a corner and stare into space for all the good it would do to deny the one real talent I have. I like to write about romance and usually have that twist of fantasy in it.

Enjoyment, the desire for immortality, and the need to challenge soceital institutions compell me to write. I want to make my way through life writing. It will be difficult, especially with the way the economy is now. However, I refuse to submit to some other person's suggestions or will. My life is mine and I have chosen to write. I find writing fascinating. I am also good at writing. I also believe that more people should write about the state of the world and how many, many things could be improved. The best way to do this is to wrap up the desired social message(s) as a well-crafted plot with interesting characters.

I write because I am compelled.

I guess I already answered this question in the first part. I see many flaws with soceity, and I want people to read about them, think about them, and maybe do something about them, while at the same time enjoying a good book or short story. Maybe some day I'll even write a poem. I also write magical realism, dark fantasy, sword and sorcery, and occult fiction. I write these genres because I grew up playing video games, especially role playing games. If it wasn't for computer games, I would not have ever decided to write. I am also into metaphysics.

I guess I just answered the last two questions in the above paragraph.

    What compels you to write?

The ability to put what is inside my head onto paper and be amazed at it all.

    Why do you write?

I'm not going to lie. Deep down I think it's the chance that I could become famous. On other levels I want to be able to open up a file and scroll down to see hundreds of pages, tens of thousands of words, all mine, representatives of my imagination. I get excited just looking at scanned manuscripts of Kavka.

What makes you write what you write?

Usually a fascination with a writer will move me to write like that writer, write about the subjects that writer writes about. I guess something about an author's words makes something click in my mind, and I want to replicate that same feeling within my own work.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

Reading. I see reading and writing as two sides of one coin. Like one, like the other. For some it doesn't work that way, but I can't understand that. =\

    What Do You Write?

Who knows. What I see inside my head comes out completely different on paper. What I write isn't what I write.

    Just a Question

What made you start writing? Also What keeps you writing?

I know what gets me to write and why I started but I have always wondered what its like for other writers.

Hope no one minds my asking

    What compells you to write?
Because its fun! Nothing better than making a character you've made up doing something you find totally cool

    Why do you write?
I like doing fun things. It's also a challenge to improve myself

What makes you write what you write?
The desire to see a certain character do a certain thing in a certain place. I'll have an idea then think, that would be awesome, and write it down.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I always did like to write, just too afraid to do it regularly

    What Do You Write?
    Action/adventure, Sci-fi, reflective essays.

    1. What compells you to write?

I think it's just a desire to express my perspectives. I really get an urge to write after reading different writing styles by other authors. I like to experiment with essays, articles, novels, all that stuff.

    2.Why do you write?

It comes from an emotional pull. For a lot of years, I denied the natural talent I have for writing because I was stubborn. I write because it fills a need I guess.

3.What makes you write what you write?

My creativity helps me a lot I suppose. I don't really know how to answer this question lol.

4.What Made you decide you liked to write?

A lot of people in my life have told me that my writing is interesting and they've encouraged me to continue doing more. I finally just learned to embrace it lol.

    5.What Do You Write?

    Nonfiction essays and fantasy novels.
