Writing is a form of freedom for me. I can make anything happen at anytime without being bound.

I wrote whenever I felt like it; my lack of dedication ensured I rarely did.

Essentially, flashes of insight compels me to write; there is never a better time to use these rare moments of clarity, motivation, and cunning to paraphrase thoughts in the best way possible.

Currently, what compels me to write is discipline. If I write only when I'm in the mood, I'll never make progress; the key is to prioritize the hobby, even when you'd rather be doing something else. I say to myself, I can always play playstation or search the internet; those are red herrings.

It is not good enough to say that I write because I can. It is also not enough to say I write because I have something to say and that it is different from what others have said before. The truth is, if I don't write, I am a slave to that nagging voice in the back of my head that tugs at my purpose like a heroin addiction.

Writing feels good, which is why I like to do it. It is also frustrating, but no different than the short-term pain of long-term progress.

Right now, I like writing fantasy. My influences are japanese manga, animation, and role-playing games.

    Dan.

I write because I need to get it all the ideas out. I'm thinking about my story 24/7.

I have to write, the freedom, my charcaters so real, they can't be put into bondage because I decided that day that I don't want to write. To know that I have accomplished something. To know that my words, thoughts, mind and soul are worth something. It gets rids of my panic attacks. My mind races always and if i don't let it out I go crazy. I love to write, wanting to see what happens next. I write because of things that are happening in my life that are real. I feel them.

What compells you to write? Things live in my head. Sometimes they talk to me. Sometimes they force my hand and I write.
Why do you write? Because I can't paint or draw, even though I would like to.
What makes you write what you write? I write about things I read. Sometimes I read a book, or story, some article maybe, and I get ideas. Usually it's loosely related to the subject. Probably because it was interesting enough to read about to begin with.
What Made you decide you liked to write? Once a long time ago, I wrote a small poem, it was kind of depressing I guess. I feel down sometimes. Anyways, it scared people into thinking I was suicidal. You know kind of like the good bye note. I figured it was a helluva thing to be able to affect people so profoundly with a few lines of text.
What Do You Write? Poems, stories. I am dreadfully afraid to start a novel. Even though I have an idea bouncing around trying to break free.

    Nothing.
And there are plenty of things trying to compel me NOT to write.
    Therein lies the challenge.

I have to make the time to write, despite the lack of anyone or anything compelling it.

    Because I want to.

    I make myself do it.

One doesn't decide what they like.
They experience it, and then they like the experience.

It's like asking what made you decide you liked chocolate.

    There's no decision involved.
One experiences it, and either likes the experience, or does not.

    Working on my first novel.

I also write lay-sermons, plays, skits, etc. for my Unitarian Universalist church, various letters to the editor, e-mails.

    What compels you to write?
An unnerving sense of the ridiculousness the human condition exists in.

    Why do you write?
Sometimes because it pays the bills, sometimes because there is so much going on in my head and writing is a good way to let that out. Mostly, however, because if I didn't I would no longer be who I am.

What makes you write what you write?
The love of a specific genre or the humor of the situation.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I wrote my first book when I was only 15. It wasn't very good but it allowed me to express myself in a way that I had never done before. Through characters I could explore attitudes and parts of my life that were otherwise cut off from me.

    What Do You Write?
Comedy mostly. I like the one hour TV format though so I am currently writing a sci-fi thing that will fit in to that.

    What compells you to write?
Mostly for expression. It's hard to express emotions and feelings in just words-you have to mould and craft those words into a story to truly communicatie what goes in your noggin, imo.

    Why do you write?
Honestly? Sometimes, boredom. But I like to do it because it really exercises the creative part of my brain. Plus, I love improving my skills and hope to get a book published one day.

What makes you write what you write?
The daily events in my life really affect what I write. I'm also easily influenced by books that I love, and the movies I watch, sometimes. I like to borrow concepts and ideas from more abstract novels and combine them while adding a touch of my own ideas to create something new and exciting.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
Not sure, since I've been writing since I was a kid. I used to love reading those Goosebumps stories though, and I wanted to make stories like that. I seem to recall reading an article as a kid about authors who got their books published as teenagers and always thought, "I want that to be me."

    What Do You Write?
Mostly really abstract stuff. I like to make readers think in different ways rather than the typical stuff. I know I've succeeded if people are confused, which sounds dumb, but it's true, because that means they're forced to think in new ways, which can create all sorts of possibilities.

What compells you to write? A mixture of madness and a need to vent creative energies
Why do you write? To impress the ladies of course.
What makes you write what you write? I have no idea; it just happens.
What Made you decide you liked to write? I was good at it, received compliments, and those made me feel good. Positive reenforcement on the most basic of levels.
What Do You Write? Apparently stories about humanity, on one level or another.

My hopes and dreams, my ideas and experiences, my life compels me to write.

I write because it gives me a way to express myself in a way I may not otherwise be able.

The many thoughts that charge their way through my head and my desire to share those thoughts in a creative way is what makes me want to write.

I write whatever comes to mind.

What compells you to write? A very sick compulsion deep down in my stomach that nags and nags until I write.

Why do you write? Because I want to be rich and famous. Ha! Not. Well, I would LIKE to be rich and famous, but I am realistic about what a writing career can achieve in that department. I write because it's hypnotic. Because I get praise from others and it makes me feel good. Because I get high when I pump out a great story.

What makes you write what you write? I have no clue. I write what I would enjoy reading, although I can't say I've read many books in my own personal style. I want to be entertained by what I am writing as much as entertain those who will read it.

What Made you decide you liked to write? I was about six and my grandfather had an old fashioned typewriter in his basement. One day I sat down at it and began typing a story. I didn't even know how to use the shift key so the first letter of each sentence was not even capitalized. The story was about two pages long and it took me a good 8 hours to write (I don't think I have ever been as dedicated as then). It was a love story about monsters. I read it out loud to my family at dinner. They laughed while I read it and I remember being confused because it wasn't supposed to be a comedy. It was a serious story. But anyways, from that day on I knew I wanted to entertain people with my stories (as opposed to specifically being a writer).

What Do You Write? I write suspense novels.

Truth be known, I am not good at anything but writing. I have problems in every job where I work, mainly because I daydream all day about the stories I'd like to write. Only when I'm writing am I truly blissful. I like characters (even the evil ones) in my book way more than real people in my life - EXCEPT other writers. Which is sad, I know. But oh well, c'est moi.

You have no idea how much of that is true that is...

Damm Aurora, shes quite irratating at times and to be truthfuly honest shes the only reason i started writing, Ironically the more i tell her tale the quieter she gets... Am honestly not sure if thats a good thing or not...
Don't take me for some physco, theres no, BURN THEM shouting in my ear and shes only talks if i initiate the conversation, well most of the time

What makes you write what you write?
That was sort of summed up above and she won't stop bugging me...

I honestly didn't untill i started. Average B in english, uncontrollable imagination, well i at least tell that to myself.

Well I can't really answer that, not just yet, although so far, efforts to understand the human nature in a fantasy setting, We are dressed, structured, polite and yet leave us alone, uninfluenced we become what we are really destined to be, mans plight to be free...

wow I really like this site

    What compells you to write?
    Life.

    Why do you write?
There are stories that need to be told.

What makes you write what you write?

I am trying to make sense of things I guess.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I didn't think there was a decision process involved, it just was something I did and liked.

    What Do You Write?

I've written in many genres, horror, mainstream...etc. I used to write a lot of poetry too. I suppose I can write a story in any genre, but I am most comfortable in mainstream and horror.

    What compells you to write?
Nothing really compels me to write, I just enjoy the satisfaction, and the fact that I can create my own little world, or rather, many different worlds of my own.
    Why do you write?
Ever since I was little, I was making stories about my stuffed animals and things, and at that age everyone praised me, saying that my language and vocabulary was stellar. As far back as I can remember, I've been writing stories.

What makes you write what you write?

Dreams, ideas. French class. Ideas just pop out of nowhere, and I think, 'Hey, that'd be fun to write.' or 'Oh, that's a great idea!', and then I do it. It's just that simple.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I don't know how I can remember this, but when I was little, like, two or three years old, max, I saw Alice In Wonderland, and I loved the song 'In A World Of My Own'. I knew from then on that I wanted to fabricate worlds of my own, where nothing was what it should be, and the boundaries could be pushed beyond compare! I got sucked into writing then, and I'm glad to say I've greatly improved since then. =P

    What Do You Write?

Nearly everything. Novels, Short Stories, Poetry, Vignettes.. As for the Genre, it varies. It depends on my mood, and whether I feel like it or not. Sometimes I'll randomly write up a historical romance novel, or maybe a fantastical story about fairies. I don't confine myself to the boundaries of a single particular genre. That'd be too boring. ;)

    What compels you to write?

Originally, I just wanted to write, as infilling out an application or doing homework, just feeling my hand in motion. I didn't have an application or homework, so I wrote a story. Now I like to read, and I want to contribute to books and everything, so I write. :D

    Why do you write?

I went through depression, and what helped me out was writing a happy-go-lucky story about two kids that get transplanted into a fantasy land (where the girl falls in love with a troubled wizard, of course). Since then I've been shy and have trouble warming up to people, but with stories I can forget about that and creative worlds and lives that I can get involved in without feeling insecure or out of place.

What makes you write what you write?

I've been into fantasy lately, but not elves, unicorns, and good vs. evil (although I like those!), and that steams from depression. I've been thinking of a SciFi involving time. I've always been intrigued by time (I would explain further but then I'd get distracted from answering the question, haha). The genres I'm interested will probably change later in life (two years ago I primarily read teen romance novels, when now I don't want anything to do with romance). I think I'll always like SciFi and fantasy. I did as I kid.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I read Catch-22, and learning about why Heller would write the book was so inspirational for me. Until then I thought writing was just creating a story and having fun with it, but art is such an amazing thing. Heller took a bad experience, satirized it, and now it's an American classic! Acting, theater, and films can capture an even greater demonstration of life. Picasso went through his blue period. I was an art gallery, and there was this one with probably thousands of piece of wood hanging from the ceiling to form a cube. I read the little description, and the wood were the remnants of a black baptist church that was burned down by white supremacists. My goal in writing is to change someone like that. Write something so thought provoking that people can't look at life the same way anymore.

    What Do You Write?

I like showing raw human emotion. Whether it's angst or romance. But I'll never touch horror, as least not gory horror. Psychological is a possibility. As long as it shows the journey a character took that shaped the person they would become to be, I'll write it. But I also LOVE comedy. Whatever I write would be depressing as hell, but it'll still have comedy.

    What compells me to write??
I don't know. What compells a sailor to sail, or a teacher to teach? It is just what comes most naturally to me. I love life, and I want to share that. I love being inspired, and being inspiring.

    Why do you write?
I write to make people feel: I want them to laugh and to weep and to smile and to think. I want them to come away from my writing and think the world is just a bit brighter.

What makes you want to write?
Simple: If I kept all of my feelings and ideas to myself I would explode.

What made you decide to write?
    Life did.

    What do you write?
All kinds of genres. Generally things that people have no interest in!
    (I hate horror though)

    What compells you to write?
    - Something inside me that has its own need to be said. Or a person who just grows inside me and becomes their own.

    Why do you write?
    - I've always been quiet, independent and a bit reclusive. I talk quickly but never get things out they way i intend. I've always writte because its easier. Easier to get the message across without plain conversation. Without looking anyone in the face. Plus it takes me away...

What makes you write what you write?
    - It's who I am. I write darker things, with weird characters against the conformity because that's what I believe in. I may have different morals, so I write about those. I may write what I feel a lack of. I may write what I ca never find in the library!

What Made you decide you liked to write?
    - I've written from a young age. Like, private fantasies, my feelings, plus I always enjoyed English. English Lit and Lang were my best GCSE grades and I loved the exams in class and formally where I had to make something up. Usually based around a character I liked that often just appears out of supposedly nowhere. Was only in college during the "Writing For TV" unit, where I did well and got praise, that I realised (plus older now) that this may be the only thing I could ever truly fit into.

    What Do You Write?
    - Character stories. I have a real problem with storylines and plotting, because everything so far is based on a character, but without plot, i cant seem to develop characters FULLY. Usually things about unlikely relationships, unromantic love stories, real, sceptical, but unusual, or so I hope! In time at least xD

What compells you to write? I have a talent for both writing and history. I know that not many Gaels around the world know the truth about our history, and I know that those who do aren't likely to be writers who are willing to teach about history and Gaelic society and culture in a fiction book. So I decided to step in, and that book is still in progress...

Why do you write? I feel that it is my duty, really. I can't put it any simpler than that. Too many want it done, but too few will do it.

What makes you write what you write? Passion, loyalty, and complete disrespect for the attempts of a cheap government to destroy their own cultural heritage.

What Made you decide you liked to write? Imagining what it would be like to actually meet a Lord of the Isles, I put one in my story, and did the best I could at giving him his personality back from what I knew of him from the historical books and spoken stories. The result was fascinating, so I built a story around him...that's how the book actually started. That's how my passion for writing started.

What Do You Write? Fiction with a bit of everything, mostly politics and war, and a lot of attention to detail and historical accuracy.

    What compells you to write?
Usually whenever I get an idea that I think is really awesome; sometimes I just get a random moment where I write things down as well.

    Why do you write?
Mainly to get my thoughts and feelings out of my system.

What makes you write what you write?
Motivation, great ideas/thoughts, boredom. . . Probably other things as well.

What made you decide you liked to write?
I started writing plays when I was a kid (though they were copied from favorite movies, games, etc. and just put into a playwright format). Then I got into fanfiction. After that I started writing poetry, followed by fiction. Nowadays, I prefer to write poetry and fiction.

    What do you write?
Poetry and fiction, about a variety of different topics. I'm pretty big on the horror genre. I tend to write a lot of depressing stuff, though I sometimes will write things centered around the theme of "carpe diem" (or "seize the day").

    What compells you to write?
It depends on my mood. If I just want to escape my crazy loud day, I'll write to zone myself out of it. Sometimes I write for theraputic reasons and sometimes I write because something or someone has inspires me.

Why do you write? If I'm depressed, I write to sooth myself. If I want the world to understand my point of view, then I will write something that hopefully inspire's and persuade them. Somtimes I write becuse I feel like I have to get something out and at times it's even a way for me to vent.

What makes you write what you write? My deeply held passions and convictions are at the core of what I write. My Faith is the fuel and my words just the mere vehicle.

What Made you decide you liked to write? I only started to like writing after I started to actually get a little good at it. It took years to get there though...

    What Do You Write?
I write Poetry, non-fiction and childrens books.
