    1. What compels you to write?
Well... I took quite a liking to it when I was younger, and since then I've been inspired to be a writer. And that's mostly it; Inspiration. I have to do something with all these plots floating around in my head, haha.
    2. Why do you write?
Well, like the above reason, mostly inspiration. Since I was young I've wanted to publish a book, but for now I have one goal; To have a published anything before I get into college.
    3. What makes you write what you write?
Hm... I've always had a specific way of thinking about things, many of which are different from others. For the most part, I just enjoy writing it; Fiction is my main domain of writing.
    4. What Made you decide you liked to write?
Fourth grade writing contest. I discovered that I was more advanced than the other kids when it came to English/Language Arts, so I decided to enter a contest. I won, and to my surprise, I found out I had quite the fun time writing. I hadn't written anything too big prior to this.
    5. What Do You Write?
Mostly things of the fiction genre. Most of the time, I'll have action/adventure and drama, maybe a little bit of romance and comedy in the stories, too.

My experiences compel me to write... Just witnessing the world and the people in it, particularly their actions. How can you be a part of the world and not have something to say about it, to write about it? I suppose that's also why I write, and because I feel I have something important to tell, not just to readers, but to myself as well. Weird as it might sound, writing helps me understand, and I need that. I think most writers have had it in their blood to write for as long as they can remember- I know I have. It's just enjoyable. Relieves stress as well (for me, at least). I'm indiscriminate- I'll write anything if I'm inspired (though that doesn't mean it'll be good).

I have the bad habit of procrastinating on my work until just the right moment... when I'm feeling what I'm writing. I'm assuming this is what forces me to write, this way to deal with my problems, write them on paper, and see how I can evolve this into some moral that I can incorporate into my own life.

I've been writing like I wanted to be an actual writer in grade 3, where I pretty much would be inspired by the books I read. Eventually my heart fell with movies and I dreamed of being a screenwriter, but I figured my odds would be a bit higher going into a degree where I can still make a decent living, so I chose English... at least I still get to write, right?

The cash, the girls, the fancy cars, and huge mansions compel me to write. I might not be the only one ;) oh, and I guess it's pretty fun.

There are some observations of human nature that I feel obligated to record, and then share with everyone. I know, kind of vainglorious, but it keeps me confident and creative. To ensure that the messaged is conveyed as elegantly as possible, I have to practice; thus I constantly write.

Like I said above, I write what I write because it feels like some things are too good not to share.

I write in my journal every night, and one day I started to drift into writing an epic(imo) story. It was a lot of fun, and the time flew by; what I thought was a normal period of journal writing was actually a couple of hours.

I currently write a lot of aphorisms, and noob philosophy lol. I'm also working on a fictional novel.

I write as a method of self discovery. By writing I learn what I truly think about things. My true reaction to the things that go in and out of my life that may not be regarded as important at the time they occur. Writing jars my memories of things that happened in the past that I'd forgotten. Good things and bad.

But my life has been full and I wish to recall every moment of it..writing helps me do this.

I have no aspirations of ever publishing anything. I write for me.

I write because I love losing myself in stories. Writing gives me the chance to lose myself in a story of my own making. Hopefully, one day, I'll write something good enough that other people lose themselves in it too.

    Why do I Write

    What compells me to write?
I am compelled to write because I have the need to express myself on paper in whatever form that may be. Be it the written or typed form or by the stroke of a brush onto a bare canvas.
    Why do I write?
I write because it brings me peace and serenity and the feeling of accomplishment.
What makes me want to write?
I enjoy the pleasure of expressing my thoughts and having someone else enjoy the thought that I had at the time.
What made me decide to write?
I decided to write because someone told me that I should let others enjoy what I write.
    What did I write?
I wrote a story for a contest about the day my son died of S.I.D.S. and the experience i went through that day. It was a story from my heart and was good to get it onto paper for others to see and read about.

    What compells you to write?
I started writing because my therapist suggested in, I began writing little snippets about my deployments and what it was like to return home from Afghanistan.

    Why do you write?
I write short stories, some are true and some are very outlandish, if anyone has ever read outliers by Malcom Gladwell, he suggests that to be truly skilled at something that 10,000 hours is indeed helpful. I feel that each piece I write helps me learn more and practice the art just a little more.

What makes you write what you write?
Depending on what I am writing, sometimes I need to recall events and describe them to the fullest detail I can. Believe it or not it helps for some horrific events. I also write stories for my friends, they like to read about some outlandish adventures they could get up to so I always have their encouragement to continue their adventures.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I think it helps that I feel like an outsider sometimes, that I can observe certain events from a distance, when I returned from deployment I had felt disconnected from the world and sometimes it felt as though I really wasnt interacting. My therapist and friends give me great encouragement and as cliche as it sounds, it is an outlet.

    What Do You Write?
I write general fiction and specifically thriller or mystery. I plan at trying my hand at all genre's. I do write non-fiction sometimes but they can get a bit more personal at times.

I write as part of an overall self expression. Although it would be nice to sell my works an make millions that is not as important as using my imagination.

A few years ago, I became acutely aware of something that, I suppose had been going on all my life. But only a few years ago it surfaced into my consciousness.

The something was that I was continually writing these little snippets about just about anything and everything. I was always conjuring up dialogs between characters that I'd invented, visualizing scenes, situations etc. One night I was having a hard time getting to sleep...this 'story' kept running through my head, I was in sort of a dream state but the images and dialogs were crystal clear. I was seemingly in the story, but not part of the story. The next morning I awoke with a driving need to jot down the entire scenario, as best as I could remember. About 5000 words later, exhausted mentally, I'd recreated the surreal world I'd created the night before. I read and reread, did some editing then printed it out.

I carried the story around with me for months, never showing it to anyone, rereading it countless times, doing a little edit here and a little edit there. Then one day I was having lunch with a client, I'm a graphic designer and I had some comps to go over with this client that I knew well. A client whom I respected and I believed would give me a fair, honest assessment of my 'manuscript' of the short story. I asked her to read it and give me an opinion of it.

Her critique was very positive. She asked if she could show it to a magazine editor friend of hers to read. If course I agreed. The editor loved the story and asked if he could publish it. I agreed again. It was a small regional magazine. Exposure was limited, but I was asked to write more for it, which I declined. I'm a designer, and I was quite busy and didn't have the time to devote to being a fledgling author.

I have, however, continued to write. It's therapeutic for me and quite entertaining. Not serious though, although my family wants me to pursue writing, which I may in the near future. I'm about to retire and it will provide a way to keep the old creative juices flowing and possibly provide a modest income while I wile away my 'golden years'.

I write for myself only. I never would have sent anything in to be published if it hadn't been for people pressuring me.

    What compels you to write?
    My soul.

    Why do you write?
To let a part of myself out of its cage in the hopes that someday I can connect with someone who gets it, gets me.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
    Three reasons:
    1. It's the only thing that feels absolutely right when I'm doing it.
    2. I'm really good at it. (Not meaning to sound conceited because I'm far from that, but of all things I know how to do, writing is the thing I do best).
    3. I love to connect with other people through my writing. If I write something funny and someone laughs, I'm content. If I write something technical in such a way that a non-techie can actually understand it, I'm content.

    What do you write?
I've written help manuals, policies and procedures, FAQ's, etc etc etc for the various companies I've worked for over the years.

Now, I'm writing my first novel. It's a fantasy so who knows if it will ever see the light of day but I'm finally doing something I've been wanting to do for almost 30 years and the simple act of doing it, of getting this story out on paper, is every bit as fulfilling (and frustrating) as I thought it would be.

    What compells you to write?
Dunno. Its like I have an idea, I let the idea grow and expand, and eventually with enough TLC, it beocmes a story.

    Why do you write?
Same reason I breath. Because I'd die otherwise.

What makes you write what you write?
Somehting I saw, heard or smelt. Anything really.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

When I realised how much joy it gave people to read my stories/poems.

    What Do You Write?
I'm trying different styles. I'm not quite sure. C:

What compells you to write? Well... it's a compulsion. Sometimes I just get the urge to do it! If I don't I feel like I've missed a really good thing.

Why do you write? I don't know any more. I've been doing it so long I've forgotten the answer to that question.

What makes you write what you write? At present most of my writing and art is coming about from missing people. I've never written for the purpose of dealing with strong emotions but it is currently the only outlet that is producing alleviation.

What Made you decide you liked to write? The fact that I like to write? I mean I wouldn't do it if I hated it right? :p

What Do You Write? At present depressing lyrics/poetry, something I'm not particularly good at (the poetry and lyrics that is).

What compells you to write?: actually i have no real idea. it is something intangible and unidentifiable; it just compells.

Why do you write?: to keep me sane, to curb my impatience and violence, to let out my inner monsters without hurting the ones i love.

What makes you want to write?: it's the closest thing i could get to turning my mental images into reality

What made you decide to write?: in grade school english class, my teacher gave us a writing assignment, to write a short story and to write without restraints. i got an a+ for the assignment, and i liked the rush i got while writing what my mind saw.

What do you write?: mostly i write fantasy and poetry; they're my gateway out.

So you want to know what makes me write,
what has set me on this plight?
    I don't know, it's just what I do.
    If I didn't I'd just be blue.

It renews my soul to sit and write
Even when my words are trite
as in this poem before you now
    explaining why I write somehow.

    I'm compelled to rhyme and follow meter;
it's a pile upon which my words do teeter.
My themes are evoked by things all around me
sights and smells and what astounds me.

I've done this since my early years,
It was automatic, it allayed my fears.
Liking it was never a conscious decision.
I just like it, even when in revision.

So by now I guess you see,
    I like writing poetry.
In rhyming, open or blank verse
It just comes out, I don't rehearse.

Yes, I need help. I know I do,
That's partly why I come to you.
Though I love to write most all the time,
I'm aware it isn't all that good of rhyme.

I hope this poem hasn't made you mad
I certainly realize that it is bad.
But with your help I swear to you,
I will improve, it's just what I do.

I write because it is my artistic, witty, sarcastic way of letting my feelings out in a way that helps my audience know how I am feeling. I like to make a certain flow with my words. Its so odd, I cant sit with a paper and pen, but as soon as my fingers hit the keyboard, i transform into this poetic person with colorful sentences and tasty stories. It's almost like my other self.

I write because it makes me feel important, free, artistic, and intelligent. I write because people appreciate when a person is able to portray their feelings and the audience feel the way it was meant. I write because my sarcasm makes someone laugh more on paper than in person. I write because it is limitless. I"m able to put my words into anything I wish and be as passionate as I want.

I wrote and won my first poetry contest in second grade and have been writing ever since.

I dont have any certain type that I write, but I find that I have a very sarcastic tone in my writing. I love reading sarcastic novels as well.

    What compels you to write?
Well, right now, ritual compels me for the most part. I write a certain number of words per day. What that is depends, I guess. Sometimes I throw out a scene for fun. Sometimes I do writing exercises. Sometimes I work on a draft of a story. When the muse calls and I write more than my daily amount, it’s because . . . well . . . the muse calls and you listen. =)

    Why do you write?
Writing brings me immense satisfaction. There is nothing more glorious then when you have a story working for you and all things fall/click into place. The feeling is second to none.

I want to publish my work so that I can support myself doing what I love.
I want to exercise my imagination . . . always.

What makes you write what you write?
Ideas come from everywhere. For the most part, they begin with characters. The characters usually build the stories themselves. I try to think, “who is this character? What do they desperately want? What might stand in the way? What happens when I introduce another character that wants something and it goes against the main character? What if, what if what if…

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I wrote when I was younger to escape a fairly unhappy childhood/adolescence. Now I write because I love having the power to create my own worlds, my own situations.

    What Do You Write?
I’ve had the most success with genre (sci-fi and fantasy). I also love writing straight-up literary fiction. If it’s a good idea, genre makes no difference to me. What matters are the characters. Are they interesting?

To sum up, I’ll quote Tolstoy: “Art is the means of transferring emotion from one man’s heart to the other.”

I used to write whenever a strong surge of emotion comes to me - sadness, happiness, boredom. But now, I feel like I just have to write and let not the words slip away from me forever. Every single thought, emotion, situation is unique and will never be duplicated ever again and I feel the urge to keep track of them, immortalize them in papers.

I write to live. It has always been my life support system. It lets me keep track of myself and of the world I'm living in. It never failed to make me understand the greatest puzzle that is myself. Sounds cliched but that's just how it works for me.

I tried it. It was fun. What more can be said?

    What compells you to write?
I'm compelled to write when I get an idea that I think would be interesting. I get all excited about it and then I just absolutely have to put it into writing.

    Why do you write?

I want to see my thoughts and ideas on paper.

What makes you write what you write?
I'll have some creative idea that I think would make an interesting story.

What made you decide you liked to write?
I enjoy being creative and inventing stories and characters.

    What do you write?
I write whatever idea I have.

As a couple of people have said, I write because if I don't all the crazy thoughts that bounce around in my head and drive sanity from my mind. As a consequence, because my thoughts are so crazy, I don't really write anyting in particular. It turns out how it turns out. As Alice walker so wonderful stated, "I write to save my own life."

Embrace the difference. Try living the life of a revolutionary confederate soldier if only for an hour or two. Or an psychotic escapee, sexually frustrated teenage boy, lost trapper. That is the beauty of writing you can be anything, those who are really good can make a living by convincing others of their own delusions.

This has probably been said many times already but I write because I am. I can do more stop writing than I can stop having thoughts. I know I have tried. I became so frustrated with the chaotic nature of my mind that I attempted to give up writing, I think it lasted a day. My head became so full of ideas that I could not focus on anything else going on in my life. This makes me sound insane but I am sure there are many other people out there who feel the same way.

    At least I hope so.
