I like to write because it brings forth my imagination and gives me an opportunity to show others my ideas about fiction. I thought about giving up writing, to be honest, because I tend to lose interest in writing, maybe because there's no more room for improvement as a begning writer. The reason why I write is to give me something to do in my spare time whenever I am not doing anything. The pourpose of me writing is to explorer a new hobby. I always wrote when I was little, but I seem to lost that talent. The stuff I write comes out of my beliefs. In other words, whenever something can happen that never happend yet, I would write about it in a fictional matter. I write general fiction novels about spritual beings, like guardian angels and things that people might experience, which is beyond their reality.
What compels you to write? I write because I enjoy attempting to recreate what I daydream in a tangible form. If I want to make my dreams a reality I might as well first bring in to the physical world to make it happen. Why do you write? I write because it excites me. Creative writing is - for the most part - uncharted territory for me and writing gives me an outlet from the monotonous everyday crap of my life that I have no control over. I admit I do lose interest in writing often when life gets overwhelming, but I always come back to it without even trying to. What makes you write what you write? My daydreams and overactive imagination tend to be the real source of why I do anything in writing since my life is not really that exciting - to me at least, but that is the outlook of most people when they don't look closely enough I suppose. What Made you decide you liked to write? Realizing that I should love doing something in my life and not only just like doing something. What Do You Write? I like to write fiction and fantasy for the most part. I have several ideas for non-fiction, but I am not that excited about those as stories right now.
What compells you to write? I don't know...like a few others said here, I can't imagine not doing it. It's how I express myself. Why do you write? Mainly interest in my characters. More generally, I always have a story in my head and it would seem a waste not to express it. What made you decide you liked to write? I've done it since I was a child. Back when I started, I suppose it was a way to make sure I could communicate my stories with other people. The stories have gotten more complex, and I write more for my own interest than for an audience, but there's still the appeal of sharing my stories. That being said, I really only share them with family members as I'm somewhat afraid of criticism. What do you write? Mainly fantasy novels. What makes you write what you write? I like the fact that the fantasy genre doesn't impose boundaries on my imagination. I appreciate being able to focus the story on everyday, relatable issues and struggles and set them against a background where the stakes are raised far beyond what we face on a daily basis. (I like the focus on character in literary fiction, too....but it seems much more fun with dragons and epic battles, at least when I'm writing. )
What compells you to write? Sudden surges of inspiration that comes at the most inconvenient times. Like when I'm at work or late at night when I have to get up early the next day. Why do you write? I love to do it. I started because I wanted to be like my mother (who is an editor, so not really a writer, but she looked so cool typing on the computer), and I always loved making up stories, and decided to write them down. What makes you write what you write? Monsters is a long time interest of mine. Since I was a little kid I've loved reading about monsters (Goosebumps anyone?), and watching monster movies. What Made you decide you liked to write? Not sure. I think it's because I get a lot of my thoughts and feelings out on paper, and then they don't bother me as much as they would have if they stayed bottled up inside. What Do You Write? Monster stories mainly. Vampires, werewolves, swamp creatures, etc. Though I occasionally write more "normal" stories as well.
What compells you to write? Something calls me, whispers to me, controls me to pour my heart out on a piece of paper. Why do you write? I write because when I do it's almost like playing God. What makes you write what you write? I write what I write because it's fun to think with no rules, or no laws. What Made you decide you liked to write? The thing that makes me write are movies, books, shows, and video games. They allow my mind to feel like I'm a super secret agent, or a superhero. So when I'm in that state of mind I think...and ideas grow and compile in my head. What Do You Write? I like to write fantasy because it's fun. Rather than writing a story about some sad sap who loses everything, and then dies. WHO WOULD WANT TO READ THAT!? I would want to read a book with an amazing story of action, magic, and all sorts of EPIC.
Writing is an outlet to my creative urge...I write because i feel the desire to vent out all thai is in my mind and heart...all that i want to say/convey. Why do i write? Same reason i write because i feel like writing....i get this feeling to share my thoughts with others...to write down my thoughts of the moment on a paper and make it live even after that moment ends. What makes you write what you write? The inspiration makes me write what i write.. What made you decide you liked to write? Time and the passion within made me realize that i love to write...the urge to express my emotions and express them in a beautiful way made me realize that i love writing. What do you write? Poetry is something i like to write..
Why do I write? 1. I need to get some things off my chest 2. Because language is fun 3. I like to amuse myself. I figure if I like my stories, others may enjoy them as well. 4. I got a journal when I was 11 years old and began writing down things about the world I found interesting. I've embraced writing ever since. 5. Words. lots of them.
For the money. Writing is 99% blood, sweat, and tears, with the occasional moment of creative enlightenment. It's damned hard work, this writing. So I'm doing it for the money. I've been writing my first novel since July of 2009. This January I finally completed the rough draft. I celebrated for a day, and now I'm doing the revision work, which I quickly discovered is where the real work begins. Will my book sell? I have no idea. I believe that I have an original plot. But hey, the odds of success are probably better than playing the lottery!
I asked this very question of Hunter Thompson once-- this was at the end of the 70's, and we'd all crowded into an auditorium at UC Davis to hob-nob with our hero. His answer was pretty succinct, and even though I had recently inhaled the better part of the propellant of a can of whipping cream, I remember it as though it was yesterday. "I have to. If I didn't, I'd go crazy." That's got to be the essential core of anyone's answer: the pressing need to express yourself-- especially in the face of the world's utter indifference.
1. Like most other writers, I have a disease. It's called creativity, and if you don't flush it out of your system every once in awhile, it builds up until you go crazy or explode. I flush it out by writing. 2. I write because something in my brain tells me I have to. 3. I love creating my own world and seeing how the characters will deal with it. If I write about the real world, it'll be boring like my life, so I make my own. 4. It's like putting a puzzle together, arranging words so that you get your message across in the simplest yet most effective way. I've always liked puzzles, so naturally I've always liked writing. 5. I write impossible things and then try to make them seem possible...
I write because it's fun and I really enjoy doing it. It's also a good coping skill for me, because I have depression. I also like to make people think, so when I write I try to make it pretty deep. So yeah.
I write for fun. I write stories I would like to read, or experience, not ones I think other people might like. So far, nevertheless, I have found many people who like what I write so I am starting to take this hobby more seriously. But at its core, the reason for writing remains the same. Fun.
For some strange reason I've always wanted to be a writer. I've always wanted to be one of those people who have got great stories to tell, and who have something meaningful and original to say. It's all about creativity. My writing career started rather early, I was maybe eight or nine years old when I sat down to write my first short story. It was wonderful to notice that the more I wrote, the better I became at it. Now I'm writing my first novel - I'm on page 50 and it's going better than I could ever have imagined before starting the actual writing process that has been going on for a few months. It's a "classic" vampire story with some rather original elements in it, nothing to do with Twilight and very little in common with Anne Rice's vampire books. I like to describe it as more of a moral quest and escapism from our modern society. What makes me continue to write? I've probably read more than most people, and having read all kinds of literature (not only my genre, which is crime/horror) is definitely an advantage. I read and write simply because I love literature. Of course I would like to become a rich and famous writer, but in the end I don't really care about money. I'll be happy if I get my novel published some day and somebody actually reads it.
I've recently just began creative writing and right now I'm actually piecing together ideas for a murder mystery. Back in high school and as I started college I've only really been able to write essays where you have to do the stereotypical "look for the symbols, allusions, metaphors, blah blah blah, and analyze them" assignment. I'll admit I got a kick out of it too, it's pretty fun to read a text, dissect it, and then spin your own analysis while leaning on those that are already dead set by everyone before you. That way the work grows and evolves. It doesn't only hold meaning for the 1500's or whatever time it was written. In the end, we're still all humans and we still struggle and feel the same emotions, go through similar predicaments even though hundreds of years may come to pass. But creative writing I think...is much harder than any research essay. Because at least, in a research essay, you have the opinions of those before you to back you up. But when writing creatively, yeah you can have influences, allusions, but you have to mainly spin everything on your own. I think that's what holds the charm for me, why I write. The feeling of being a creator and giving life to words and making the characters move, run, and cry based on what I pen...it's a great feeling.
What compells you to write? What compels a dancer to dance? Or a singer to sing? Writing is my soul, and it's everything to me. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I think is of writing. It consumes my life, my very soul. Why do you write? See above What makes you write what you write? Once again, see above What Made you decide you liked to write? -_- See above! Writing is my soul, my life, what consumes everything I am. What Do You Write? Mainly Fantasy, and always fiction.
What compells you to write? Like many others, I'd like to write and tell stories for a living someday very soon. I've always loved writing ever since I was in middle school. the first book-book that I read was Holes. It was awesome. I want to write something that entertains others the way that book entertained me someday. Why do you write? I write because it's something that I've always enjoyed. If I can't get a story and characters out of my head in some way, I tend to get depressed. What makes you write what you write? I get ideas from pretty much anything - a picture, a dream, something I've seen or read about, maybe something I've watched or read didn't end the way I wanted it to and it fueled an idea. I tend to imagine things very vividly, so sometimes when I hear music a story flows through my mind. What Made you decide you liked to write? When I started writing, I enjoyed the process. I wrote a screenplay in high school that was passed around. Everyone told me they couldn't put it down. Now that I'm writing books, I'd like to think I can accomplish the same thing. What Do You Write? Now I mostly write fiction books. Sci-fi, young adult, always with a little romance and mystery/suspense thrown in. I started out writing screenplays when I was younger. It was advised that I switch to books because I wouldn't get a screenplay very far in Kentucky. I stopped writing for a long time when I couldn't figure out where to find a screen-writing agent around here. About 2 years later, the urge kicked in again and I started writing books.
What compels you to write? I just love to write. It's one of my biggest hobbies, and I really hope my future career revolves around it. Why do you write? I write because it helps me cope. Whenever I'm feeling down, I write to make myself feel better. What makes you write what you write? Nothing does. I just write whatever I feel like. What Made you decide you liked to write? Nothing really. I just always found it really enjoyable. What Do You Write?
Why, and what I write: Great questions! Personally, I cannot understand anyone's reluctance to writing. Writing is an expression of your soul, unless you are writing on topics you have no emotional attachment to. Allowing my mind to run free with no boundaries, no rules, and no restrictions. That is why I write. I write on particular topics because that topic is screaming to come out of me. I am literally in love with the concept that I--if I do it correctly--possess the ability to convey to the reader the exact physical, emotional, and mental content that I was experiencing when I put the pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard. lol). I write a mix of fictional instruction type pieces, as well as working on my book (international espionage drama). Thank you for posting these questions. I really loved the mental process it required of me to answer! Keith
What compells you to write? I think that when I pick up a pen, I get a surge of thoughts that I never get to use anywhere else. I have ideas that a lot of people my age don't really understand, and to be able to put them on paper is not only a blessing, but therapy to me now. Why do you write? I write because I was the kid on the block with all the imaginary friends. When I was a kid, I was a bit of an outcast, but I didn't care because I was surrounded by a crowd that wasn't actually there. And every night while I'm reading or listening to music, I put myself in a sort of plot, I guess. Like dreaming with my eyes open. I've always been a writer. I guess I've only just started writing stuff down. What makes you write what you write? Whenever I finish a short story and show it to my friends or a teacher, I love their reactions. I love watching them scan over my work, and I absolutely crave the slideshow of emotions they have as they read. What Made you decide you liked to write? When I realized that I could take every amazing idea I ever had and turn them into stories that people would read and enjoy. What Do You Write? I'm not very specific. I try my hand at everything, though I don't enjoy romance, angst, horror, and science fiction. I tend to tailor things to my taste.
why I write This is similar to my editor asking me how I come up with characters and story lines. The best way I can describe it is that I see the story in my mind. All I do is write it down. Sometimes the images flow so quickly, it's difficult to keep up. I think most of us wouldn't be able to not write if we tried. Here's my totally cut-loose blog. It's satirical...mostly. nathanashland.blogspot.com, if any of you care to read.
