I liked your answer because writing is that way for me as well. (Hence the signature.) When I'm writing, I feel more in touch with what is going on around me, and what is going on inside me as well. It ends up bringing me to a new place by the time I'm done.
What compells you to write? Some kind of hope. Why do you write? Because it helps me work through my own emotions, helps me discover new things about myself and the world around me. It helps make sense of why I do the things I do and the overall human condition. What makes you write what you write? So far I write science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I have a long and thorough background with computers. Nothing breaks my suspension of disbelief than someone stating absolute nonsense as facts, so you won't see me writing about an old man and the sea as to this day I've never been fishing.
What compels you to write? Frustration, and the need to let out the idea's in my mind. Why do you write? I want to know that I can do it. I have to add that I have a love-hate relationship with writing. Some days, it's the only thing I want to do. Other days, (the "writer's block" days), I get so frustrated with it that I almost want to throw in the towel. LOL

What compells you to write? I find myself very lucky to have a muse, a source of inspiration for my writing Why do you write? Writing provides a new perspective of expressing who you are. The moment you have a pen in your hand, looking down at a blank piece of paper, this is the realm where the imagination determines all. All it takes is a 'good idea,' and then you go with the flow. You don't have that kind of luxury with most jobs especially with the industry. What makes you write what you write? Everybody is different. One of the biggest reasons of what compells me is the sheer randomness that the stories that pop out from and you just sit there thinking about a universe you've created in your mind. Just the atmosphere the universe can give off, or the story and the ability to do what I want to my characters. The main reason that I write what I write is because I can relate to it in some tiny significant way and just create something which I like the look of. What Made you decide you liked to write? When I was about Six, my grandmother brought out some felt tips and a colouring book with some lined paper. I just sat there and wrote an entire story, it went on for about twelve pages, those twelve pages were just sheer ramblings of a little kid, but I filled up every line with words and since then it just became a way to vent our frustration and just kick back into a world I'd made. I used to get to sleep by making up stories in my head and I get ideas from songs, other books, pieces of scenery, etc. I have to write them when they come to me. I write because I just can't stop. I have always carried around a notebook and written stories, most of the time it was the one that I recently finished in one form or another but other times it was other stories or a short story, or a doodled sentence, it is just something I seem to HAVE to do. The reason I write what I write really has to do with my interest at that point and my interest tends to stick in the magical, fantastical, supernatural genre. Usually my characters are in the medieval ages, usually in some totally made up land in another dimension and they are being attacked by magical creatures or able to wield magic at their command. Other stories I have written are in the future and involve isolation and I do have a few ideas in my head for some present day stories, but usually it is mostly fantasy. I decided I liked to write in sixth grade. I had been running around with my notebook with this little story in my head, "Emma's magic Powers" about a girl who got the power of the wish, of course it went totally crazy but around the same time when I took the writing test I got a perfect score on a prompt that I had completely made up the answer to, it was positive affirmation that I was actually good at this thing I did and ever since then I knew writing was going to be some part of my life. I write fantasy and romance. I originally started out writing fantasy but the novel that I have working on for years and years just wasn't working the way I was writing it and I was going through a phase where I was reading romance at the time and I discovered that it would work better as a romance novel, so I switched, I still have plenty of ideas and will probably delve into a number of things if I can but mostly I write fantasy, romance, and I have some ideas for maybe some young adult books.

I replied to this thread a long time ago and can't even remember what I said, but I feel know on a better level now why I write: It keeps me sane. Aside from gushing all my thoughts, feelings, etc. to other people, which I don't really do alot, keeping a diary lets me express myself where no one can get down on me. Where I don't have to censor my thoughts and be careful not to offend people. And for the time being, it's my only outlet through self-expression. I haven't gotten the knack for playing my guitar -- yet
Because it distracts me from reality that is Life. Vampire Romance. Now, now!! Give me a chance....lol Don't expect any of that Twilight sparkly vamps. I'm bringing the old skool vamps
1. I can't not do it. All those thoughts going through my head, I feel obliged to do it. I must do it. It's just like someone said, it's like breathing. I sometimes don't like it, but I cannot live without it, simply. 2. I want to do it for a living, and I love it. To get my thoughts on paper, get all my ideas out. I also want to be published someday, show them all. Okay, that's a bit mean, but who doesn't like the recognition part of writing? Also, I really don't know what other career I could pick. Writing fits me perfectly, with my crazy mind. 3. Because I'm a dreamer, really. A flat out hopeless romantic. Romance is what I like to write about, because I love love, really. And I like fantasy, I like thinking that there are other things out there. No, not sparkling vampires. Doppelgangers, witches, things like that, but I like to put a twist on it, make the creatures my own (again, not by making them sparkle). I can write about real life, definitely. Fantasy is just something I'm interested in. 4. Well, I'm not entirely clear on this, but I do remember that I read a whole freaking lot. So, I was a good speller and all. I also think a lot, and usually space out. I don't really know how this all started. I liked writing short (very short) stories in elementary school, as I went back to my old teacher and she told me that I loved writing. Well, actually, you know the reading thing? I went on a roleplay site when I was nine, because I really liked this one book. So I wrote (one-liners, mostly) and my writing progressed over time. I started to like it and now my classmates tell me that my writing's good. That helped, knowing that I have an actual talent. 5. Romance, fantasy mostly. Science fiction/fantasy kinda thing? Real life's okay too. I tend to have some form of death in my stories, and yeah. Really, it just happens. I don't even notice. Romance is the biggest one, though. I love me some love.
1. What compells you to write? My imagination. 2. Why do you write? It's really the only creative thing I'm good at, so that's one reason. I also write because it relieves my overactive imagination of some ideas. 3. What makes you write what you write? Several things that influence me, such as what a read and watch on TV. Also, I mostly write fantasy. I believe this genre (along with supernatural and science fiction) has the greatest capability to allow you to escape from reality. 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? I read a lot and I finally thought, "I want to be able to write something." It was as simple as that. 5. What Do You Write? Fantasy, adventure, romance and humor.
1. What compells you to write? I can't really answer what compells me to write because I don't know. Everything inspires me though; usually silly little insignificant details or seemingly unimportant moments. Or even things as simple as music, food, smells, dancing, particular people etc.. 2. Why do you write? I'm a writer! And I like the peace it gives me. I'm not in it for money, or recognition, I just enjoy the process. 3. What makes you write what you write? Again, I don't know. I don't linger on specific themes or subjects or even genres. It just depends on what's taken root in my mind when I'm writing. 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? I find it a very natural process and I've never struggled with an idea or the fluidity of a piece. It's extremely relaxing to just sink into it. 5. What Do You Write? Everything! Though most of my stuff is very strongly character based and I find I tend to linger on Gothic aspects more than any other, but it really does depend on how I'm feeling and what I'd like to say. It can vary between poetry, short stories, character studies, novellas...
What compells you to write? No idea. I find myself doing it. I like reading my own writing, it gives me a kick. Why do you write? For fun. I find it relaxing and stimulating to sit down at the end of a busy day and write. It is a creative outlet that is just for me. I have other creative hobbies that are easier to "show". Someone can look at them and comment instantly. But for someone to spend the time to read something you have written and comment on it is quite a big favour. I'm sure other people as a rule have only 1% the amount of interest in something you write than you yourself. So I have not really given my stuff to people to read. So - I write for myself. What makes you write what you write? I write children's stories and SciFi because I can get away without doing any research. It's purely imagination. A lazy, comfortable, fun outlet. I am also working on a non-fiction book with a biological theme for kids because I want to share my passion in that field. This project is a long-term project that does require work! This one I do plan to publish - ONE DAY What Made you decide you liked to write? I didn't decide to write. My many journals - thick A4 hard-cover note-books filled with tiny writing - gave it away. What Do You Write? Private journal, non-fiction, children's stories and SciFi. I haven't yet found a serious topic that I want to write about, as in a novel. But currently I am trying to improve my skills, hoping one day to find it - something really worth working on, if you know what I mean. Not all this fluff I'm writing at the moment.
1. What compells you to write? In addition to my love of lying , I am a reader inspired to the point of emulation. 2. Why do you write? I love lying ! 3. What makes you write what you write? I find living in the here and now more compelling than Dickens, more horrific than Poe, 4. What Made you decide you liked to write? Once I began interacting with other writers I realized how pretenious many are, does their writing reads as blow hardish as their personalities ? I do not know if I love writing but I do know I do not like writers per se/ 5. What Do You Write? Chick-Lit
Wow, if that pans out, I could have saved a lot of money on . . . um . . . Hey look, *Points* fish tracks. Seriously though, this is quote-worthy.
Tough question, what Compels me to write? - just a hobby, and a cherished one at that, always had pens and paper and would write, tried writing what would be classified as a fanfiction, and caught the bug, got to 100 pages before giving it up, come back to the project a few times, never got as far though. As a few have said, I've got ideas in my head, which need using in stories. I've found writing to become a way of winding down, if I can ensure that I pen some words and do a little work on the book then I feel happy, I know Ideally I should get more done, I've got swirling ideas in my head but only ever finished two books (only one of those ever got typed up - the other is still in a couple of A5 pads - hand ached for ages (did it quick though, a month to handwrite the second one) Certainly other personal interests I have, I read politics at A-Level and certainly I've tried to create political backdrops in some of my stories. I'm also a trainee teacher and thus have set myself to write something for kids. - As a way of broadening my horizons. When I read a project I had done, which is now a fanfiction, and found that I, and others who I didnt know loved it and begged me to carry it on. I've found reading enjoyable, and despite my condition like writing, I'm there with a notepad if away from a computer, either planning or writing the story. Words Seriously, I've tended to write about my ideas, and have started work on projects which have tailored to my interests and hobbies, such as I've done a political novel set in Ireland, and am doing one set in the UK. I follow the political scene closely. Other than that I've written sports stories and also when (if) I get round to typing it, did a day by day unofficial diary for the Cricket World Cup in February, March and April. Lately I hope to become a bit more risky and delve into other genres of novel.
