What compells you to write? An idea, an interesting story, since I've been so centered on fanfic writing, I get compelled to write when a really good base inspires me with either the characters, the plot, or even the simple concept. I delve into the what ifs, and if onlys, and how would things be different if... etc. Getting away from the fanfic scene, when I'm struck by a good plot bunny. And to toy around with 5 different main characters that jump around in my head. Why do you write? It's the only way I can properly express myself. It's a way to share my thoughts and have my opinions/ideas known. But above all, because I can. What makes you write what you write? I've been in love with fantasy and all things supernatural since I was kid. So I've always been drawn to writing about magic and the like. But recently, it's been delving into the interactions between magic and reality, and the thin line between fantasy and horror because I find it an absolutely fascinating subject. What Made you decide you liked to write? I have a distinct memory of when we just moved to the States and we were sharing a home with relatives. I spent many months out of school since my old school schedule didn't quite sync up with American schools. One day I got bored of playing pretend/surfing the net/playing video games/watching movies and I opened up a word document. Just for the hell of it. Then I wrote down the things I did when I played pretend, in a story format. The rest was history. What Do You Write? Mostly fantasy, some sci-fi, and I'm currently trying my hand at horror
To sum all those questions up into one answer: I have these thoughts, and I build on them. Sometimes it can be part of a dream or sometimes I just think of what someone might be saying in a conversation and before I know it I've created a reason and an outline for how the following events can unfold. I write them down because I think they are interesting. I enjoy putting my creations on paper. That's why I write.

I give my characters abilities and descriptions of what I'm feeling. I feel better after unwittingly writing about my problems. What makes you write what you write? Anger, hope, want for a different type of world. A world where dragons exist and I can reach the heavens. What Made you decide you liked to write? I've always wanted to make a story to escape to a different world. What Do You Write? Fantasy. I give things like Doves and Ravens the ability to talk. I love dragons and faeries and such. Always been entertained by things I can't see.
I write because I have writing as one of my skills that I am planning to develop. It goes according to a whole master plan, you see. I am presently maintaining about 25 skills in my master list, and writing happens to be one of them. As to what I shall do with these skills after I master them...that is a discussion for another time.

What compells you to write? Inspiration. An article on TVTropes spawned "Sixty Four Squares of Black and White". A random thought spawned "Demonbound". In the story "Jack", Jack is a combination of Skulduggery Pleasant and another character in the same series, (coincidentally) named Springheeled Jack. The Cutters in "Jack" were actually based on the Circle agents from another story of mine, which were in turned based on the SWAT agents from the movie The Matrix. Lots of things are my inspiration. Why do you write? It's fun, and my imagination can flow. Also, omnipotence. I get to do anything I like. If I wish my world to burn in a thousand different colored magical fires, I could; it's all about inventing a reason for the fires, and Mr. Imagination can easily take care of that. What makes you write what you write? What do I write? Well, mostly, dark or strange stories. Sixty Four Squares of Black and White is an example. The Death Blade in an (admittedly) horribly written first short story of mine is strange and slightly dark, though written in a humorous context. I like to write these stories because they're more original than anything. Every fantasy stories shares traits, but the Miscellaneous stories can be anything. So I specialize in Misc. What Made you decide you liked to write? My first storybook, Davy Jones. I wrote it when I was 8, entirely by pen, in an orange notebook, mostly in class. What Do You Write? I accidently merged this with the question above the above question.
I write because I have to. To paraphrase a sci fi author whose name escapes me, if you can dissuade someone from writing, you should.
Same Ever since I was a kid, I'd find little elements in other stories that I really liked, or tweaked them in certain ways in my head. And I'd always try to find stories with those certain elements in them, but it was always kind of hard to find just what I wanted. Then one day, I decided "screw it, I'll write it myself." In spite of having no natural talent for it, I've been writing since I was about seven, so it's an impossible habit to break. But not the worst thing I could be doing with my time, all things considered.
This is the same for me. As far back as I can remember, I wrote or drew things during recess instead of played kickball or whatever. But I've always been a bit of a loner anyway.
I like the thought of dreaming up things to invite someone in to your imagination by using theirs. With writing you can do that. I might be completely wrong, but hey, you can't have everything.
I am writing because like breathing, I feel I just have to. I am currently on a 1k word/day writing assignment and find it challenging and provoking.
You think 1,000 words is hardcore? When NaNoWriMo comes around, I've gotta haul ass and write 1,600 at minimum to keep end the month with 50,000 words on the dime. This is why we need NaNoWriMo support groups on this forum. I believe Mallory is on that. Anyways, I write because I love it and it makes me feel powerful. It offers a challenge but also allows me to be the master of a world where I can make anything happen. Cliche.
Sounds exciting. I write for the same reason, it comes second nature to me. If I didn't write, I feel that my two worlds would blend together, and that would be no good simply because I write down everything I feel to the best that I can, and if I didn't write it down I feel like I would be one giant wreck. My blog is basically just a big creative writing session, but everyone who reads it seems to get a better understanding, and agree with my thought processes.
What compels you to write? An itch. Seriously, if there's an itch in my head that's my "get writin' cue" Why do you write? The itch. What makes you write what you write? I write because i love to create, to open peoples minds, I will never stop writing. Although I've not made any money from it yet, people do enjoy my stories. I would love to make a living from it, even part time. If not, oh well. I will put words to paper to convey my thoughts for as long as i live. I would like to beleive that maybe some ones life will be changed by my words, I know everyone who has read my work, except for all but two publishers, have love my worlds. My imagination needs to be expressed and words are my medium. I have literaly been writing before i knew what an alphabit was.
I'm forced to write because I feel that I'm dumb-ed down by the work I do, by the life I lead, and the things that I don't let myself say. It's eating a hole, making everything I am disappear, and I'm tired of letting it all disappear. I'm tired of pretending I'm normal. I guess that's my reason.

I think I could sum this up with a line from a poem a dear friend of mine wrote: You ask why I write, it's all that I know; The only way I can prove I am not made of stone. Beautiful, isn't it? I think that is why I write. When I write, everything makes sense. Even the nonsensical things, the stuff I find dreary and boring -- they have a place in my life and there is a reason for them when I'm creating something that is as much a part of me as my heart is. I'm compelled to write by the same thing that compels me to live; life itself is the best inspiration I have ever had. So I guess you could say I write to understand the world, or show the world as I understand it. The idea of creating something that can touch people is something am enamoured of, and I can only hope I someday will. Writing is so powerful, and I am so grateful I have that.
Overall, I write because it's in my heart. If I didn't write, I probably wouldn't be able to breathe. Most view that as an extreme, but I'm just a very passionate person about my writing. I'd give up oxygen before writing. Q: What compells you to write? A: The gut feeling that starts in the pit of your stomach and climbs into your heart.
