    What compels you to write?

To see the words on paper. To remember my past, tell someone, anyone that I existed. I lived once in the distant past and my life meant something dammit. I was here, even if it's a scribble on the bathroom stall. The same thing that compels someone to engrave their initials in a Beech tree in the middle of the woods is the same thing that compels me to write.

    Why do you write?

I write because I am human and alive.

What makes you write what you write?

To sort things out. To understand and seek to comprehend the space I occupy and to imagine what if...what if x were why and z happend to q.

What made you decide you liked to write?

    I cannot remember.

    What do you write?

Short fiction, poetry, lyrics, music and I've just begun an autobiography that I have wanted to begin writing for some time and only recently have reached an age that I have something to say about my life.

    What compells you to write?
anything and everything. Inspiration is everywhere. Lately I've been having some vivid dreams that cling to me when I wake up.

    Why do you write?
Writing relaxes me and makes me happy. :)

What makes you write what you write?
It helps relieve my mind of some of the ideas that are constantly flowing through my brain.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
When I was in kindergarten, I would write little "stories" for my family. They liked them, so I would keep writing. It sorta became an obsession.

    What Do You Write?
I turn dramatic versions of my life and my silly theories about how the universe works into stories.

My father passed away when I was nine, my grandparents took my brother and I and raised us. Holding my feelings in made me rebel, after going to therapist after therapist I realized I could release some of my emotions by writing them. When I was sixteen I had written well over thirty poems. Now that I am twenty two and a wife and a mother I have different emotions to write down so I began writing novels. I've never been published and I had never gotten past the first chapter with most of them. However with my newest creation I have made a title and a cover. Also I am still writing and on the fourth chapter of "Tainted Moon". Inspiration comes from many places but your own personal mind is the best of them all.

    What compells you to write?

A morbid need to narrate life in all its hideous magnificence.

    Why do you write?

It transforms me into a wiser person. I go back to being and arsehole after.

What makes you write what you write?

Deep seeded neurosis and insecurity masquerade as bravado and capability.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

Immediate gratification once it is out....like a good poo.

    What Do You Write?

Sarcastic and moody introspection, horror, comedy, total shite, possibly a modern classic or mice food etc etc etc

What compels me to write? Lack of communication skills, it started off as diary entries when I was 16 and have written one foe almost every day of my life ever since. I always make sure that I write about something that I learn't that day that I can add to myself as a person. Something I am grateful for and I acknowledge my love for those I care about, lost or living near or far. I quit school to aimless peruse a career in stunt driving but ended up selling pot instead.....(whoops) eventually when I was 23 I enrolled, then I completed a diploma in creative writing. The decisions I have made in life have lead me down some interesting paths, between really life experience and an over-active imagination mean that I have a lot going on in my head all the time. When I write I can express myself, improve my decision making process and clear my mind, entertain or educate others, and share with people what I can't communicate normally. I write all sorts of things, poetry, rap beats (this a new phase and something I probably shouldn't tell anyone about yet...) fantasy fiction and jokes as well, I want to be a stand up comedian as well.

    What compells you to write?
just look around. look around, I mean, isn't this compelling enough?

    Why do you write?
To understand life in general and the rules of life as well. like, how everything works. it's like this big unstoppable massive machine. it's fascinating.

What makes you write what you write?
the feelings that I long for in my life? probably..

What Made you decide you liked to write?
because it's all a lie. whatever I write. fiction. but these lies are totally justified, aren't they ? ;)

    What Do You Write?
trying to improve myself within the genre of drama mixed up a bit with this kind of mystery to the plot and the protagonist, playing with the narrative to mislead the reader and surprise them afterwards?

What compells you to write?/Why do you write?
I decided to combine the first two since they're similar. I love writing down what's happening in my life. It's an experience that never gets old when I stumble upon something I've written years ago.

What makes you write what you write?
I've had some life experiences that not many go through and I sort of feel that I may profit from it in the future, not just monetarily, if I record it. That's why I'm an obsessive with journaling and non-fiction.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I was a very strong reader when I was young and I read a lot. Reading would make me lose myself in the world that was written and a very similar thing happens when I write. I often lose myself in my writing and hours go by and thousands of words would be written when I snap back to consciousness. It's quite pleasurable. I also had a lot of positive remarks about my writing from teachers, family, friends, etc.

    What Do You Write?
I've been journaling for 4-5 years and started writing a non-fiction memoir book seriously starting a year ago.

    My first post here!

I write because it tends to stamp some definition into my sorry head...I can dream up anything and immediately and cleverly put into writing.....doing this excites me, makes me feel important, creative and as if having some goals in life. If I were not to write my thoughts in creative ways, and was merely to think about them, then I know I would cascade into a pit of missery. So writing gives me a mental construct I suppose....something to stain the canvas with...to say it is me.

    What compells you to write?

One of the things that most compell me to write is when I'm walking through the woods and there are so many things surrounding me, and I can imagine a million different things that could possibly happen out there and I just want to write all my ideas on paper, to bring them to life.

    Why do you write?

I want to make others feel the way I do when I read a book and I feel like I have these ideas and stories in my head that need to come out because one day, they may affect somebody's life the way books have affected mine.

What makes you write what you write?

I just sometimes feel like it... :D I have no explanation.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I'm not exactly sure what specific moment it was that I decided I liked to write, but I do know that a particular teacher did compell me when I wrote a short story as an assignment, and she called me forwards and asked me in shushed tones; "Tell me the truth. Did you copy this from a book?" I hadn't known whether to take it as an insult or compliment at the time, but soon decided I might as well take it as a compliment. I got full marks and I had the proof that I had in fact written it, as I'd already inked down a first draft in my excercise book :)

    What Do You Write?

Fantasy (magic) / Romance / Stories about relationships between charecters.

    What compells you to write?

Music. Small flashes of ideas. Reading good quotes. Sometimes it can be browsing some random article at Wikipedia.

    Why do you write?

The first sporadic answer in my head was 'I don't know', but I realized that it was a pretty poor answer. Writing has just always been there with me, I've done it for as long as I can remember and after some encouragement I found it that I was alright. It's not by any means just a habit; writing is definitely important on all aspects of why talking to another person when trouble is important, or the reason of writing a diary. Writing is a way to channel life for me, to experience and to paint what isn't actually anywhere but in my head.

What makes you write what you write?

I'm fairly sure my childhood summers spent reading tons and tons of fantasy has influenced me. It's important for me to have a big say in creating and what better way is there than to create a world that is fairly my own?

What Made you decide you liked to write?

The fact that I was good! Appreciation and encouragement from teachers and others. Also the world creation it allowed me to do.

    What Do You Write?

My main writing is actually forum roleplaying and I can't tell you how much that has done for my writing in general. As for my novel work? Centered to urban/modern fantasy.

    - that initial euphoria when a story dawns on me; either a character or a plot just reveals itself and I frantically try to catch the essence of it, sketch it out straight away. After that, I can't wait to write the details, to see how things will pan out.

    - i want to say certain things in a way that people will listen, and usually just saying something doesn't really work, but when you illustrate it with a story, it has better chance of creating an impact. Also, I just enjoy it and can't help it :D

    - probably my various life experiences, and the fact that I can't stop analysing things and people around me, which gives me ideas

    - when I was 15, I used to sneak out of bed after everyone went to sleep. I'd go to the kitchen and make myself a huge pot of black coffee (so I would stay awake), steal a pack of my mum's cigarettes (I quit since than, yay!) and go to my uncle's old room (this was all happening in my grandma's house) with a thick set of cheap notebooks. There I'd sit until dawn, feverishly writing romance novels about my and my best friend's romantic adventures with various guys we had a crush on, lol And then I'd call her on the phone and read the latest chapter to her, and we'd be having hysterics about it :D So lame looking back, but at the time, it was so wonderful, ever since then I wanted to write novels to fascinate and entertain people and myself.

    - various, mainly character-driven dramas, I like glamour, internal conflict, excitement, strong female characters :D (no, seriously), sci fi (Dune and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep are some of my favourite novels of all time), vampires (sucker for Bram Stoker, but also fan of True Blood series), mysteries/thrillers... lots of different stuff :)

    What compells you to write?
My urge to share my stresses and worries of daily life

    Why do you write?
It relieves stress in my mind

What makes you write what you write?
My fascination with things that cannot be possible in the real world

What Made you decide you liked to write?
The stress it puts off me and it turns me away from excessive gaming

    What Do You Write?
Usually any genre closely relating to horror-fantasy, romance but very dark and tragic. I sometimes write what I want my life to be like, not what it really is.

    What compells you to write?
I'm originally from a place called Liverpool. This naturally implies four things: 1. I have an over-developed sense of humour. 2. I can write. 3. I can't count.
I am a romantic by nature and a cynic by choice--you tell me: How can a romantic cynic possibly not be compelled to write?

    Why do you write?
Because I can. Because I possess 2 gifts: 1. Cowardly perceptions with very limited willingness and capacity to confront and comprehend existence. 2: That astonishing human faculty that is the ability to create, albeit not very well, which conveniently steps in and fills the void left in the wake of my fleeing perceptions.

What makes you write what you write?
This question is tougher than it looks at first glance. It's whatever I feel profoundly compelled to write about.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I wrote a story when I was eleven. My father refused to believe that I had written it, saying that it was obviously crafted by someone much more mature. That seemed to please me at the time.

    What Do You Write?
    Satirical fantasy

Good Question i've never really thought about it before.
I write because i can't not, i get restless and bored and moody when i'm not working on something.
I tried to give up a few months ago but book ideas just hit me out of nowhere and then i have to write them because they just keep nagging at me. I love being creative but i think writing is the most personal of all the Arts and requires a lot of alone time.
But that's why i write it keeps me sane hahaha

    What compels you to write?
A deep need to communicate concepts using the mind's eye.

    Why do you write?
I like to travel by means of words, and take others along on the journey. I love the way the right string of words can say so much, or so very little. If I can get someone to crawl into the words and out again and have some part of the story linger in their mind and make it churn, then I feel an intense level of accomplishment.

What makes you write what you write?
Curiosity. Sometimes I'll start with just a random innocent concept and it will morph into a strain of events that I had not envisioned for the piece. That unexpected path makes writing extremely exciting for me.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
The reaction of readers. Years ago I wrote a short paragraph and showed it to a few people and they were all affected by it, and no amount of verbal words could have portrayed the same emotion. Writing just seemed like a different level by which to communicate emotions and concepts.

    What Do You Write?
I used to write short pieces at first; just well structured words, usually focusing on a single event, that flowed into an emotive paragraph. Over the years though I've researched writing and morphed into a short story writer. I'm currently focusing on creating solid scenes.

    What compels you to write?
I can't honestly express my feelings in plain sentences spoken from my mouth, as I am sadly THAT shy. Fear of crowds, you know. Plus, I don't know... it's just hard for me to share my thoughts with others. So, I use other methods, one of them is writing.

    Why do you write?
Because I love to read. Plus, I like to imagine. And I kinda feel more at ease when I write things, clears my head.. I guess.

What makes you write what you write?
I want to see how it goes. Simple as that. :>

What made you decide you liked to write?
Hmm.. that's a bit kinda tough. I guess what made me like writing was because 'somebody' actually likes my work. That, and like said before, writing clears my head. Especially when I had a really rough day.

    What Do You Write?
I used to write those simple scripts that aren't even considered as a story. Then I tried my hand at simple fanfiction, and roleplaying. Now, I guess I can write some short stories, but sadly, I can't ever improve on essays. Haha.

    What compels you to write?
I'm good at it because I read so much. What else do I have to do?

    Why do you write?
To create stuff. Monsters and stories and all that, so that other people can read and be inspired like when I read other's stories. The other people responding have said it much better than me, I think.

What makes you write what you write?
What I like to read. I like horror stories and science fiction, so that's what I write.

What made you decide you liked to write?
Not sure. I've wanted to write since I was a little kid, and I've only recently started.

    What Do You Write?
Like what I said, horror stories and science fiction. Stories that I would love if someone else wrote them.

Well, i write because i want to give to people my way of seeing things. Because i love the way to give people differnet expressions and different points of view.

I write in my 2 blogs (1 along with my girlfriend) for political issues and for my favourite sports team. I try and i think i am specially in the sports blog (PAOK BC) opposite to the reader and viewer.

Also i write because i study journalism and i wish and hope to be a good one, one day!

    What compels you to write?
There seems to be something inside of me that needs to create to survive.

    Why do you write?
"A writer writes not because he is educated but because he is driven by the need to communicate.
Behinf the need to communicate is the need to share. Behind the nned to share is the need to be understood." - Leo Rosten

What makes you write what you write?
The belief that there's someone else out there that understands the beauty of horror.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
When my old school teacher litterally forced us to write fiction and constantly praised one student and payed little attention to the rest of us. "You should be an author!" She always said.
And the whole time I was thinking to myself, I can do better...

    What Do You Write?
    Clive Barker inspired horror.

    I write because I must.
Like I said, I must write.

I don't write anything specific, so I can't say. What makes me write words?
    I hate writing.
I write words that hopefully represent thought.

    What compels you to write?
A desire to rid myself of thoughts, feelings or images, whether they be imagined or my own reality.

    Why do you write?
To relieve my brain of an idea and to occasionally share these ideas with others.

What makes you write what you write?
I have received positive comments on my work and find it to be a stress release.

What made you decide you liked to write?
I'm not entirely sure I do enjoy writing, I find that I am forever being critical of what I am writing which makes it less enjoyable!

    What Do You Write?
I write down my dreams, snippets of interesting conversation, images that come to mind and I attempt to turn these into poems or short stories.

So many great answers here! :)

What compels you to write? Writing is the one "thing" I've always enjoyed doing. I get a sense of accomplishment when I'm able to successfully translate the images and emotions in my head (and heart!) onto paper.

Why do you write? Aside from enjoying the writing process and the challenge it gives me, I find that it keeps my brain working. I'm constantly on the lookout for new ideas and concepts to incorporate in my writing. Also, writing is my art form of choice and it fulfills my need for self expression.

What makes you write what you write? Inspiration, the desire to be understood/heard, and maybe to find other like-minded people out there. I guess ultimately I've been touched by another writer in the past and hope that I can somehow pass that experience along to someone else.

What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't get enough challenge and satisfaction from just reading. I realized that what I really wanted was to contribute in my own way too.

What Do You Write? My favorite genres to write are fantasy, science fiction, and horror. Aside from long stories, I also enjoy short stories and poetry.
