Why do you write? Because I can't stop wondering 'what if...'. What compels you to write? I have an overactive imagination that just won't shut off. My brain keeps coming up with situations, settings, and characters. If I don't do something with them, they would keep floating around and I would never get anything useful done. I joke to my friends about always thinking about my book, always having that little space in the back of my mind where I'm working on a plot hole. But that is the simple truth. Once I started to put ideas together to form a story, it never stopped. What makes you write what you write? Again, the 'what if'. I like working with situations and/or characters that are just a bit different than you would expect. What made you decide you liked to write? Writing always came easy to me, whether it was an essay for school or a journal entry. I suppose it was the most convenient medium to choose when I decided I needed to do something about the ideas crowding my brain. When I showed it to some of my friends and they liked it, I decided to keep at it. Now I can't even imagine not writing anymore. What Do You Write? Different genres, ranging from a children's book to adult fantasy. One common element: fantasy. Either a child's imagination or a completely different world filled with strange creatures.
@MichaelAldan Ja, al een jaar of wat. Grotere potentiële afzetmarkt... Translation for the non-Dutch proficient population: Michael asked if I write in English. Yes, I do and have been for several years.
What compells you to write? The desire to share my ideas with the rest of the world in the same manner that I love to read about others' ideas. Why do you write? To share my ideas with the rest of the world and hopefully provided some small manner of enjoyment for my fellow humans. What makes you write what you write? The inspiration from and the fascination with, bygone ages, peoples who lived before me and what might have been. What Made you decide you liked to write? It was a bit of trial and error but eventually I decided that I liked to see what stories that I could weave together if I put my mind into it What Do You Write? I write, at present, Low Fantasy and Historical Fiction
What compells you to write? Experiences with people, and the stories they share with me usually result in an idea that needs to be transformed into a short film. I love creating and sharing these other world. Why do you write? I work on small films and commercials, and writing is almost always tied to the job at hand- from concepts, to pitching, to 'visualizing'. I also hate the traditional story telling techniques and devices. I would like to think that my own writing could offer an alternative voice. What makes you write what you write? Past experiences, current situation & future dreams. What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't actually think I like to physically 'write'. I like to tell stories. I have terrible handwriting which created a serious hate for writing when I was younger. It wasn't until I was in University that I realized writing involved strategy and development- which I loved. What Do You Write? hmmm... I haven't figured that out yet. Mostly scribbly ideas inside a notebook. There is usually next to no dialogue, a bit of folklore, a bit of violence.
What compells you to write? I have some type of urgency within me that life is slipping away, slowly yet steadily... Why do you write? I want to capture whatever the emotion I sense at that moment, while I can still feel it. Time seems to deaden emotions. What makes you write what you write? Daily life experiences make me write. What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't really know. I have loved writing as far back as I can remember. What Do You Write? I try to write everything.
What else would I do? What compells you to write? It's changed over the years. I grew up in a small town in Kansas, and books were a really great, time consuming way to escape into something that was clear and meaningful. As I've grown, it's becoming increasingly obvious that the bad guys rarely know they're bad, with a lot of people on their side that agree with them. And that's interesting. Most recently, it's become a way for me to deal with the future without paranoi-ing myself into hyper ventilation. Why do you write? Because I want to have something to say that lasts, and that I want it to be important to someone else. I guess it's my grail quest, and I'm looking for some kind of truth in an increasingly vague world. What makes you write what you write? It's the only thing that makes sense to me. My stories are also my brand of philosophy, and certain genres just seem to speak with my voice more accurately. What Made you decide you liked to write? I'm not actually sure I do like it, but it often feels like there isn't another choice. I just have to sometimes. What Do You Write? Fiction. I grew up reading fantasy, and as the world has made technical advances around me, I've found that it is getting harder to separate what an ipad does from a wizard with a crystal ball. So I guess there isn't much difference to me between Sci/fy and Fantasy stories. They are where I find familiar footing, so that's were I walk.
What compells you to write? I love sharing what I know and / or writing something that will be very useful to others. Why do you write? I guess its the feeling that through my writing, I have helped someone or have made someone happy What makes you write what you write? Because the kind of books that I want to write are the kind of books that I want to read about. What Made you decide you liked to write? I decided to give it a try... See if I can create a good book that will be useful to others What Do You Write? I love writing poems but right now I am into writing something informative where people can see things the way I see it and hopefully they learn something from it.
What compels you to write? a desire to make sense of a moment Why do you write? to remember What makes you write what you write? I am inspired by experiences, and I don't want to forget. Every moment is so extraordinarily beautiful - all I want to do is capture one. I never will. The light keeps changing the water lilies. There's nothing really to do but try, though. What Made you decide you liked to write? School. I don't think I even liked writing until university; it was just the only thing I thought of doing. The analytical approach to writing changed my life. It made me realize that each piece of writing belongs to me. I'm not under any obligation to solve some puzzle, or try to guess what the writer had originally intended. No. The writing is mine, and I can make of it what I want. The freedom is intoxicating. I want to spread the freedom. What Do You Write? Sentences and sometimes paragraphs.
What compells you to write? Writing for me is the only way that I can express myself freely, especially that I am not that expressive of my feelings toward other people. I am not really thinking of what other people's opinions if they are going to read my works. In the first place, having a reader is not something that I consider whenever I am writing. The great thing about writing is that, you don't have to contemplate what other's conception of what you're writing. Who the hell cares of what you are trying to to convey, besides its yours either they are going to agree or against on it, that is their prerogative. Well, of course, it depends though, if you are writing for a specific person that you have to consider his opinion. On my end, I just write because I feel like doing it, and I have a very strong urge to elaborate or justify my opinion, and most of the time I am doing it to express my feelings on something that I have to let it out. Why do you write? I write because I suck on speaking! I can fully express my thoughts towards writing. Writing is my means of refuge, whenever I am confronted of immeasurable emotions inside me that I have to let go, before it will burst out that I will regret in the end. What makes you write what you write? Strong emotions in me. What made you decide you liked to write? I did not say I like writing all the time. There are times that writing is an impossible to do, especially if someone asks me to write on a topic that I have no idea what it is, to the point that I have to exhaust all my resources and time to look for the right words to write. And I end up having no sleep with unbearable headache, because someone asks me to write a 300-500 words about antique and vintage rings. I maybe a woman but rings are the least thing I want to talk about. I am merely writing to express myself because whenever I read those words I write, it makes me feel good. What do you write? Well, I write things I want to write. Most of the time, it depends on my emotions or moods.
What compells you to write? I like discovering new and interesting characters and settings Why do you write? I write because it helps relieve stress, and provides an escape from day-to-day minutiae. What makes you write what you write? I open my laptop and start typing. Anything that crosses my mind gets thrown in somehow. What Made you decide you liked to write? When I was a Freshman in High School, I had to write an epic for my English class. When I started to write it, it was as if the story was discovering itself and I was just along for the ride. Two days later, I had 50 pages to turn in to my teacher as opposed to the 10 page minimum. (she gave me 200% on that project ) What Do You Write? I write fantasy, horror, and thriller. Maybe I'll try SF soon, but I'm afriaid I haven't read enough of it to do it as well as the other genres I listed.
What compels you to write? The thrill in being able express my views and creativity Why do you write? It's fun, it has become a part of who I am ever since I met the joy of writing What makes you write what you write? Pen, Paper, Computer, ideas What Made you decide you liked to write? At first it was just to answer the what if's running through my head soon it became a way of passing the time the next thing I know I had loved it and could not let go of it What Do You Write? Mostly fanfiction(anime) Romance, General genre. Currently trying my hand on video game writing, fantasy RPG (for school)
What compells you to write? My ideas. Most writers start off with a character or plot, but me, I always start off with an idea. In The IDA, the first (frankly bad) story I wrote, the inciting idea was, "What if people could have battles in their dreams?" and I carried it off from there, to twenty-something chapters. Then I abandoned it. (Poor Roger.) Why do you write? I like to do it, three published authors (Marjetta Geerling, Kekla Magoon, and Gaby Triana) have told me I'm good at it (Triana told me I was "extremely talented" - yay!), and it beats sitting on my ass playing video games all day. What makes you write what you write? I don't really understand this question. Do you mean my influences? If so, I have plenty - from other novels (mostly classics) to anime/manga to video games. The Catcher In The Rye sparked my love for writing. Hell, the first time I read it, I wanted to change my name to Holden! No joke! (Well, sorta.) What made you decide you liked to write? Answer in previous question. What do you write? Short stories and novels, usually in first person. I write essays and book reports and (crappy) poems too, but they're all for school so they don't really count. Honestly, I HATE how my English teacher forces me to write poems. It wouldn't be so bad if they were poems with stories like The Raven, but nooooooooooo, they have to be stupid cryptic Robert Frost ones! Arrgh!! (no offense to Robert Frost fans.)
I write because something came to me in my sleep, it slowly unbuttoned my body, and then it grabbed my soul by the tips of its tall fingers. I write so I wouldn’t choke on the words I never spoke. I write for a cause, my own. I write for a fashion, I write for a pleasure, I write for a melody. I write to bury that horse in the ground, the horse I’m always dragging around. I write for a fashion that will fade, for a pleasure that will expire, for a melody that will break, for a horse that will rise. I’m writing the most painful story, with a pen of the thickest red ink, on torn out pages, that one day I will staple, papers that will rest on the oldest wooden shelves. I’m writing my own, a work of art that only I could ever tailor. I’m writing the story of ugly memories put together in the most addictive manner, a way that couldn’t go wrong, a way that does me proud.
Why do I write? I write because I can, because I grew up in a world of make-believe and fairy-tales, and that children have a human right to stories. I believe storytelling is the very core of our self s, and when I die and my children die and their children die, I want to have given the world my stories, and i want to be able to raise my head high and tell the world who I am and how I got here,
The short answer would be because it's the only socially accepted form of schizophrenia. It gives me a break from my mundane, monotonous life.
*Looks down at my signature* Uhhh... I think Asimov said it best, really. (see siggy) I write because I have to write, because it as natural and necessary as breathing. I write because the stories in my head continue to develop, and the characters won't stop talking to me, demanding that those stories, their stories, be told. I write because every time I pick up a book, be it fiction or otherwise, ideas flow through my head and distract me. Suddenly I'm playing out scenes, developing worlds, considering characters I had never known before. I write because I cannot not write. As for how I choose what to write...Well, any idea that seems fun, I guess, gets at least a chance to be written. I grew up on sci-fi and fantasy, and so I mostly write those two genres. (That and poetry.) I like writing philosophy and non-fiction as well, as I actually enjoy writing essays for school. I write whatever I need/want to write at any given time, based on the ideas in my head and what is going on in my life. Another quote that I think sufficiently sums up why I write:: “All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.” - George Orwell
Why do I write? Hehe, well I guess because I would love for everyone to read my amazing stories. I'm a big dreamer. I want my books to be published, then put on screen and for my name to be known forever. Somewhat like J.K. Rowling High hopes, high hopes. But one who doesn't chase after his dreams, will never see them come true. So I'll continue doing that. And of course I have to CONQUER THE WORLD MUAHAHAHAHAHA *Silently creeps away into a dark corner to write*
What compels you to write? The same thing that compels me to write/play my music: I get an idea floating around in my head and as long as I don't get it out, it'll drive me nuts. I have a very demanding muse and often she drives me out of my bed in the middle of the night to jot down an idea or record a riff etc, praying I don't wake up my wife. Why do you write? It's just fun, you know? Much better than getting drunk or high or whatever, it doesn't cost anything, and it's actually very educative since I always have to do a ton of research on the side. What makes you write what you write? A desire to share with others the stories I've found enjoyable to produce. What Made you decide you liked to write? Truthfully? I have no idea. What Do You Write? Contemporary adult fiction with elements from fantasy, sci-fi, drama, romance, horror, and historical fiction.
Why do I write? Simple. I write to make sense of all those thoughts that seem to swarm around in my head. Only when I am typing away on my laptop or scribbling away with a pen do they actually start to mean something. There is no better feeling than when you begin to write and the words just seem to roll out of you, and when you know you have it right and it portrays the way you feel you know you have succeeded.
What compels me to write is to extend myself and my beliefs through an extended narrative I write to help me take the edge off mostly and also so entertain. It's like a faucet that pours out butterflies tigers What makes me write what I write is my desire to expose, explain, and explore the human heart, mind, and culture Surprisingly my fear of horror movies made me write, I was so gung ho to show I'm not afraid of horror movies (which btw I'm deathly afraid of) that I decided I wanted to "scare" people with my own stories. Basically a "I can do that too" story I write often nihilistic-psychological fiction that spreads across all genre's I can get my hands on. More often than not I will have cryptic story twists that confuse and force the reader to think about what just happened and why. I love to mess with people's heads and it shows through my stories and storylines right down to the characters.
. What compells you to write? Great exercise for the mind. Expression on paper is lasting. A written legacy as opposed to a verbal one. An opportunity to share the soul. Why do you write? As above, but mostly for the enjoyment as well. As a solitary pursuit, it has much to commend it. What makes you write what you write? One reason is emulation of my likes with a view to sharing. What Made you decide you liked to write? I think the main influence early on was winning a national essay writing competition. Clearly some group thought I had merit, so in later years I started a writing course. In the meantime, my career involved police and court files, accident and fraud investigations, public prosecution reports, staff appraisals et.al. The sum total involved analysis and expression, phraseology and proofs, with now the opportunity to get that skill into writing (with the hope that it translates). What Do You Write? A little crime/thriller/fiction, comedic show scripts, and tiny amount of poetry.
What compells you to write? I write because its a basic need and necessity for me – like breathing, drinking and eating. Why do you write? This is the only creative medium that I'm a bit adept at. What makes you write what you write? I write what I write depending on my outlook and mood in that moment in life. What Made you decide you liked to write? i was always an avid reader – well, I never used to read in my childhood, but I first picked up by biggest book in grade 4. It was around 200 pages, and I felt so thrilled to have finished it in a week. My first unfinished novel then began shortly thereafter. I wonder where it is now (I know I haven't thrown it out) – I remember stumbling on it somewhere in my room when I was 13 or 14 and I couldn't believe how horrible it was. What Do You Write? I usually write fantasy, romance and angst when it comes to fiction. I also write some fanfiction and poetry.
What compels you to write? It's an urge I have to transfer from my imagination to solid paper all the characters and situations that I create. These thoughts become constant in my mind and thrill me into writing them. Why do you write? There must be thousands of different answers to this question. I write because it's something I'm good at. I can easily flow thoughts through written words (I write my stories first on a notebook and then pass them to my computer). Also, the thought of someone writing something so similar to any of my ideas is mind boggling. I must write it now, or soeone else will! What makes you write what you write? Well, I've always been attracted to fantasy stories. I take inspiration situations that happen, or from things that have happened on my past. I also like action movies, so they play a big part on my enthusiastic writing moments. What Made you decide you liked to write? Haha. I once had a homework when I was in elementary school about writing a short story. I spent a whole afternoon locked in my room making it. Later I read it to my dad and he was totally impressed (a high-five ensued). Then, I didn't write squat until I was at the university. On my spare time I wrote awful romantic poetry, and had bits and pieces of my first novel (not published at the time). I wasn't sure what to study, and a counselor told me about a Creative Writing program. Loved it, and the rest is history. What Do You Write? I mostly write fantasy and sci-fi. I have some stories that begin with these principles, but are more focused on real life situations and dramas. I have planned on publishing my stories and get myself to be known, and making some nice amount of dough, too, hehe. I write for me and I like it. But I just want to share my novels with everyone. Good luck to all with their writings!
