Writing feels as natural to me as striking up a conversation with someone when you find yourself in the same room as them. Actually, it often feels more natural. Actually, if I could spend far less time talking to people, and far more time sat in a corner observing them like a weirdo, with my pen and paper handy, I would be a much happier individual.

    What compels you to write?
Because there are things in my head that I'd like to get down on paper, and sometimes they take the form of characters in a setting.

    Why do you write?
To give myself a hobby that's not just surfing the internet or playing video games. That and there's a sort of comfort in knowing that your characters and your settings belong truly, exclusively, to you. No one else on this planet owns them, or can do anything to them. No one can make you. You are the master of your own creation. It may look similar to someone else's creation, but it's not their creation.

What makes you write what you write?
I love history, not to a great degree as I used to, but I still love history. I like visiting the past, learning about the motivation of people who lived centuries before I did.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I blame Harry Potter and The Inheritance Cycle.

    What Do You Write?
I like to write historic fiction/historic mysteries.

I write because it's fun. It lets me get out of my own head for a while and think about fantastic things. I never really decided I liked writing - for most of my childhood I wanted to be an artist! Eventually I had to accept that I was rubbish with a brush and at least decent with a keyboard. So I express my art with writing now in stead. I write Fantasy, post-apocalyptic fiction, sci-fi, and romance.

    What compels you to write?
My head is filled with dozens of stories and settings. I've always had a strong desire to write them down, but until recently I was too scared of failure.

    Why do you write?
To turn the many ideas in my head into something tangible and build something I can call my own.

What makes you write what you write?

I enjoy fantasy, but I really don't like its tendency to create dumb, expendable hordes of vicious savages for the heroes to look cool by slaughtering, or the black-and-white military conflicts that abound in the genre. I want to create something more inspired.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

    I always have.

    What Do You Write?
I haven't finished anything other than short practice passages, but I have, both mentally and in Word documents, ideas for a large setting.

The setting takes place on Primak, a parallel of Earth with over three times its diameter. Counterparts to all of its continents exist, along with new ones. Some parts of the world have a modern level of development. Others are more medieval. Overall, the setting is fantastic in nature, but there are pockets of it where no fantasy conventions are immediately apparent.

I try to subvert some of the genre's typical moral conventions. For example, dark magic kills less painfully than light magic, and the orcs are one of the very few sentient races that has any natural tendency towards goodness. The goddess of darkness and her followers are fairly honorable--expect towards intelligent species who aren't Homo sapiens. The god of fire and light is a violent warmonger who's incredibly racist even by the setting's standards. He built his own species of human because the one that already existed disgusted him.

    What compells you to write?
I write because of an idea. Why have a head bulging with plots and situations and complications and characters and never put them down on paper. It would be absolutely amazing to have a USB port in the side of your head, where you could print out all those thoughts onto paper, but as yet, nobody has invented such a thing. So we have to write!

    Why do you write?
I write because I love to. From an early age at school, I would get such a buzz, when the teacher would set a short story task that had to include certain elements. My mind would race and so would my pen across the virgin white paper. Watching the story grow from inception to a beginning, middle and end, and to contain these interesting characters was everything to me. Now, after years of writing stories, I take it a little more seriously, in terms of preparation, but the passion and fire to write, is still there, and while it is, I will write!

What makes you write what you write?
I don't think there is a certain element that makes me write. Ideas come to me every single day, and each one is different from the next. As a reader, I absolutely love crime thrillers but I dont write them. I might one day though.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I think It was back in Junior School. I was probably 8 years old. Instead of having the usual day of lessons, a team came in from the local newspaper to help get my year in to English. They set different tasks and it all stemmed from a fake news story about a train that had crashed. We was given the headline and the opening few lines but the rest of the article was then left to us to finish, including fake witnesses, locations etc I absolutely thrived off the task that was set and from then on English and in particular, creative writing, became my absolute favourite subject.

    What Do You Write

I have mainly tackled short stories, but at present I am in the middle of my début novel. I am taking my time with it and making sure I don't force it into a direction because I had that idea on that particular day.
I am also a keen musician and gig all over the UK, so I am always updating my set with original written material. I like to write the odd poem from time to time as well, when I'm feeling completely creative or when I have a handful of rhyming couplets that don't seem to fit with a song I have written.

    From the introduction forum:

I never wanted to be a creative author. I still do not. I do not like to write fiction and I do not like any of the fiction that I have ever forced myself to write. I am majoring in computer science in college and I plan to develop software for a living. Mathematics is my primary passion and I plan to spend my free time studying the subject and hopefully doing my own research.

However, there is a novel that I want to write. Right now, I care about seeing this novel to completion more than I have cared about any other project I have ever started. If I write it, then it will purely be a labor of love: a free-time project uploaded to the public domain with the sole goal that as many people read it and enjoy it as possible. After that, I just want to be done with creative writing. I never want to touch the commercial publishing industry if I can avoid it.

I recently read a novel that instantly became my all-time favorite fictional story. I like it for its themes and its character development. Ever since then, I have felt conflicted about the fact that it is my favorite story. It is a fanfic from a community that does not get much respect from the outside (though I certainly respect the community), and this book in particular is written sloppily. I have read plenty of classic literature, I readily admit that the classics are higher quality, and I want to enjoy the classics more than I enjoy fan fiction, but every time I try to get myself excited about any given classic, my mind just wanders back to the themes, characters, and mental images in my favorite story.

How much respect would you have for someone who says his favorite story is a My Little Pony fanfic by someone whose pen name is "short skirts and explosions"? More or less respect than for someone whose favorite story is Fifty Shades of Grey? Would you even give him a chance to explain why he likes it so much? Like any human being, I deeply value the conversations I have with people about fictional stories that are meaningful to us. It is important to me that I can talk to anyone about my favorite story and not have the conversation devolve into "but why ponies?"

So I thought: instead of wallowing in shame and wishing that the author would have developed the premise differently, why not write my own version of the story? Then I could tell people that my favorite story is a work of historical fiction set in ancient Athens (the setting I am considering), rather than a fanfic set in Ponyville. See the difference? More importantly, though, I want the ideas addressed by the book to reach a universal audience. I exist to serve humanity, and right now, I think this is one of the most effective ways that I can carry out that service. And by dedicating my story to the story that inspired me, I would do a service to the original author by increasing his exposure. (Readership is pretty much the exclusive currency of the fan fiction community.)

So that is why I write. I am on a mission to turn a My Little Pony fanfic into a work of quality literature. I have tried for the past two years to talk myself out of it, hoping that "ponefic" is just a passing phase in my life. I guess it is impossible to outgrow true passion. I am not even confident that I have the skill to improve upon what has already been written, but I have to try.

    What compels you to write?
I love to share my thoughts with the rest of the world, its something I inherit from my mom long time ago. She used to tell us self-made bedtime stories.

    Why do you write?
In my childhood neighborhood kids and children at school always teases me. You know, calling me names. To me, writing stories was the only ticket out to create a safe haven for myself. No one could touch me there.

What makes you write what you write?
Freedom. In my stories, I create my own world with words. There are no boundaries, only limited by my mind.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
Writing a story is a learning process, always. It's nice to know what people think about the stories I write, and I really love to share them with other people.

    What do you write?
    Well, I write horror/fantasy stories.

In the past, I wrote lessons for high-school students how to program in PHP and MySQL, which was pretty awesome because I could make up my own lessons when I was a freelance teacher. And it was also very rewarding to see my students going through the lessons and explaining things.

I hope that the original author is on board with you taking his story idea.

    What compels you to write?
The lack of creative ability in visual and musical arts lol.

    Why do you write?
I have a story to tell. whether I'm wrapping myself into a character or trying to see the world from another pov i always have a story to tell

What makes you write what you write?
There isn't enough nicotine in the world to hold back my emotional drive. i let some of it out through writing.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
honestly I don't like to write. i have always felt that the drive to tell stories was a curse i can't ever turn it off. I feel disconnected from family and friends because i can't control where my mind wants me to go.

    What Do You Write?
Sci Fi, fantasy, realistic fiction, crack gonzo journalist when the local college papers will take my work. mostly i prefer spoken word epics. have you ever heard of the hobo rebellion of the 1920s against the time traveling roman legions.

    What compels you to write?
I have no idea, I just write, I like making up stories and I like reading books I like to imagine alternative endings to books I don't think ended well.

    Why do you write?
I write because it gives me somewhere to go when life gets difficult. Some people read, some people to art. I write, it is my escapism.

What makes you write what you write?
A lot of things make me write my novels, but at the moment it is my passion for werewolf novels, I want to create a werewolf novel that is new and different compared to what is already out there

What made you decide you liked to write?
Again I have no idea, sometimes I wonder why I like writing, it is an extremely mind draining thing to do in my spare time, especially when I spend most of my time outside of work writing my novels, but I think it is the satisfaction of seeing a finished project, I experienced that back in March, after so many drafts my novel was finally finished, and now I am about to finish the second novel and I hope to finish the third novel by the end of the year, giving me satisfaction over finishing a trilogy.

    What do you write?
    YA Fantasy/Paranormal
I have three series projects planned to be written. As you all know I have The White Wolf Trilogy, a werewolf series. I also have a series called The Jewel of Elements, this one is based in medieval times and involves mages and all sorts of magical creatures, I will also be trying my hand at writing as a boy. My final series I haven't fleshed out all of my ideas yet since I only thought of this series a couple of months ago, but it will be called The Gates Trilogy, it will be based around Angels, Demons and some Demon hunters, the books will have two POV's when the main characters separate, which is also outside of my normal writing ways.

    "What compells you to write?"
Sometimes it feels like I have words stuck in my head. Or maybe that's the bipolar talking, I'm not sure which.

    "Why do you write?"
I want to tell stories that move people and have a lasting impact on them. I want to make an impression and make people see something in a different light, even if it's something small.

"What makes you write what you write?"
I'm obsessed with reading Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so that's what I like to write.

"What Made you decide you liked to write?"
My seventh grade English class. We had a small short story and poetry magazine that we ran from our classroom. I loved writing for it.

    "What Do You Write?"
Again, YA and NA fiction. Oh, and I usually have to have some kind of love story thrown in there. I'm a sucker for a good love story.

I am not compelled to write and therein lies my present difficulty. It would be a lot easier if my toes were held over burning coals on a daily basis to induce me to put fingertip to keyboard. But I think that's not what you are asking. Writing has been a long desired occupation for me. I've worked many jobs but I work best independently, managing my own time and resources. On top of that I'm a hopeless daydreamer, so writing has always felt like a natural fit for me.

I write because a part of me is an entertainer, but I lack any kind of talent for performing. I want people to be entertained by the contents of my imagination. I rather vainly consider that my imagination is the best I have to offer humanity. Certainly I suck at any other kind of contribution.

Anger, disillusionment, a feeling of injustice, a curiousity and grotesque kind of voyeurism about humans. I don't want to save any of my characters or offer them absolution. I want them to wallow in their inadequacies and struggle with their demons as I have done my entire life. If along the way they manage to create something of use in my fantasy world, then so be it. It's the sheer futility of existence that I find unfathomable and I therapise myself over and over by reliving that futility in many different tales.

I liked writing the first day I picked up a pen. I liked making squiggles on a page and then flowing a stream of consciousness out there. Mostly I like the clickety clack of keyboards and how productive I feel to see words forming under my furious effort. I talk to myself with a keyboard and it soothes me, and I become lost and engrossed in somewhere else for a time.

I write about the darkness inherent in the human soul. How our base desires and our greatest fears hijack our every action. Some people hold the opinion that altruism lies at the heart of every human. I hold the fear that darkness suffuses every soul and it's merely the risk involved in expressing ourselves authentically that causes random acts of kindness. Even an act of kindness can be an act of selfishness made to increase the social standing of the participant.

I was so curious by your conflicted post, and good idea of turning something like fanfic into something else by changing the context, i had to read a bit of it. I dont blame you, the first few paragraphs seem really interesting. About how music started and all the lost music there is. I like that idea already. I wish you the best of luck!

Writing to me is a way to set free all the thoughts that swirl around up there. Usually they come out more poetic then they seem. I hold a lot of beliefs, and ultimately want to help the world, and since these views of mine are usually cast aside in society, I like to let them out in writing. I want to reach an audience to get some critiques, but I know my work is very raw. I just do stream of consciousness most of the time and write short prose or poetry off the top of my head. I love the melody of writing and write a lot of lyrics too. I've been trying to write something solid for a long time now, but always just give up. Structure is something that is very hard for me. I want to learn more about writing fiction and setting up a story, because right now I just babble on (like this post). Anyways, with my writing I hope to unleash some interesting ideas, I'd like to write a satire on the world, I'd like to write about something post-apocalytpic, I have a couple of novel ideas, and I really hope I can learn enough about the real craft of writing rather then just nonsensically writing so I can really get started on a novel, or a collection of short stories. I hope I can learn some stuff here!

What compels you to write? I have to have at least one creative outlet and writing is my preferred method. I feel like I'm either about to burst or die of confinement if I don't get myself out of myself in some way.

Why do you write? I prefer the creative method of writing over other possible ways to feed that part of myself.

What makes you write what you write? I've always loved mystery, horror, sci fi, and fantasy. I also really enjoy when those genres explore characters in every day life and have the horror/sci fi/fantasy aspect be more of a background effect. This is how I think I write.

What Made you decide you liked to write? I've been writing since I was little. I remember being motivated when my 7th grade teacher said I had a lot of potential after reading something I wrote.

What Do You Write? I write about people in situations that are not occurring in our current world.

I write because I feel like I have stories to tell and questions to raise. Writing is the best available format to express myself even if I'm learning on the way.

Because I see interesting ideas play out in my head any time there's a moment of silence and writing is the only way to get it out so my brain doesn't explode.
