I forget which one it was, maybe Snickers or Milky Way, but there used to be a commercial that advertised the chocolate bar had a layer of "thick, creamy kyyaaraahmelll" in it....

    Edit: Sorry, "chewy kyaraahmell"

I'm guessing @Laurus probably speaks with a midwestern US accent, where it's more often pronounced something like "carmul".

    From Oxford dictionaries blog:

That would sound very peculiar to me.

I really hate the word 'meme'. It sounds annoying, and I hate that it has come be used to mean "stupid picture on the Internet".

This is how I feel about the word "drone". They are properly quadcopters, hexcopters, or octocopters, but if a general word needs to be used, they should be referred to as multirotors. Drone implies a certain degree of, not quite autonomy, but a capacity for following adapting to wind conditions etc to follow preset instructions. Some of the higher-end ones, like the DJIs, work this way, where you program in "fly to 90 meters, go west 300 meters, stay steady," but the little guys I fly require constant input to send and keep them where you want them.

    @Iain Aschendale
I hate most instances of word meanings changing. I think it annoys me not because the meanings are changing, but because they almost always change because people don’t understand them. And then when enough people are getting it wrong, it becomes right by default. The same goes with mispronounciations.

We were watching Bear Grylls: Celebrity Island, and most of the guys were proclaiming themselves to be "Alpha Males".

No, they weren't. They were just juvenile males, trying to become the alpha by shouting down anybody who disagreed with them.

The alpha male is the one that you listen to when he speaks. The alpha male doesn't need to shout.

I once saw that dude drink from elephant poop. That's somewhat less than capital survival advice.

I’ll respect him after the apocalypse when those survival skills are necessary. Right now, he just comes across desperate. “Look, look! I’ll drink piss if you put me on telly!”

Eyup, carmul is the preferred pronunciation. Can't speak for the region, but I can speak for me.

I forget if it came up in this thread before, but I just came across a character described as sassy and remembered my cringing repulsion towards the term. Eugh. Sassy.

In conversation, I occasionally refer to my MC as being 'preternaturally lucky', because he's sort of...pseudo-blessed by the gods to not stumble into too much bad. I'd never use that word in my book, though, unless that was the conversation at hand. I wouldn't use it to refer to inborn skill--which, having not read Anne Rice, I'm assuming she's using 'preternatural' to describe a vampire's ability? Because to me, that's definitely supernatural, and not preternatural. *shrug*

EDIT:: didn't realize that was on page 1 or 2 of 4. whoops.

Anyway, my least favorite word is probably...actually, I don't think I have any words I dislike. Almost any word in my vocabulary is valid, as long as it's being used right.

"Phat". I have no idea what it means, but it's rapper-speak.

I remembered 'snarky'. Not a bad word at all, but like 'feisty' and 'sassy' and the like, I see it used as a character descriptor overmuch, and honestly, I rarely find the characters in question particularly clever or funny at all.

This is super specific, but it irritates the living shit out of me when people refer t9 Daenerys Targaryen form GOT/ASOIAF as Khaleesi. That's a fucking title people! It literaly means 'queen' in Dothraki. Her name's Danaerys or Dany for short which is a lot easier to say btw.
I don't know why this of all things grates on my nerves so much but it does.

I would say that it's similar to saying "my lord" or "your majesty", rather than saying, "HEY QUEENIE!" But idk. Maybe the people you hear are actually calling her Queenie for some reason.

To clarify I'm talking about people in the fandom not people in universe. For the latter it might make sense in some cases to refer to her as Khaleesi as a sign of respect. But when fans use it the way they would use a given name it's just weird, I mean some fans have even named their kids Khaleesi after her. I mean c'mon!

I suppose I should have assumed that was what you meant; not sure why I didn't.
But yeah, naming your kids that is definitely calling them Queenie, and that, I agree with your sentiment on.

It's usually show only fans who do this, book readers tend to call her Dany since that's what she's called in her PoV chapters.

    P
retty, Hot And Tempting, but yeah, I don't much like it either.

Oohh, that's what it is? Don't watch the show, haven't read the books, but I from all the cross-chatter and memes, I thought there were two platinum blondes with a fetish for dragons and an aversion to shirts. :)
