word for tax paid by goods

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by qp83, Sep 5, 2020.

What's it called if for example a village or town has to contribute a certain amount of wares, grains, or produce each year to the kingdom? It's similar to a tax I guess but you're paying with goods instead of money.

    Tribute?

I know there's a better word for it, but it's not coming to mind just now.

It's technically a tax-in-kind, which I think is a more modern term. Here are some alternatives:

    fisc is a good one.
