Weirdly enough I was just having this discussion with a new friend the other day. He was on msn and I stated that because of him, and lack of inspiration, I'd only managed 300 words in the past two hours. And, looking back at them, they were'nt very good! But between the hours of 4pm and 6pm yesterday I powered through almost 4,000 words. I was at a good place. I'd been planning it in my head through work that morning, and by the time it came to write, it was already written in my brain. I guess my answer is I write as fast/slow as the ideas come.
I can do 50k words on a story that has me gripped in the action, in about two weeks. I've had days where I whipped out 10k words in one sitting. It all depends on the story. Generally, a sitting will yield about 5k words, unless it is a short story, then between 1k-3k words and have an edit in one day. There are days where I will write only one sentence the entire day. I was thinking of trying the Nanowrimo this year. I've been saying I'd do it for the last three, but when Nov rolls around the holiday stress starts getting to me, so I end up forgetting about it. This year I'm going to try it.
The longest I spend is about 3 hrs. But usually it's closer to the 1 hr mark on days that I write. Unfortunately, I only write 2 or 3 days a week.
Anywhere from 12-18 (sometimes more) hours a day on a variety of projects, depending on deadlines. I don't really worry about word counts until I get to the end of a project.
NaNo's what got me hooked in the first place. I always assumed I sincerely sucked at writing (and I still generally do) but I learned that I absolutely LOVED it, so thanks to NaNo for that (i won twice in one year... as in, i did one in nov. then decided i needed to do another in may... but this was back when i had the free time to do it - one of the few things i liked about china ) As for how much I write in a day? Not a thing right now... I need to force myself to push through so that I can get to the other side where it flows again~
For me it has a lot to do with mood. A few months ago I was burning out 2,000 words per night. Now that I am freaking out about possibly being laid off, I'm lucky if I can even write 400. It really stinks since writing was a way of lowering the stress I was feeling. Now it's stress level up, writing down.
not silly at all~ it's short for National Novel Writing Month. it's in november, and it's where a bunch of people try to write a whole book in one month.
Actually it's short for NaNoWriMo, which in turn is short for National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write 100,000 words in one month. The usual strategies is to blitz for word count over the course of the month, leaving any editing/revision until after the month ends. The submission for word count is typically performed with an encoded copy of the manuscript, so no one else has access to your original manuscript. I tried it for a while last year, but the blitz approach really doesn't suit me. I need to be able to go back and make changes and corrections as they occur to me, otherwise I can't keep my mind on the new writing.
I worked at a shoe store for a while and the manager there participated. She delighted in telling me about how her stories wouldn't go anywhere. She said she was writing one story from the perspective of a housecat... and so it ran out of things to do other than sit around and wait for people to come home... I can't think of a more inane plotline, but if I were in that situation I would have the cat escape and face all sorts of hardships, like having to learn to catch mice, and making new friends (and finding mean cats) and being chased by rapid German Shepherds.... hey this doesn't sound like a half bad idea!
I couldn't really say. I stopped coming around here for about two years, but I also started doing pen and paper roleplaying over IRC, so I wrote a lot there. I'm going to make it my goal to actually write something for NaNoWriMo this year, though.
in my writing for money years, when working on major projects, i'd been known to write non-stop for 18-20 hours a day, for a couple of weeks, or more... stopping only for pit stops and to eat, if someone brought me food... one memorable example was writing a complete 122-pg screenplay in 10 days, never having written one before then... now 70, and no longer in those physically prime 40s-50s, i probably still could and certainly would, if sufficiently impassioned over the work at hand... otherwise, if i have something of my own to write, i simply work on it till it's finished, or i feel like taking a break, or have to attend to requests for help from locals, or those who email me for same... and i do that every day of the week/year... i've never worked to any set schedule and never will...
This will have to be a prediction as i only just got into a regular sleeping pattern and now have time and inclination to write so i imagine: About four hours a day. I am going to get into a routine of waking up at around 9am (summer=freedom to lie in). I Will write from about 10 till 4 or so. I realise this is not four hours but im factoring in distractions such as just listening to music or talking with friends.
A writer wrote an article that insists that it shouldnt take too much a day to make deadlines. Twenty minutes a day or a page or so a day (every day) can turn into several novels a year. The trick is to do it EVERY day. Check out my blog 'if you are a writer, write' Im trying to practice what I preach now
I don't generally have a regular amount of writing. Sometimes I might days without writing anything, then in one day I might write thousands of words. I tend to write best at night or in the late afternoon, personally.
Sometimes I write the majority of the day, and at other times I can't seem to write a single word. Usually it's about 300-2000 per sitting. I know that's a wide range. At least it's progress! I'm trying to write some every day. I get to leave my job in 13 days (I'm counting down), which means I should have vastly more time than I do now for writing. I'm so excited!
It depends, like what skycloud said. Somtimes I write TONS, and somedays, I don't write very much. But the time I can focus the best on my writing is early in the morning while my family is asleep, or late at night...While my family is asleep. XD
The last time I was actually working on a novel I could only manage 1-3 hours each day (tending towards 1) writing without burning out or getting distracting, or 2-4 when just editing. Although for the last five months it would be safe to round those figures to ... zero ... >_> On the upside, over the last week I've spent at least 2-3 hours a day working on short stories really, really slowly! [/So out of practise. ]
I usually write for three hours or so. But when I'm too busy or don't have the time to write, for some reason, I write about 900 words per day.
TO be honest, i write only for one hour. I dont know much about how much i write. But it is good thing and interesting for me. Writing gives me a lot of confidence and morality.
I write until I get a word count of 600 to 1000. There have been days that I've managed to write even 12000 words. I can get a word count of 50000 in about a month if I have the story in my head.
