Nope, I don't write every day. I write when I feel like it. I already have a full-time job that I have to do whether I want to or not, and I'm damned if I'm going to turn my hobby into another one of those.
I do a 1000 words a day. I take off days when I get extra in. Over the last ten days, I put in . . . 11,100 words. So I could take a day off if I wanted. I think I'm going to rack up a lot first though. I'm aiming for 365k per year. I know I'm not fast compared to some, but I'm working on that. I've been dictating early drafts too. I don't want to call those first drafts because they're not worthy of the title. They do speed up the real first draft when it falls on paper. Once I'm used to them, I think they might let me drastically improve. Then I revise about 5k each day. Then I read about 10k. Then I study. And with the rest of the time, I daydream. What's holding me back are distractions. I've got to get my priorities in order . . .
I don't write every day. I used to, but as my day job got more demanding, I stopped worrying about it. But when I have chunks of time off and play "full time author" I write almost every day. Six days a week, probably? I mean, if it's my job, I should do it pretty much every day, right? When it's just my hobby I'm much more relaxed about it.
Possibly an equally important question for those of you who do write every day: how often is it that you look over the previous day's work and say 'ugh' before deleting it?
Almost never. Doesn't mean it's perfect - just that I'll leave it as it is until I get around to edit or the part doesn't fit the story anymore.
I don't delete stuff anymore, but I definitely do file it deep away where I never have to look at it or think about it again sometimes >.>
Never. Ever. Ever. I may move it to the scrap heap, but I don't delete. And I fairly frequently take scraps back out of the scrap heap.
How long do you spend time writing a day? Do you do it in the morning, or the evening? And do you revise your work every time you write? What is your writing habit?
We- I mean, I try to think about writing everyday. I consider different stories and ideas all the time. I try to keep my mind in creative mode, but I don't HAVE to write everyday.
I could never write every day. They tend to get too chaotic and I juggle two separate RPG groups weekly. I find it better for my life to write when I find the time available to me. I don't write as much as some people, but I also write shorter novels so it's not too bad for my pacing.
I write every day using a pen and paper. I try to do it first thing in the morning. If it's too cold, or if I'm too sleepy, I'd take a shower first and grab a cup of coffee, then write. I love it. I'd write even if it's just plain rubbish.
I try to do it first thing in the morning when it's not too cold, or when I'm not too sleepy. Otherwise, I take a shower first, grab a cup of coffee, then write. I write using a nice pen and paper cause I have a hard time getting my flow right when typing. I need more time to process my thoughts in English since English isn't my first language. I used to revise my work every time I finished a scene or a chapter, but doing that for a year or so, I hadn't finished anything. So had to change my approach since then, and now I'm almost finished with my first draft and will start revising/editing once it's finished. It feels great. Better. A quirky habit of mine, I guess is, that I write on any paper I could find. Be it a receipt from the convenience store, scratch paper, or at the back of my wife's used test papers.
Sound interesting. Are you releasing your book? If so, let me have a first read! I have also finished my book and have got it published on amazon haha!! If you are interested, feel free to find it in my profile.
For fiction, every day, because I usually begin by editing what I did the day before, so the new stuff will flow into what I did before. Being dyslexic, doing the first pass of edits in small bites is more efficient than waiting and having giant walls of text to wade through. Deleting an entire day's work? Never happens (intentionally), because when it's that hideous, I usually know it and put the brakes on pretty quick and get rid of it. If I can't tell, I call up my Alpha and run something by. Moderately bad or just "eh" stays a bit longer.
Never to my knowledge, but that doesn't mean that the bulk of it will stay for the long run. I did say something about being a compulsive editor when I'm not writing further?
I usually give myself page quotas instead of time limits. I tell myself to write at least three pages a day, if I can write more that's great, but if not, then I at least got something done that day. I always feel my most creative early in the morning, but unfortunately, I work in the morning so I can't write then. So during the week I find myself writing at night, and on weekends I start in the late morning/early afternoon. As far as editing goes, I do the standard first draft edit, second draft edit, third draft edit, and so on till something in my brain clicks telling me I'm done. But how about where you write? To me it's such an important factor that people overlook. I always like writing by windows, something about them puts me in a creative mode.
I'm hit-or-miss. Sometimes I write every day and other times I go months without writing in my solo works. I write my roleplays nearly every day, depending on when my partner-in-crime replies. I'm trying to get into the habit of writing every day, but it doesn't always happen because sometimes my mood isn't cooperative.
I write when I feel it. Typically I'll write daily for a few months until I finish a manuscript, then have a break while it's being read. I work full time so most writing gets done at the weekends.
