Hey all. I've lurked here for quite awhile, and I finally decided to sign up. I'd love to write more of myself (well, that's a lie--I hate writing about myself) but I'm sure that'll all come up between the lines from post to post. Looking forward to posting with all of you. Now it's time to explore a bit more.
Sure, I’m a poet and a want to be novelist. My favourite threads are the lounge, great for interacting with the community. General writing, for all those curious questions, The RPG section, the selection for role play is huge, and the reviewing section, very helpful. By the way, hello and welcome to WF.
Hello Ehdom, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Writing inside the lines may be boring, but for most writing, you want the reader to be focused on the story, and not be distracted by a quirky writing style. Ideally, you want the reader to be lost in what you are saying, and be barely aware of how you are saying it. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
I know the feeling! I, too, hate writing about myself. But it gets easier after you've been here a while and made some new friends. Welcome to the board! --Jewels--
