There is also the fact that my most well-received character so far has been the bloodthirsty serial killer protagonist of Gemini, so clearly I didn't have to be a serial killer myself to effectively write a serial killer. It's just that I had more of an up-hill battle to get the research right than an actual serial killer would've.
I think Masters and Johnson proved that serial killerality isn't a binary thing, but more of a sliding scale. Perhaps you should try it sometime, you might surprise yourself
Yup: homogenous, everything is blended into a single blur (Catalina dressing) heterogenous, the components are still distinct enough to tell apart (Italian dressing)
But not every gay is a little body. *was going to link a pic of gay bears but all the cute ones are NSFW, so... imagination.*
Hey he's a rainbow bear who hangs out with an effeminate hippo called george - you aren't telling me he's straight
Yes, most vivid indeed. Just not a big fan of body hair in excess. As for little bodies, I can't help it if I am short and about 130-135 skinny guy. Being 5ft 8 sucks, but has its advantages.
I'm six four with the ripped physique of a young greek god.... of course these days its hidden under about 50kg of wobbling fat
Pfft. I'm 5' 5". I don't want hear about your shortness. Not skinny, though. Been living in the gym since the 90's. In the community I'm called a muscle bear. There are muscle bears, and polar bears, and regular bears. There are otters and wolves, too. It's like a gay wild kingdom. Also - and I can't believe I forgot this because I have a yuge collection - the masters of bear art are, of course, the Japanese. Bara manga is a very popular medium in the bear community. It is not to be confused with yaoi. Don't call it yaoi. It's not yaoi. Not.
Please tell there aren't any moose Also on Manga I've always found the whole concept a bit disturbing (gay or straight)
Mmmm.... Different varieties of bear, wolves, and otters. That's about it. If you're a young bear, you're a cub. If you're a young wolf, you're a pup or an otter. Like anything, it all depends on who you're reading. I don't go in for tentacles or other extreme stuff. I'm pretty vanilla in that respect, and there's plenty vanilla stories to be found.
This is probably because the only one I've seen was rin tin tin - bestiality doesn't really do it for me (okay its not actually bestiality because they are all dogs, but still i'm not really up for detailed descriptions of dogs having sex as general reading matter)
Ok, I know you're kidding, but just in case anyone takes you literally as they read this thread, these are just words we use to refer to ourselves. There's no pooch poking going on. A couple of furry fellahs' flaunting their love of bara manga. The artwork on the shirts is by Jiraiya. Very popular.
No, seriously dude the only Manga I've seen was called rin tin tin and was about a dog who has a female (dog) mistress with whom he talks and with whom he has graphically illustrated sex... as I say disturbing (a mate brought it back from Japan and left it on my coffee table for a laugh though my girlfreind at the time didn't find it funny) I know this has nothing to do with your community btw after all its hetero (albeit with dogs), I'm just saying that this is why I find the concept of manga disturbing
I'm loving all of the bear talk in this thread This probably won't be a very popular viewpoint, especially as I'm a gay man myself, but I think a little stereotyping is fine. For me, it's no different from having the stereotypical jock or high school cheerleader in a piece of fiction. I know plenty of guys that do fit the gay stereotype pretty well, but equally I know a lot that don't. If you have a story with 5 gay guys in and they're all the stereotypical effeminate type then I'd be asking questions, but for 1 or two of them to be fairly stereotypical? I don't see that as a problem. That being said if the character is important to your story I'd say stay away from most stereotypes for all of your characters, gay or straight. On the makeup thing, as others have said cross-dressing and wearing makeup isn't as closely related to homosexuality as a lot of people think it is, so I'd tread carefully wit that one. But if it's important to the character, why not?
There is a difference between being gay, and being a Sissy. Though I have read a book by an American Pro Domina that likes to dominate Sissy Men.
And even a sissy has his charms. Lafayette Reynolds from True Blood was a terrific character and - at least to me - a powerfully attractive man. He was a sissy, but he was a don't-give-a-fuck sissy. He was supremely self-possessed and comfortable in his own skin. That's attractive.
