There was no temper at all. All I was saying was, hold your opinion, you're entitled to it. I have no intention of getting you to change it. It doesn't matter to me if you believe the new owner is incompetent. Maybe he is, I couldn't say, but I'm not about to jump to that conclusion. Those kinds of accusation are cheap in forums. Cheers, Rob
I'm not sure what you mean by stale. I use a fair number of forums, and I think it had a lot going for it. Cheers, Rob
No disrespect to WF.org but I have to say that WF.org is a lot staler than WF.com. I’ve been here a few times before I decided to sign up. The majority of the boards on here have posts from 5+ hours ago. WF.com is a busy forum. There are always new posts. Some have repetitive questions but the answers are always different and very informative.
I think both writersbeat and wf.org have a long way to go to catch up with what wf.com was before it went silent, but that's not meant in a negative way. Both are younger sites than wf.com and have yet to achieve the site maturity that wf.com did and the relatively stable core membership and strength of membership that went with it. (I use maturity there in relation to the site, not the members, there's no slur intended). It takes time to achieve that. I think writersbeat and wf.org both have keen staff who work hard to achieve it, and they may indeed do so, but they haven't done yet. Good luck to both sites, and I hope wf.com comes back too, though after this it may find it's been badly hurt. I'm always in favour of people belonging to multiple sites, and think that anyone who doesn't belong to more than one should seriously consider it. Cheers, Rob
This site is still less than a thousand people an extreamly small community compared to WF.com. If WF.com is really gone it will end up helping other forums like this one. But it will take a bit for the culture to catch up.
Not necessarily. Writingforums.org is just fairly young. And has grown at such a rapid rate in the past few months. It certainly wont take long before we reach the 1000 mark here. ~Raven.
This is true, all sites take time to mature and to add a member base. WF.com being down though is really hurting itself A LOT. Especially with google updating it's index RIGHT NOW, they're going to think "what happened to wf.com" and drop their index. Thanks for all the compliments on Writer's Beat. I appreciate it. Hopefully we keep on growing and chugging a long. And I agree on the traffic, it's better to be a shared member base than to have competition and limit each communities traffic. Why not just share the traffic of writing?
I did drop in a cheap assertion so your cheap rebuttal was deserved. Here's my basis: A competent host will be ready and able to keep down time under 24 hours. If the site was pulled without notice to members, that's a self-serving action. If the owner is preoccupied elsewhere, both incompetence and self-service come into play, depending on the circumstances. That covers the vast majority of reasons. The sudden death of the new owner is a exception. There are few others. Other than that, the tone of my assertion was intentional, and I am still irritated. Cheers! MD
If the site comes back up, I can live without knowing, but the longer it goes on the less likely I think it is that we'll see it come back. In which case, many will have moved on, and some at least will probably find their way to the new site if it gets created. Cheers, Rob
Yes, you are probably right. If it was gone forever, then www.writersbeat.com and www.writingforums.org would get all the members. I say the former has a chance for the stardom seeing the coordination implemented there, but this site is surprisingly improving as well.
Too late, you already mooned it! Anyway, no need to add adhesive to minor irritations... There is no rational reason to buy that site then shut it down, so there is every reason to expect it to pop back up, eventually. Until then, there are more important things to do. Best, MD
Hmm, it seems the popular theory around here is that everyone from writingforums.com will be pretty much splitting between www.writersbeat.com and www.writingforums.org It'll be interesting to see what happens if WF.com suddenly reappears.
off topic: I like you sig. The way I heard it: Question: "What's the difference between involvement and commitment?" Answer: "With a bacon and eggs breakfast; the chicken is involved, the pig is committed."
off topic: Haha! Question: "What's the difference between involvement and commitment?" Answer: "With a pregnancy; the man is involved, the woman is committed."
lol! So, what site do you really think is better? Writer's Beat or Writing Forums? I've just joined WB and I really like it's layout a lot. There seem to be many interesting people and there aren't too many unanswered fiction threads (that's what I look at when I join a writing forum). WF is also good, but I get intimidated by the size of the place. WB seems cosier, if you get what I mean.
Yes. Although I have to disagree there with you. writersbeat.com has more members, and a publication! Are you a WF.com refugee also? EDIT: Thanks for the staff of this site for having us. You're really amazing and I don't think I'm leaving.
Thats good to hear. Its nice of you all to drop in. I hope you stick around post your stories poems songs etc. ~Raven.
