Hello everyone! My name, for starters, is Zach Elam...or as my username states xXTwistedVIxX. Now, why have I chose that particular username? Well, for one, the name as a whole is my voice acting name, (if you wish to know what voice acting is, just ask!) and secondly, VI which is a Roman Numeral for the number six is used because it's modeled after my favorite singers Nikki Sixx from Sixx A.M. and Andy "Six" Biersack from Black Veil Brides. So there is a little information for you. Now, about me? I am as amateur as the day is long with my writing, it leaves a lot to be desired, especially writing stories. I suppose I lack the attention span to sit down and write a novel, or even a novella for that matter...perhaps it's because I'm only fourteen? Well, that can't be right, I'm sure there are MANY fourteen year olds who are fantastic writers. Anyway, it seems I fair better writing scripts. Don't misunderstand me though, I do NOT come here looking to simply...show off my work, I have come here to get better and improve on my writing. I have a very specific style of script writing I do, it runs the same format (outline wise) in ever script, no matter how different the show, game, or play is. I will write anything. Absolutely anything, without consequence. Now, there is both an upside and a downside to this; For instance, I could easily offend someone if I were to write about religion EVEN IF I WERE NOT ATTACKING A RELIGION, so there is a downside. The upside however, is that it gives me the freedom to explore all different styles of writing and put my head in the place of others who write the same things. One day, I can be writing a kid's movie for Disney, and the next day, I'll be writing the next Saw or Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and virtually everything in between. I'd like to think I'm a very diverse individual when it comes to writing, for writing is my art and my passion, of course my voice acting is too and they sort of walk hand-in-hand. Now, more about my personality rather than my writing style...I am fourteen. I am a silly, nerdy individual who is not afraid to "go there" and I love being outgoing. I have a way with words in my everyday life, I have a God complex that in reality is just a front for my soft interior (in other words, I wear my heart on my sleeve but try not to show it), I'm a hopeless romantic (I will not go into that right now), I have a hundred and one different ideas in my head that will probably never come to fruition simply because, well, most of the time I can't keep track of them and for another thing, my projects are BIG and no one seems to want to take the jump with me and put in the work, I can't do everything myself, you know. I love to make friends, and I'm generally a nice person; I respect all people until they give me a reason not to respect them. I am a Catholic and a Republican, although I was simply born in to being a Republican and as of right now don't have an opinion either way, I suppose it's just easier to say "I am a Republican," and as far as religion goes, I am a practicing Catholic, but I PROMISE I will not shove my beliefs down anyone's throat, that is not my place nor my business. I am a fair student in everything but Algebra, I am terrible at it. I have all A's other than Math in classes like Chorus, Theater History, French, and English, so I like to think I'm well educated. I have a major issue with people who full-knowingly use improper grammar or completely disregard spelling or punctuation. I am, as my friend Missy calls me, a "grammar Nazi." Full-knowing grammatical, spelling, and punctuation mistakes are a huge pet-peeve of mine. I can understand making a mistake here and there without realizing, but people who actually try to write stories and such with terrible writing is just...well, to be frank, it disgusts me. I love music, and it is my passion. I RESPECT ALL KINDS OF MUSIC and listen to all kinds. You will never hear me say "I like all music...except rap...oh! And Country...Country sucks." I grew up on Country, and Country turned into Blues, which turned into Rock, which turned into Punk, which split in two and turned to Rap and Metal, Metal turned to Screamo, and for some unexplainable reason, Screamo turned into my deep love for String Quartets. This could possibly stem from the fact that I heard a string quartet cover Panic! At The Disco's best album (in my opinion) "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" and from then on I have loved orchestra music, ESPECIALLY the violin. I am actually going to start learning how to play. And finally, the last little bit of information about myself...I am well versed in the ways of forums. Everything from forum etiquette to how to RUN a forum, as I was one of four administrators at a Kingdom Hearts forum known as Kingdom Hearts Media. I started there right in the middle of a war between Media and another website called Kingdom Hearts Insider. Insider was upset with Media because THEY THOUGHT that Media was trying to 1-UP them and steal all their members, when in reality, Insider was going under and becoming very low-class due to who they had in charge of the website, so their members who were fed up with being treated like dirt came to us. So I, being the only TRULY ACTIVE administrator, had to calm a lot of people and settle many public humiliation attacks...fun stuff, no? Well, that's all about me I can think of...if you wanna know more, please feel free to ask!
Blimey. That's the most in depth intro I have ever read. Welcome to the forum. Please have a look through the Forum Rules, and the FAQ as a start. Then take a leisurely stroll through the different areas of the forum to get your bearings. Once you have a good idea where everything is, come and say hello in the Lounge or have a look at the items already up for review in the Review section. Please remember that as a full participation workshop. You are required to give two (2) constructive reviews of posted items prior to posting your own work. Thereafter, two reviews for every post of your own work is the expected standard. Remember that two is only a minimum. Now, why do we have this requirement? Because we have a very different philosophy here than you will find in most other forums. We are not a refrigerator door to pin up work with a colorful magnet for all the world to see. Our forum is not about getting reviewed. It’s about giving reviews and in the process of actually giving the review, improving your own writing. Unfortunately, we do not host Flame Wars nor Pie Fights. We at writingforums.org feel that there are enough places on the net already catering to those needs. Have fun!
I would hope there would be no Flame Wars or Pie Fights, and I must say, I take a great deal of comfort in your philosophy. So, I thank you for the welcome and I cannot wait to become and active member.
Well, I hope you know it wasn't my aim to offend you if I did. Just thought I would throw that out there.
*Reads the sentence again* Oh, that happened :O wow never knew..I've only become a KH fan again since 2010..soo. It's okay, it didn't offend me.
Hello Zach, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
