Hello, My name is Emma. I'm Swedish but I have lived in the UK for the last four years. I fell in love with this British girl and just had to marry her and live with her so yeah - Britain became my new home. We just moved from London out to the coast. I'm a librarian and a (quite) prolific reader. I have always been writing in some form but it was only two years ago that I finished my first full-sized novel. Since then I have written another one (which I am now editing) and started a third. As I am sure many of you will recognize, I was starting to feel a little bit locked up in my own mind and writing. So I wondered how to get someone elses perspective on my writing (friends and family are always just sweetly kind so not very objective, and I don't want to force my writing on them anyway). I read a lot of articles online talking about the importance of having the views of your peers. (Maybe even having a small group of writers with the same style who would critique each others work.) So, I needed to find other writers and after a quick question to Mr Google - here I am. Hello!
Welcome to the forums, You can always partake in writing groups in you're area if there are any. If it's more than just amateurs or at the very least well organized, odds are you'd get some very good results there. If you're like me, and there's nothing around, you can find loads of great people here who know a thing or too.
Emma! Welcome. Happy to hear the story about you and your wife. I moved to Puerto Rico almost 8 years ago and met my hubby just a few months after arriving. We've been together ever since. Here's the New Member Quick Start. Some good info in there concerning the forum and our way of doing things. Wrey
Thank you for the welcome, A.M.P. Good tip! I'm not sure what's around here and if I would be comfortable with that though. I'll keep my eyes open but for now this forum seems like a good place to start!
Yeah, I personally wouldn't be able to read or share with a group face to face. Hard enough to talk to it with my husband and letting him read, nevermind a complete stranger. The internet is nice for this sort of situation :3
Hello Wrey! Thank you! I'm glad to hear you and the hubby are still as happy eight years later. Way to go! I think I did read that before and I am now worrying I might have broken a few rules of conduct already. I will go and have another look.
A.M.P - my feelings exactly! And to be honest, I would probably feel more secure with readers that I know like the fantasy/sci-fi genre and aren't just lumped together with me due to where we live. (If that makes sense?)
Welcome! Sci-fi/Fantasy person here! and I'm kind of new also and I can say that the forum is very friendly and people will make helpful comments if you decide to post some of your stories
Yeah, I have a feeling that I ended up in the right place here! Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.
Welcome to the forums. This has always been a good place for peer review, so I think you'll find what you're looking for.
Thank you! I'm sure I will. Mostly it will be good to talk to other people who might be struggling with the same issues as me.
