Both are great songs although my fave Bush song is "A Tendency to Start Fires" even though I've never really checked out the lyrics. The riffs are just cool. Do you mean the song or the whole album? I think "The Grudge" is one of Tool's best (and has Maynard's best scream in it too, maybe the longest as well).
I meant the song but I would use all their songs if it were possible. Maynard's poetry inspires me a lot. "The Grudge" is one of their songs I constantly listen to, to keep myself in the right frame of mind. Otherwise I'll hold onto my negativity and won't move on.
My novels are pretty different when it comes to action, scenery and such to each specific PoV character. But...Florence + The Machine is great and can probably fit every character She's awesuuuume or or ^^ only song from any anime I can proudly say I love. I hate anime and anything related, except for this masterpiece!
The Unforgiven by Metallica One of the songs that has really inspired me. I've started to think about a story where the zombies meet the westerns, six-shooters and gunslingers. This could be the song to be played in the credits.
Really hard to pick a single theme song, but here are a few that I think go well with the story I'm currently working on:
I don't think my first novel would work well as a movie, and I can't really think of a good song to sum it up. I could, however, envision Dave Matthews Band's "#41" playing over the credits, though not because of any thematic relevance. The music just seems to fit the mood of the ending. My second novel, however, is all about music, and thus would have a very full soundtrack. Styx's "The Best of Times" is an important song, but I doubt it would be played over the credits since it features in the story. I suppose Derek & the Dominoes' "Layla" would have to be it, since that's the name of my main character (and she's named for the song in the story), though again, the lyrics are irrelevant. For my third, the dream would be to have a score fully composed by Mark Knopfler (we can dream...). Otherwise, I think June Divided's "Drive" sounds fitting, if a little melodramatic--plus it's got the added bonus of giving exposure to a fantastic local band: My current project was inspired by Rush's "The Way the Wind Blows," even stealing its title (though it's since been changed). The song still captures the main theme of the story (trees that grow in a distorted fashion due to environmental conditions--wind--forcing them to do so). So I'd still pick that one as the theme song.
Oh I think Judy Garland singing Somewhere over the Rainbow is much the way of my novel+. Or if you must believe that it has to be heavier and grittier then here you go:
Good thread to resurrect, Cavey! My first novel's holding title was Jar of Hearts because of this: Current novel? Might have to be...
For the trilogy, John Denver--Take Me Home Country Road But I've got one character that make me think, of Jonny Cash, The Highwayman and another that screams Rocky Mt. High, John Denver, again.
If I were to pick a single song for a main theme song, it would probably be "Once I Was Real" , by Brad Caleb Kane. Someone used it to make a OUAT AMV.
For most things I write, I like to have a song that I keep in mind. For my current project, I'd say this is the theme song:
I'm in the beginning stage of writing what might be a novella or longer. But, this song definitely fits the bill for one of the driving themes.
This thread is my life - I seriously have a whole soundtrack for my novel, and usually slip into the shoes of my MC if it ever comes up on my ipod on shuffle. Every line of this song defines my story, considering my MC is imprisoned basically, but fighting against the system to try to reveal the horrors behind her environment - she's in a constant fight with the antagonist (which is totally shown through this song as it goes back and forth lyrically.) The chorus says "you're dying, dying... living proof that the camera is lying." -> Literally stating my MC's situation "Don't look up, just let them think there's no place else you'd rather be" -> My MC trying to stay calm in her environment to calculate her plan "Open wide, this is your night, so smile, because you'll go down in style" -> Representing my MC's impulsive, sarcastic behavior as she faces danger "Yeah, yeah, you're asking for it, with every breath that you breathe in, just breathe it in" -> Antagonist speaking to MC, baiting her to challenge the system "Yeah, yeah well you're just a mess, you do all this big talking, so let's see you walk it, let's see you walk it." -> My MC's response to the antagonist. Yeah - this song is my book, every lyric is relevant. Ha. My antagonist's literal feelings towards my MC --> My antagonist's theme song --> My overall aesthetic theme to my novel - lyrics basically explain the story (this is one of my favorites) --> One of my MC's theme songs - It represents her need to rise up and fight--> Hope you guys enjoy! I have so many more, but I'll leave it at this.
I adore Breath of Life -> It reminds me a lot of my antagonist in my novel actually, plus the music is just fantastic.
